I won mine on an auction, I checked the guys feedback and nobody mentioned fakes

If it is fake then I have been caught in the trap, but hopefully it will work

How do you know they are fake except for the obvious low price?

And the 4gb is £50 delivered.

Good find for a fake card? Don't think so.

I am 99.9 sure your card is fake,a nd it doesnt matter what feedback the person has, even if it 100,000 positives and no negatives.

eBay is mostly a joke, cant believe how many poor people are fooled into buying fake things. eBay really need to crack down big time. If I can spot fakes so can eBay.

Fakes show themselves in many ways.

Sometimes you will get a card and never really notice that it IS a fake - sometimes they can be a lot slower than a real card, sometimes they can just not have the full capacity available and sometimes they appear fine and slow down and eventually just break.

Mind you, knowing Sonys track record, most things they produce break in a few weeks anyway, so you may never know either way

How do you know they are fake except for the obvious low price?

The obvious low price IS what tells you it's a fake! No need to look any further.

I bought a SONY 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo from ebay for use on my PSP on 24 January, it was shipped the following day and cost me £28.99 which included delivery. I have had no problems with it and it certainly does not look or act like a fake.

Please be aware that play.com does sell fake/counterfeit goods. Two examples, play.com/Gad…nre
which is a knock off of the original that they also sell, unbelievably, which is this one, play.com/Gad…nre

Second one is this play.com/Gad…nre and again they sell the genuine version,
play.com/Gad…nre

They blatantly sell these products even though they have been made aware of the fact that they are illegal.

I for one would not trust them and I used to use them.
Make your own mind up, this is just a 'heads up'.

The two helicoptors are slightly different. Not so sure with the planes though.

I informed eBay a while ago, that 99.9% of MSPDs they sell are fakes. I received the usual pro-forma response, but obviously nothing was done about it. All eBay cares about is eBay.
However, I bought a fake from a reputable retailer also. I won't mention the name of the retailer, but I returned it for a full refund needless to say. These fakes are infiltrating the legitimate market also, so reputable doesn't always mean genuine where MSPDs are concerned.
I bought a 2gb Sony MSPD and a 1gb Sandisk MSPD from SVP, and they are both the real mccoy. I trust SVP implicitly, and their service is second to none. If the price looks too good to be true, then you are buying a fake. That is simple logic really.
BTW, that £149.99 RRP is a little rich. I bought this very same card from SVP for £60 or so, last year. To advertise this as being reduced by 81% is nothing but poetic licence IMO. This card may well have originally been £149.99 at launch, but the launch of the 2gb card was a long time ago. The typical price now is more like £40 or less.

Lets not be silly here, the comparisons you make are ludicrous.

The Sony fakes are manufactured to a substandard quality, and are aimed at coning the general public in to believeing that what they are buying is the real mccoy.

Please don't use no-name toy helicopters to say that play sell counterfeit goods.:?

I wasn't saying good find for the fake I meant the original post, as in good price for the genuine article

As for the supposedly fake card I got from ebay, i'll test it if it doesn't work he'll get it sent back and feedback left to state why and who knows I might even get trading standards involved I am with the majority here I don't like the fake stuff, I placed a bid on an auction and assumed I'd got a bargain if it was a buy it now price I might have thought it was a bit dodgy.

Hello all,

I can concur that (pretty much) all the cards are fakes on ebay if they are under £50..

I had a 2gb from the 1st wave around 13 months a go for £60 pounds which has worked fine since but was obviously fake (this was needed when Virgin were selling them for 149.99! and 1gb cards were 99)

I have had 2 4gb cards the first was DOA and obviously fake :x (40 a few months a go) and one for 17.99 a couple of weeks a go that works fine (for now) - the packaging is a million times better than the first one - which just shows you that people are easily fooled by a pretty box, but if you read the good work in that ebay article all the hallmarks are there - the blister packaging etc is all wrong and it JUST FEELS FAKE. - you just cant get real gear for these prices ....

Now the prices are under £50 (at last ) I will be buying genuine ones

So thanks to the original poster. Hope this is useful to someone....
