Voted Warm as the price is okish but I think 40" is still pushing the capabilities of LCD a bit.Would advise anyone looking at a screen size from 37" upwards to go Plasma

I nearly bought this one until some one on quidco (?) pointed out that the PC support on this LCD is :
XGA max 1024X768
WXGA max 1360X768

which is completely daft as a design point since the LCD is already at 1080p resolution. This is a case of commercial marketing that has overruled the clever technical designer as the circuit is already capable of supporting a much higher resolution for connection to a PC .

However this model appear to be the ONLY option if the colour (colour of the case is grey trim) that you want is not black or black or black (when you go to browse nearly all models are : "any colour you like as long as it is black". Piano black and stainless steel ARE THE WORST ever colours to have on this planet to keep clean. Piano black needs constant dusting and cleaning to keep it that way as indeed stainless steel. Therefore the big plus on the Sony is the grey trim which is the same colour as dust and finger prints which with less dusting leaves you more time to enjoy the movies.

If you intend to connect your PC with graphics card with higher resolution than the above go for the SONY KDL40W3000 which I think at the moment sells for about £1200 or the Samsung LE40M87BDX which is about £750 - £800.

I bought this LCD about 4 months ago at a cost of nearly £1200 which was a good price at the time so I am gutted to see it going at this price. In my opinion this is a great TV, superb picture and sound quality. I have watched movies through my laptop on the screen and the screen resolution is also really good and almost DVD quality to me. I am not a technical expert but am a serious movie enthusiast and to me the PC input picture is perfectly fine.

Oh no, he might have to dust once a week. Damn how unfortunate. I have a black TV and its always spotless.

I already have this TV, it's great. WhatHiFi Sound & Vision TV of the year 2006, quotes like "Plasma beater..." etc...

BTW: If you connect a proper media center PC (I have an Acer Idea 500) - they come with a HDMI output. Therefore the XGA issue is not an issue at all. It is awesome as a PC monitor used in this way.

At this price, you can't go wrong. The Samsung M is a good set too, but has some stability issues. The new Sony's are still overpriced, but do have 3HDMI if you need that.
