Right this deal was mentioned in this thread (http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/477526/sony-bravia-40-kdl-40s5500-hd-ready) So thanks to crofter for mentioning it and the guy at AV forums.

This deals involves having a Richer Sounds store and a John Lewis store close by so you can price match. And an old telly.

John Lewis & Richer Sounds links to the TV:
johnlewis.com/230…spx
richersounds.com/pro…500

Right I first went into Richer Sounds(Norwich Branch) and checked if they had the 40S5500 in stock and they did marked up at £549.95(Which is the same price on their website) I then went to John Lewis(Norwich Branch) and checked if they had the TV in store and they did, it was marked up at £699 (£100 difference from the online price which is £799) So I then asked John Lewis to price match the TV with Richer Sounds, they had to send out their own people to check that the price is correct if the price was they would give me a call. 1 day later I recieve the call and they can confirm that they will price match it.

So I ordered the telly over the phone with my visa card and I've got it for £449 (This includes the scrappage bonus which is £100 off for an old telly) also includes John Lewis's 5 Year guarantee

Isn't this a John Lewis deal and not a RicherSounds deal? Or will RS match the £449?

Thanks for pointing that out  it's a John Lewis deal as their matching Richersounds

So you actually got it for the Matched £549 Not £449?

I too took this offer up a couple of days ago but am still waiting for the call from the Norwich branch-they said they would send someone out within 7 working days to price match it and I currently have one reserved-fingers crossed but im not holding my breath although it might be worth ringing a London store aswell just to keep covered

I am confused!

looks a good deal, if u can exchange ur last old tv

Do RS not do the scrappage scheme?

If you read my first post I stated that I got it for £449 WITH Sony's scrappage bonus (I.E trade in an old telly and they'll give you £100 off)

I went to the store on Thursday and they gave me a call back on Friday.

Right let me try to unconfuse you.

I'll lay it out as steps.

1) Check if you have a Richer Sounds store and a John Lewis store close by (so they can price match)

2) Go into the Richer Sounds store to check if they have the TV in stock

3) Then go into the John Lewis store and check if they have it in stock, if they do tell them that the same TV is in Richer Sounds for £549 and ask them to price match. They will then give you a "CUS" number I think it is and phone you back within 7 working days (As they have to send their own people out to check the price in Richer Sounds)

Hope you understand now

I didn't ask as John Lewis offer the 5 year guarantee free with their tellys.

I might bog my arm in with the ancient 15" CRT sitting in the garage.

Thanks for clarifying Duby - Useful deal!

Do you know how local the store has to be nearest I can find is at least 10 miles apart.

Cold...for so many reasons.

Not sure mate. You could find your local store here johnlewis.com/Sho…spx and on the website they provide a telephone number for that store so just give them a call and ask

Will they accept a 14" portable TV as part of the scrappage scheme?

worth knowing that any John Lewis will price match any other john lewis store - so if norwich are selling it for £559 - either buy it from Norwich over the phone (ie, from the shop not the internet) and get them to deliver it to you for free - or get your local John Lewis to Price match the far away John Lewis. I did this a while back & got Peter Jones to deliver a Panny to me in Manchester by getting them to Price Match Glasgow John Lewis which had lowered its price due to a local competitor......

I've been told the same so Duby must have been lucky to get a diligent staff member on the case right away ;-)

The rest of us mere mortals just have to wait with everything crossed.

The assistant in the store said they accept any TV it doesn't even have to work.

why do they have to have someone go out to check the price? have they not heard of the great invention that is the telephone??

good deal if you can get it!

Not sure maybe it's just their store policy.

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to get the same price. John Lewis is in the Sony scrappage scheme and JL will price match Richer Sounds as it's a store (Built with bricks and cement)

This seems awfully difficult to do for something that JL may simply say in a week "No".

I telephoned richer sounds and john lewis as I don't live near two stores. The best in-store price Richer sounds quoted was £599.99 not the £549.99 as quoted on their website so John Lewis would only match to £599.99. I also checkd this with the Richer Sounds Norwich store and they also quoted that the price in store was £599.99 but on the website £549.99. Any ideas anyone? :?

Well when I went in Richer Sounds on Thursday it was the same as the website price.

The person you talked to must need to be trained again. Because it's an instore price

No they won't match dixons as it has to be a bricks and mortar store. No online prices and web based sites only. When I phoned them they we very sure about that criteria! They have to be able to check the price on the shelf label in the store.

Unfortunately not as Dixons is now an online retailer.

Also the scrappage scheme will not apply to Dixons as they are only online.

I'm currently waiting for JL in Norwich to get back to me, but can confirm that RS in Norwich do have the TV in stock at £549.99. As the previous post said, they tend to have higher prices advertised in store - you need to mention that 'you saw it on the web', but £549.99 is an in store price.

I phoned again to check and they still told me that the shelf price was £599.99 but they would match the price on the internet of £549.99, however the staff at John Lewis said they would need to go into the richer sounds store and check the shelf label price (£599.99) to provide a price match and not the one I could agree verbally.

Even so, still a hot deal so thanks!

Do Richer Sounds not do the Sony TV scrappage scheme? Surely if a local Richer Sounds has the tv in stock then its better just to opt for them rather than the JL hassle of sending someone to check (would like to work for JL sounds like a great job, a while out of the store, quick coffee or sandwich at Subway on route to confirm a price match)

Regarding the Trade-in old TV scheme that Sony are doing - does anyone know whether or not it has to be a working television?

This is because my friend has an old TV in his garage due to go to an electrician's to try and fix it (turns on then while warming up suddenly turns off). I tried to refer to the terms and conditions and it doesn't state whether or not the old TV is required to be working.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if Richer Sounds does the sony scrappage scheme best bet is to give them a call.

JL offer a free 5 year guarantee with their tellys thats why it's a better choice. But if you don't care about that and Richer Sounds does do the scrappage scheme then by all means do so

Thank you very much for the information - I will definitely take this opportunity then.

Update:
Just called my local Richer Sounds to confirm stock and subsequently called John Lewis to leave my details - the nice lady on the phone also reserved one under my name "Just in case John Lewis runs out of stock."

Fantastic!

At last I think I managed to convince both retailers so fingers crossed I have a deal on the way to me at £449.99!!! Thanks

This is perfect timing - I am looking for a new TV for the lounge!

So far I have called RS and been told they have the TV in stock at my local store and it is on the shelf for £599.95 and not £549.95 :-(

I have called JL and asked for a price match and they should have done this by wednesday - so all going to plan I will be buying a new Sony TV with a 5yr guarantee from JL for £499.95 - which is not as good as the original post - but I am still very happy.

Thanks

amazing if this works!

John lewis used to match any uk shop so it wouldn't matter how far away it was, though it seems that they have changed their policy to within 8 miles of the store now. Full details on policy here johnlewis.com/jl_…pdf
