Nice but now that the 1st gen Galaxy TabPro 8 has been reduced so much it looks a bit expensive?

I think the biggest selling factor on this is the PS4 remote play functionality with a dual shock 4. Looks like they've only got the white case. Good price.

Same price as Samsung tab s, though not as good in terms of screen resolution and quality.

I've just ordered one with a black case.

Tablet should arrive just in time for the new COD advanced warfare game.

Thanks OP

This doesn't have as good a screen but has MHL 3.0 for 4K tv connection, waterproof and PS4 streaming. IMO those outweigh the screen difference, provided you have a PS4 and 4k monitor of course. But even if you don't those features mean this is more future proof

I'd take this over the Samsung any day. 1200p on an 8.4" screen is still really sharp, and as already mentioned, there's added value with the Sony.

I'm loving my Z3 Compact phone, chilling in the bath reading my Flipboard feed. I'm sure PS4 remote play will come in handy too for those occasions where the missus has friends round (or when she insists on watching Downton on the big screen).

You can pre-order a Nexus 9 for £319. Not sure if this is that great a deal.

amazon.co.uk/dp/…NY/

The waterproof and PS4 features are worth considering though.

this is tempting, i was toying with both a nexus 9 and PS tv and this would cover both bases for less than the n9 alone. it also has a micro SD slot which would be useful

It's not not that good, as you get high input lag when you are "streaming" to your tablet.

Soooo stuck between getting this or a N9.

When you spend £300 or more in a tablet or a phone, what are the main reasons ?
Is it only for web browsing, email, social networks, average photos and games ?
My friends and colleagues don't play games but they always go for the last Iphone or Samsung S? and end up paying between £30 and £40 per month when mine cost me only £7.50 per month. And we do exactly the same things.
Because i bought the Hudl 2 and i can't see what an extra £200 would give to a tablet that i can't do with the actual one i own. A fancy screen (e.g Retina) is good but when i use a tablet or a phone they all seems good to me.

N9 got the beast Nvidia graphics but there are so few games that use it. Trine is amazing but War Thunder yet to arrive despite Nvidia putting it in their Sheild Tablet marketing. One huge issue is no sd card slot. 16gb with nowhere to offload app data to is going to be v limiting, Trine 2 is 2 gb as are Portal and Half Life 2, which are also Tegra K1 games. If u don't want to game then no worries but having Nvidia onboard and not wanting to play those games is a bit mad.
Personally the Sony wins it for me but only if you already have a PS4. If you don't think you will load large apps and 16gb is enough then the N9 blows this out of the water screen and speed wise. The Tegra K1 is so far ahead of Snapdragon that some reviewers actually benchmarked it with the HD4400 in the Surface Pro 2

Good products, but they change them so quickly, Z2 phone was only about 5 months old when they launched the Z3, so expect big depreciation on Sony products.

nice-new

In short because of design and feel. I bought a £1700 Retina Macbook Pro just for surfing the net. It was the only laptop that was designed well and offered HD screen. I hate seeing pixels and hate plastic crap.

Likewise with Tablets and Phones.

how do you know have you used remote play with a tablet?

I have a Z2 tab and it's great. Yes the screen isn't as sharp as a Samsung tab but it isn't all that noticeable and Sony's software is way less obtrusive than Samsung's. The PS4 compatibility is a great feature, I really hope it comes to the Z2 as they have very similar hardware.

If you plan on playing games or downloading DRM content I would definitely get the 32GB version as Google have all but locked down sd card access meaning apps can't put data on it. I'm exploring rooting, convincing my tab that the sd card is in fact part of the internal memory and unrooting (as aps like sky go won't work if rooted) but not tried it out yet. Anyone had success with this?

All manufacturers seem to do is rush out products without testing them fully, then updating them to improve the faults.
HTC did it with the one X and Sony seem to be doing it with the Z series. I hope the Z3 is finally right

Waiting for this to be a little cheaper hopefully. Seems more deals appearing.
Discounting the N9, too close to a 10, don't like HTC products anymore and I'm not bothered about the latest Android version since they started restricting things I liked about it at 4.4.
No way a modern Wifi tablet can be limited to 16Gb, just not practical anymore, Games are too big, and you need decent quality on your movies too. Time you add a couple of those and the system, there will be no room left.

i'd definitely buy this over ipad mini 2

Why is it any different to streaming to the Vita?

I thought this but in fairness, the deprecation is no worse than any other handset, the Z2 (and even preceeding Z1) were such good handsets they have held their value pretty well - Sony get such a bad rap but they deserve to be doing so much better, their phones and tablets are probably the best on the market right now all things considered. I do disagree with their 6-month life-cycle on phones though, but at least they've agreed all Xperia Z handsets (including the original Z) get Android L.

Horses for courses, no point comparing android and IOS really. IOS much better for gaming though in my opinion. They get better optimised and generally better games earlier. World Of Tanks yet to release on Android and it's one of the best tablet games out there. Problem with IPads is lack of expandable storage again. The games on iOS are even bigger than on android. Some are nearly 4gb!
Reduced original IPad Air 128gb looks a decent buy at £450 odd from Tesco though
Edit: for info I own Samsung S8.4, IPad Air and Nvidia Shield Tablet so speaking from experience

Exactly the feature hasn't been released yet so all we have to go is whats we have seen in demo's at game expo's and that has all been exactly the same as the Vita which is good

good price but will wait for the nexus 9

Already pre ordered the Nexus 9.

However, this is mighty tempting. Micro SD slot, PS4 remote play, water proof and no doubt that the battery life will be incredible on this.

0% interest free over 12 months too. Ordered.

I've heard that Vita remote play can be a bit tricky because you have to use the back touch area for at least two of the shoulder buttons and the games aren't generally designed for a screen that small. With a tab and official controller it could work so well, but we'll have to see how it works in practice. I don't even have a ps4 yet but if they nail this feature (and support the Z2T) then I'll be getting one.

I have the Z2T as well and can't wait for remote play functionality on it, all videos seem to show a good user experience with the z3. This brings a whole new dimension to the tablet... seems like Sony are finally listening to what its users want

It looks like Sony are doing £30 cashback on a tablet purchase made between 15th Oct - 1st Mar. Applies to Z2 and Z3 compact tablets.

campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/dyn…jsp

This would make the effective price of the tablet £269.

A bargain if I've not missed anything in the T&C's for the cashback.

Definitely worth adding to title and OP if all is good.

Looks like it's not valid on the sony site

The Cashback is only available on Sony Qualifying products which have been supplied and

Ahh thats bad news. I'm browsing via mobile so couldnt properly view all the T&C's.

Thanks for taking a look.

I'll hold off a few weeks and buy elsewhere using the £30 cashback rather than buying direct from Sony with the £30 off code.

The Z3 range has been getting discounted heavily at online retailers after a few weeks. I would expect the same with this tablet as its priced a bit too high to start with and there is plenty of competition from other new tablets with xmas round the corner.

Once its dropped in price, the £30 cashback will come in very handy for a further discount.
