A great Smartwatch for a great price.

Think this is the lowest it's been yet. I had one for Christmas and more than happy with it.

Does more than many other watches, may not be as good looking as others, but I prefer the functionality as it's often under my sleeve!!

Does this have a heart rate monitor? I'm comparing to the Fitbit Charge HR

Original Poster

no it doesn't. the Sony is a smartwatch with built in GPS. so ideal for running. I guess you can add a Bluetooth heart monitor if important.

I think the two are quite different products, ie the Fitbit is a pure activity tracker that also shows the time and monitors your heart.

the Sony runs android wear, so you can add apps to it, you can dictate messages, screen calls etc. I wanted these features so went for the Sony.

These are great and this is a good price, I have one, the only bad thing is I never wear my other watches anymore!!!

I must admit I bought one and fully expected to have dumped it after a few weeks, but as time as progressed I'm using it more often. I swim a lot and although it's difficult to get full clarification on whether IP68 means you're covered for swimming more than half an hour I took the plunge (excuse the pun) and the risk of the £89. Using the swim.com app, which is admittedly a little buggy, I'm really pushing myself with swimming and the watch updates to the site excellently. I also play a lot of music through the Aux port on my phone in car and find the watch a lot less distracting than having the phone on a dock, I can skip tracks easily. I'm also beginning to use 'OK Google' a lot more often, setting reminders in particular, I'd actually like to try heavier dictating with it while driving for work but as of yet haven't found a great solution.

If you're thinking about a smart watch I'd say this is literally the perfect fit, I wear my nice Mondaine watch when I'm going out but this is on all the time for work and exercise.

My only minor criticism of it is the clasp, I find that if I try to wear the watch playing football it often comes loose and falls off meaning I've stopped using it for football, which is really annoying because I would like to track my running at football the most.

anyone that has one of these , the vibration is soft and crap, if you already havent , download **feel the wear** it will improve the intensity and also donate a couple of quid to go premium and it will give you loads of options for vibration patterns etc

I'd really like the steel bracelet model of this watch, but at more than double the price for a nicer strap is just too much money to justify to myself.

One of the segments on my long lasting big faced Bench cheapo watch from Argos stopped working today - this watch looks like the one to go for.
Just looked around and see that Currys do the watch for £99.99 with additional free white strap - not sure that I would want to wear a white strap.
None in stock locally, could collect in store next day
Would prefer not to shop at Currys.
I'm off for a walk to think about it - though if I need to check the time, I'm pretty sure my naff watch will persuade me.
Hot deal!

That is a good price. I paid £20 for the white strap alone. It lifts the watch up into a different class. Always get asked if it is an Apple watch. The black strap is in the box and hasn't been used since getting the white one.

Great watch. Though I am now hooked on my Microsoft Band 1 (£54 from Amazon last Nov) as it has the built in heart rate monitor and sleep recorder.

Nice find OP. One ordered, will be here tomorrow! I nearly bought a second hand one at Christmas for this price!

The vibrator on my is very intense, so either you have a duff one or demand an incredibly vigorous vibrating.

Bought one from Very.co.uk when they were on offer for a new customer at £62.99.

Very impressed so far, excuse the pun. Although had to wait 3 weeks for delivery, well worth the wait.

Only thing I find when navigating using Google maps is that it doesn't appear to use the offline maps from my phone and display them onto the watch, so the map view is a little distorted unless online. On the plus side it does vibrate when you need to make a turn as a helpful reminder.

Overall just a great watch for checking messages and replying through voice commands if you so wish, and the waterproofing rating brings more confidence that you can wash the dishes without it breaking.

100% agree with that. I now have a load of neglected watches. Brilliant watch.
I get it at this price at the start of December.

I have just been given one of these as a gift. Unfortunately I have an Iphone (4s), I have decided to take the plunge and move to android, the question is do I go for sony or another manufacturer and if so which one?

I have one. got it on offer for £89.99 from O2 in December. Get 2 days use from full charge. Brilliant purchase for me. The activity tracking is a bit hit and miss. But the latest updates really do make it a brilliant watch. It's the only watch I wear now. It is now used to me.

Thanks I just bought one with some bitcoin I had lying around

Vimogolf and ghostracer , sleep tracker are also great. Can't wait to try swim.com
Like others I wasn't convinced, took a punt and have been really impressed. I use mediawear to transfer tunes and with Bluetooth headphones I now don't need to run with my phone. For those worried about hrms get a Bluetooth one as most watch based ones are crap. GPS is more accurate than the one I had on my old s3. Miles better than the apple watch.

It would be cheaper to get this and get the strap from the sony site for about 50 quid.

Great watch, got mine at Christmas and very pleased with it. Checkout InstaWeather watch faces too as if you want weather based watch faces the free ones are pretty good and can be customised.

I have had HTC and now a SONY Z1. I must say I got the Sony based on screen size and its waterproof. I have not been disappointed. I can take it running and mountain biking to track progress without worrying it will get wet and damaged. My Wife has a Samsung S4 and that is fantastic too, though does not seem as robust. But I prefer my Sony and will 100% get another Sony Z phone when my contract needs renewing. And its good the Sony phone matches the Sony watch.

Complete mince. Bought it when it was on special at very and spent it back after a few days. Its all a bit pointless. There is better fitness gear out there if you want to track your movements, the screen lets you read your messages but the replies arr basic meaning you need to get your phone to reply which makes it pointless. It tells the time but is a bit chunky that i would rather just have a normal watch. Not to mention the phone drain i got on my z3 so spent it back.

Hiya

"There is better fitness gear out there if you want to track your movements" - it's got full standalone GPS, so tracking is great! (unlike most rivals you don't need your phone when you go running or cycling etc. )

"Replies are basic" ... only if your grasp of speaking the English language is basic - the watch has full speech to text capabilities so you can reply whatever you want...

The metal strap is not available from Siny, unless you have a link where there is stock?

Can anyone tell me if this is compatible with the Nike+ running app.
Cheers.

If you buy this, you can put your phone away, it's amazing. Going running? Leave the phone at home, as the GPS tracking is standalone. Simply add Ghostracer and it uploads to Strava when you get back. You can either navigate using the watch alone, or in conjunction with the phone and it buzzes your wrist at each turn! So much easier to glance at your phonewatch to change direction than look at a screen.

Want the answer to a question, a sum or a conversion? Just ask the watch using Google Now and it displays the answer. That is just the start. I twitched last time it was on a deal and pushed buy. Best gadget I have owned thus far, and I have 'a few'!

I reckon I have reduced the number of times I look at my phone each day by 90% too.

Ah dang it. Got the pebble steel recently but sorely tempted by this...

Just got this watch for my birthday. Love it, but also love my fit bit hr... Currently wearing both!

I've got the original pebble and love it, love the faces, notifications, battery life!! But I've also got a z5 n I've heard it works well with the phone.... My question is, has anyone upgraded from pebble to this? Is it worth it? Are there that many improvements that the sacrifice in battery warrants

Thanks for any advice

Went for the Curry's offer in the end.
What a dreadful mobile website!
Do they not test their systems?
Really not looking forward to travelling to the store to pick up - horrible edge of town retail park, with idiot drivers trying to knock you over.

Same situation here, was going to order last night from curry's but at one point it said delivery was after 5pm within 5 days of order, not quite clear enough for me to bite.

I was going to get this but I'm holding off as it doesnt support making calls and I think 2 day charging will get annoying quick.

I got the swr30 secondhand for £30 instead. No gps, but still tracks steps and sleep, and you get notifications AND you can use it as a hands free for calls as well as use google now etc.

I'm on my third day and battery is at 47%.

When the smart-er watches last this long I'll bite.

Does anyone know where to get the leather bracelets for this watch? I cant find them for sale anywhere. Having said that I have this watch since Xmas and its been on my wrist ever since. Even made a watchface to replicate my favorite watch that I now never use. The charging is negligible. It takes less than an hour to charge every 2 days. I set the watch to airplane mode at night and saves loads of battery.

I ordered one of these last night from Amazon. It's not a pretty piece of equipment I have to say but as someone pointed out it spends most of the time under your sleeve anyway. I am most interested in it for the activity trackers especially the swimming tracker and it will be interesting to se how that works. As for the charging every two days that's not really a problem for a lot of people as after all most charge their phone every 1-2 days. Anyone waiting for a fully featured smart watch battery to last for weeks on one charge is either going to be waiting for a long time for some major advances in battery technology or will have to have a huge watch on their wrist due to the size of the battery.

Yes, but I fancied filling up some drawer space with a spare white strap

Curry's have just apologised that there is a 24 hour delay on my order.
Useless, useless, useless!

I wouldn't trust this for running as the GPS is inaccurate. I tested this against my Garmin GPS and it was way out at my measured 5k parkrun. also the Sony didn't track the paths correctly on the maps when I do my usual parkruns. and goes haywire in the rain.

Just to add a good point the built in music player is fantastic used with Blutooth headphones for gym and running.

Thanks just off to Tesco to update phone, it's Samsung v Sony. Samsung has the edge but I think Sony wins :).

Regarding Sony Xperia and waterpoofness.
I bought the Z3 so that I would access to electronic maps in the rain.
The advert for the Z3 showed someone taking photos with the phone underwater in a stream - sometime since then Sony changed the advice to “Remember not to use the device underwater” and “The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures.”
Charming!
In my experience the touchscreen is unusable when it is wet - I almost got kicked off of a bus once when trying to bring up my mobile phone bus ticket when the phone was covered in rain drops.
I still prefer it to my previous Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

hehe!
I got an email from the courier DPD just before 11am telling me that there was no one at PC World to sign for my package - I bought the watch on pay and collect - and that I should contact DPD for redelivery or arrange to pick up from a DPD outlet - I don't live at PC World, so no possibility that I could provide any id for that
After 25 minutes on the phone to Curry's, I got the info that apparently the courier went to the back of PC World and got no answer. No idea why he didn't walk in through the shop front door.
It's going to be delivered on Sunday now - 2 days late - but I will not be surprised if it messes up again.
Useless Currys and DPD - how on earth did they manage to set the order up so that I was the one contacted when DPD could not deliver to store!
Not sure how many time I've said that I won't buy from Currys again - I can't see myself using them ever again (until the next time).

I received my watch today from Amazon. Very impressed with it so far. The GPS seems pretty accurate to me. It logged my run route accurately . I did have some initial problems pairing it with my S6 but I did factory reset and it then paired with the phone right away. Not sure the battery will last 2 days as the watch went from 100% to 83% in the space of 2 hours. I have had to turn on battery saving. Other than that all notifications are working fine. You get a 6 month free premium trial to Endomondo(fitness app) if you have Samsung phone but there's a free trial for that app comes in the watch box anyway.

The vibration seems a bit weak but I downloaded the feel the wear app as recommended in an earlier post and the vibration seems a lot better now.
