It's worthwhile reading the two reviews on the product spec on Sound and vision website.
Bloody awesome TV!

what's the difference between the w and v series as we have the v and need to buy another one for the kids, to get them out of our lounge!

This is only £699.95 @ Richer sounds.

Plenty of discussion about the differences in this thread.

Seems that the L version might have a few less extras, but is essentially the same spec picture (and a lot cheaper).

I have personally never had any trouble with Sound and Vision, but used to swear by richer sounds a few years back until a few of their products were turning up looking like they had been messed about with.

I've had this TV for a good few months now when they had the deal on @ Sound and vision with the PS3 bundle!
For the price I don't think you can get a better picture!

Not an LCD i know but a Panasonic TH42PX80 Plasma gives imo a better picture for SD and HD than this

(I have both btw)

If you to the Sony website you can compare easily. There is an option to only display differences between selections. One thing I know is on the W but not the V is a USB picture viewer. Turns the TV into a hugh LCD picture frame. I use it a lot on my 46W4000. I suppose it's the modern version of the dreaded slide show!

Oh no, I feel another lcd vs plasma stand off about to kick off again...

And then whether an Xbox 360 or PS3 looks better on each...

You do realise that the plasma doesn't even support 1080p and not true HD.
I would be checking your settings on the Sony mate if you are getting a better picture on the Plasma! Have you got anything 1080p hooked up to the sony?

Heres the Sony reviews:

They even compare the 37" model of the panasonic plasma.

PS3 looks better on mine anyway as I only have an original release xbox 360 with 1080i component leads.
The playstation plays on 1080p via HDMI.

Have had a PS3 connected to both.

I'm not wanting to start a LCD Vs Plasma war again just thought I'd mention from an impartial point of view that i have both and the Sony has been relegated to the bedroom as imo the TH42PX80 gives a more natural cinema like image for both HD and SD. I won't even start on how rubbish the sony dealt with Sky+ SD sport via an RGB scart feed. It was truly horrible.

Oh and from my 9ft viewing distance the extra Res of the 1080p is irrelevant on a 40/42" panel.

But if your set on LCD then this is one of the better panel's in this price range and i still voted hot as it is a good deal ;-)

No probs, I do know that the Sony comes with terrible out of the box settings that need messing about with to obtain the best picture.
I only have the TV hooked up to a PS3 and don't have freeview or even an arial to it so I couldn't comment.

Two TV's like that in your house!? Lucky sod!
Cheers for heat!

Its £870 in John Lewis , but i'm sure they will price match Ritcher Sounds with 5 yr gty ?

voted cold - £799 at Sony Centre with 5 year warranty and a blu-ray player with which you can claim a couple of blu-rays and you can get it for £700 at RIcher Sounds without the above.

can def recommend the tv though

Original Poster

Sony have only just lowered there prices. Not long back they were selling this tv for over a £1000 whilst Sound and vision had it at £700 odd mark.
I would never buy from Sony direct as they are a right bunch of robbing barstewards!

As for Richer sounds, do larger retailers not question where they get their stock from? I thought they can be a bit funny about them and their warranties?
