very good price (posted the 20quid higher price a couple days back) only the retailer a bit unknown
how do we know they are authorised reseller?

Yes thanks for the original post. I've been looking around for the best deal on this camera for a few weeks and almost bought it after seeing your post. The extra £20 drop made me go for it. I've paid by Visa just in case there is a problem. They advertise the cashback and claim U.K stock and they e-mailed me the cashback claim form this morning along with tracking details of the courier.

Brilliant cameras for their size

Yes, larger sensor than most of the compact system cameras, which is what made me go for this over the Panasonic GX1.

Great camera but not a patch on even a budget slr. Depends what you want. If you want pic quality the defo a dslr. If its size then a ccs is a good compromise.

I didn't want the bulk of an SLR I had one before and because of the size I preferred using my TZ10 most of the time, unless I was purely going out to take photo's. Same sensor as an SLR.

I also have an TZ10 (which is great albeit throwing OIS errors every now and again. Just ordered the Nex 5r, been tracking these camera's for a while. Nice to hear a fellow TZ10 owner is going for the same type of camera.

You may miss the super tele on TZ10 though.

Heat from me,

As a well researched photo buff I can tell you the sony sensor in these cams slaughter the Nikon V1 and the TZ10 with regards to picture quality and low light performance.

yep good , wish i had not got the tz30 deal

It is not always about the absolute picture quality though. Nikon 1 excels in focusing speed, and the 30-110mm is a little miracle that it can match top quality lenses in many aspects with such a little lens body. TZ10 is feature-rich, pocketable, and it is a super-zoom.

Heat from me, excellent camera and a real bargain at this price, but not heard of the retailer before.

This camera uses the APS-C sensor used in the Nikon DSLR's. The image quality is the same as a DSLR. The APS-C sensor is also used in Sony DSLR's too.

Great camera with quality results but not the same bulk as a DSLR and lenses.

I use the D7000 Nikon and this is Sony is used more and more and is giving the results I'd expect from the NIkon.

The 1 thing it lacks is a remote shutter release connection but "BULB" is available.

cant believe so little heat!

Arrived this morning via Royal mail special delivery. The box was sealed with the usual Sony seal and everything is as it should be. UK model. :-)

btw phoned up today and after some checking was told they are a participating retailer for cashback
sounds good

this is putting me off "The 1 thing it lacks is a remote shutter release connection but "BULB" is available." i guess on a sturdy tripod wouldn't be so bad.

I am looking to make or use maybe and old type release shutter cable with some kind of adapted clamp on either side...........if that makes any sense. Might get some of the guys at the local tech to try and make one up.

Have to say though...................this is a brilliant camera and the shots even in low light are just outstanding. Shots are very useable even at iso 3200 and for the net or small pics at iso 6400....pretty good.

If you have no problems with going in and out the menu driven system then this is really worth the money, really!

Now..........back to that design...........maybe some kind of plastic composit or new softer material X)

renagade27

awesome, ordered mine! cheers OP

Im a TZ5 owner, recently managed to pick up a NEX5N from Comets demise. Sony is a great little camera and feels quality, but I've got to learn how to use......don't want to leave it in ai mode all the time. You WILL miss the super zoom on the Lumix, but the Sony should yield some nice results once I get used to it. Great price on this package.

This did quite well when tested by a professional photographer on the Gadget Show recently.

I'm keeping hold of my TZ10 as a back up. I'm gradually getting my head around the Sony's menu system, there are so many settings and I have beem very impresssed with the low light performance without flash and the flash has a nice balance when used at night. A spare battery is a must as it takes 280 minutes to charge, I bought a genuine Sony spare on e-bay for £18.

Just got my £50 cashback Visa card through from Sony today.

Been looking for budget DSLR or decent compact for a few weeks. This deal has swung it for me. Cheers!

Better than? Yes, certainly but to say it "slaughters" other mirrorless cameras is somewhat of an exaggeration. Bottom line on image quality with pretty much all of the current Mirrorless products is they'll be more than acceptable for the vast majority of people using them and there are very few that will *require* the extra benefits of a DSLR. Low light shooting is another matter of course, though how many people shoot low light without flash in the target market for most of the current Mirrorless products I'm not sure. Personally I'd much prefer a DSLR for those conditions, even if only because I find them much easier to keep still while taking shots with relatively slow shutter speeds but that's just me.

Was looking at this recently and ended up going with the J1 instead. Why? Because I personally wanted a small camera to drop in a pocket for those times I can't or won't carry my DSLR. The Sony is a relatively small unit but its lenses really aren't. For the sake of comparison the longest zoom lens on the Sony (55-210, or 82.5-315 adjusted for crop factor)) is 345g, 10.8cm long. The Nikon equivalent (30-110, or 81-297 adjusted for crop factor) comes in at 180g and 6cm long. Actually even Nikon's DSLR equivalent is better at 335g and 9.95cm! Same story on a prime lens, Sony 50mm is 202g, 6.2cm while the Nikon 18mm is 70g and 3.6cm. I know it doesn't sound like much but if you're looking for a portable, pocketable camera those little difference can mean a lot.

Again though, let's be clear, this is a great camera and will produce great results if used properly. As with all cameras I'd recommend testing one out for yourself first to make sure you can get on with it and the size and weight are what you want.

How would this compare to a Canon 1100d?

come on amazon...drop your price.....

How would this compare to a Canon 1100d?

different league

It has flip screen and built in flash - similar sensor as D7000 - without having to splash out on NEX6.

Possibly one of the more feature strong but underrated NEX camera.

Wish I haven't spent 350 quid on 600D with Kit, but bought this instead.

Have you not looked at the speed of these nex cameras? Amazing.

My NEX 5N can shoot 10 frames a second! They are the best solution to carrying around massive DSLRs with little sacrifice in image quality.

So your comparing a sony 50mm with a Nikon 18mm lol Try the 30mm sony pancake. Yes I own a Canon 450d,60d and s100, but my sony nex5r kit beats them all for price versus quality.

Wawg

How weird i had an dlsr with pro lens..whilst the best pic quality agree bulk was a pain and ideal for alot of environments...skiing for one..i used a tz10 as a compromise and to be fair video on the tz10 is superb for its size..and then i got a sony nex3 which an even better compromise...its nowhere near as good as a dslr though...no viewfinder...limited lens range and no mirrors system so you are reliant on the interpretation on the lcd screen

Renegrade27

I clearly know more about camera than you. Yes it has a decent sensor...BUT it doesnt use the mirror system that makes dslrs so unique. Also the lens are nowhere near the quality of dslr lens..you are reading too much into the specs...wouldnt be surprised if you own an iphone

No pro would use a ccs instead of a dslr

I have loads of cameras including a canon dslr...nex3...tz10

Anyway this is a great price for a decent camera if you want decentish pic quality but nit the bulk of a dslr
