Pretty poor writeups on JL

800hz lol
No wonder it gets crap reviews, over HD 15 out of every 16 frames are 'made up' by the TV!

Those poor reviews are most likely due to Sony's awful android implementation....

Been watching this TV for a couple of weeks. This is £529 in black at richer sounds. I doubt jl will price match tesco, the warranty period are different

I managed to pick up the silver version of this from JL on Black Friday for £529. Time to get on the blower to JL to get a price match refund

what?

good price

I have one and believe me, the software is truly awful.... it tries to do everything but ends up doing nothing well... lip sync issues in the YouTube app is appalling

Your maths is wrong, that's not possible its pannel is 200hz from memory and should be on a 50/60hz signal! 800hz is a motion rate, nothing to do with the number of frames displayed in a second!!! It's more a reflexion of the screen resolution during high motion content not at all suggesting it will show 800 frames per second ;-)

pile of ****!!

Got it on Black Friday and it's a great TV only had to reboot it once but apart from that it's a beast of a TV. Kodi works very easily. I was watching Everest in 1080p and picture quality is astonishing. Great for gaming as well.

good tv choice! heat

is poop, sorry but true I've got one.

I have this tv and a little bit of calibration with the setting and the picture and sound is amazing, you will notice the differance straight away! if you have this tv google best settings for sony 50 w756, change settings and see if you see a differance? hohoho

Surely that won't work?...

Yep. JL price matched Argos for me to get it at £529, and their 'never knowingly undersold' statement means that if you see your item cheaper up to 28 days after purchase, they'll refund you the difference.

would love to know if they do refund the difference given JL one includes 5 year warranty

I bought the 3D version recently for a bit less than this price, but returned it due to serious light bleed/uniformity issues.
Other than that the TV was excellent. Android TV isn't great, but you don't have to use it, so not sure why these TV's get so much grief for having it installed - it's like writing off a Samsung TV because of an app in their app store.

So apart from Android problems I read about a lot with these the TV is decent?
Not bothered about Android as I will hook up my Shield to it.
Or shop around for the sales bargains but it must be Sony.

What is the difference between using a plain television with an Android TV appliance (such as a Nexus player) and using a telly that has Android TV built in? Does the Android TV part know about television channels, programmes and specific broadcasts? Or does it sort of “hand over” to the television and step out of the way?

Amazing tv android and sony go really well together. I dont understand the negatives from the android part mines rock solid. Would I want them to go back to no apps and a really really crappy interface like my 2014 bedroom tv hell no!!! Its got a chromecast build into the tv supports ever modern tech feature you can dream of. I do think £500 will be the norm price for these going forwards as 4k starts competing more.

@Daveh1664, JL were more than happy to process the refund of £30. FWIW, JL check to make sure the product is the same and that's it, whereas Richer Sounds compare warranty as well when looking to price match.
For all the doubters, I had the same feelings after reading all the negative reviews online. Since I've had the TV, I've been nothing short of impressed with it. The picture quality is probably the best 1080p you can get, the android implementation is quick, easy and enhances the tv (I don't have to plug in a raspberry pi to have Kodi).

Thanks Whoooo_Floorpie. Its the black one I want and have a price match against RS for £530. It's locked in until after Christmas so going to keep an eye on prices over the next week but this is the one for me, your comments have cemented that.
I've heard different things recently on this forum about price-matching, including JL, so the feedback is appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

I bought the black one from John Lewis so I'm assuming I won't get £30 refund because this Tesco deal is for the Silver one right?

Absolutely terrible TV. I have owned one for 3 months and have just persuaded my retailer to take it back. It doesn't do everything promised....no USB recording for example. After the latest software download you can barely change channels some times....took us 17 minutes to get it on to the right channel to watch the news, by which time the news had finished. Picture is brilliant...sometimes, but android software is a monumental disaster.

The news was depressing. You got off lightly by missing most of it

@Haroon. I doubt that they would the a price match given the different colour sets have different model numbers, it's worth asking though!
