Ive been looking for a new camera to replace my Sony HX9V for some time. A choice between travel zoom or larger sensor dslr....decided on a larger sensor.
Saw this, it has some good reviews.Picked one up today, however stock is looking low.

Selling for similar prices 2nd hand on ebay. Hopefully a good deal for someone else too!

wise choice. far superior (good though they are) to the hx series.
not as far reaching/portable or versatile as the hx series but picture quality is in a different (better) league.
camera/deal now at the heady height of 2 degrees.
it's deserving of much more

check other nex prices but looks hot

awesome camera!

Is this better than the Samsung NX cameras? They look pretty similar.

very nice camera. been carrying it around instead of dslr.

excellent camera. I have the nex 3 original and use it instead of my bulky dslr and pro lens. sure the pic quality isn't as good but its less than 1/4 size and weighs about 1/10th of my dslr and kit

only other downside is the lack of a viewfinder, which is why im after a nex7 or poss nex6

I've the Sony NEX 5-R which is a more up-to-date but not that dissimilar model, and I expect IQ is identical. If you want to ditch the bulky SLR without losing SLR quality this does it...and mine is on a par with some mid-range SLRs. Such an impressive bit of kit considering the size drop.

This is a great price, I paid around £480 in total for mine, okay newer model but still, this is a steal and would have tempted me, could have bought more lens then!!

Hey Royals, Just FYI, when I was doing my research on the Nex series many, reviewers and forums alike, seemed to think the NEX 6 the better option as the 7 just didn't handle noise as well due to it's extra megapixels.

I've owned both the 6 and 7 (and 5R and 5N and 3) the ISO is marginally better on the 6 to the 7 (they're both perfect upto 1600) but in conditions where you take most photos (ie daylight), the 7 delivers the best quality images in my opinion.

The F3's a decent camera but I think with a bit of hunting around you'll get a 5R for a few quid more (£280-300ish) and it's a much better camera, well worth the extra money.

How easy is it to use Minolta AF lenses on this one? I found a range of different adapters, but they seem to be either ridiculously expensive, or full manual.

no stock left in my near stores...

I'd take the Sony over the Nikon anyday. Love these cameras, They are tiny. you can take it everywhere.
I run small video production company for weddings and corperate work and these are great alongside our bigger sony cameras We have an FS100 which uses the same lenses but is a few grand more expensive and the quality between the two is not far off.
We mount a monitor to ours too so we can see what we are doing lol

i dont really get the point in a camera like this,
why do you prefer taking this out instead of an slr?
yeh it is a little smaller but it still has a big lens so i dont see why that matters, and it has no view finder, altho it looks like it takes good photos.
but if your well into taking photos (which assuming you must be if your looking at a camera like this), why would you not just use an slr?
i dont mean to sound ignorant just curious as to why theres a market for these, just seems like a less capable slr.

sure the nikon is proper slr but sensor is smaller than the sony and sony camera is smaller - depends what you want

oh come on the nex 7 was a £1500 camera at launch I think last year, now about half that

im after the 7 the viewfinder is more than needed tbh - or I may opt for the 6

my dslr and 4 lens and kit weighs near 10kg (I have the 24-70 which is a beast amongst others) and I need a rucksack or slingshot rucksack for it - my nex with 4 lens and kit weighs about 1.5 or 2kg - it really is quite light and can be placed in a medium shoulder bag - if I want I can use the 16mm lens and its average pocket sized

other main advantages
it has a better/bigger sensor than all budget dslrs and mid specced dslrs, only high end dslrs have better sensor
its faster than almost all dslrs nex 3 is 7fps and 7 is 10fps I think
lots of inbuilt features like panorama and 3d panorama etc
viewfinder on nex6 and nex7 is incredible and as close they'll get to a dslr optical viewfinder

remember whilst great the mechanical slr method is very old and antiquated - one day itll disappear with a lot of negativity just like when dslrs took over from slrs

sensor size is practically the same, 3200 has 24mp and Sony is 16mp, and the Nikon has better ISO performance and dynamic range.

interesting point - agreed re: mpixels sometimes more doesn't mean better - bit like the 1080p v 720p non-argument - 1080p is only better if the tv manufacturer has used decent components but ultimately if the source is bad 1080p will only make it worse - my 720p pioneer kuro plasma still pees on all tvs made today though the new panny plamas have finally bridged the gap

I think nex7 has wifi and the nex6 doesn't but sony pricing has got way out of hand - £1500ish at launch last year I think for a nex7 was just insane, now it down to £750ish - still £250 too much - gutted as I missed out on a used nex7 fully working and mint camera only for £200

I paid £180 for 3 nex3s from Costco about 2 or 3 years ago - absolute bargain - sold the other 2 for £375

I very nearly pushed the button (shutter?) on a dsc-hx50v, 30x optical zoom but still tiny sensor. However at £250 i thought id take a look at this.
Also the ability to shoot full HD AVCHD video also swayed it for me, similar to my previous HX9V.

At this price point its firmly in the super zoom compact area rather than real DSLR?

D3200: APS-C 23.2x15.4mm - 6,400 ISO - 2.8 x size of nex
NEX-F3: APS-C 23.4x15.6mm - 16,000 ISO ibuilt panorama and hdr, smaller, lighter, faster shutter 5.5fps v 4.0fps

oddly the nex f3 is slower than my original nex 3 which shoots at 7fps

not the same in my book, more mp doesn't mean better

I love this setup, you should check out the RX100 compact if you ever need a super portable solution. Shame it only has a 3.6x zoom though.

Hot deal on the Nex though. Lovely camera.

optics not much, IQ yes.

Excellent deal thanks; just managed to find 1 in stock. I already own various sony alphas but this little beauty is excellent, 1080p video too. Only lack of ext mic input is a limit. Standard sony battery a boon.

I have one of these and it's great. I don't have the time to learn to use a proper dslr and the Mrs also needs to use it too.

Really nice pictures and has a brilliant cheat option for an automatic background defocus that produces some really professional looking portraits.

Yes, miles better in every way.

NX or NEX?
the sony has OSS the NX, depending on version bought, might not. NX1000 no NX210 yes.
stabilisation can make a big difference.
NX stabilisation lenses around £150.
DXO Mark show the sony as a reasonable performer, with the NX not too far behind, if you choose to believe those methods of counting.

Good price but these cameras to me only really make sense when paired with a small lens. Appreciate some zoom lenses compact down well.

I have the newer version and its a cracking camera, since buying it I have never took my DSLR out the house!

hows that? which function?

How does this compare to the Lumix G5? Which other cameras are really good around the £200-£250 mark? Don't really fancy carrying an SLR e.g Nikon D3100 on holiday.

Thank you

its there is auto if shooting jpegs, just an aperture setting control
nice camera, doesn't have remote shutter options though which is annoying

these large sensor camera tend to be about definition, how articulate a performer they are and low light performance.
i had a canon a2500 which was quite sharp for £40.00 but low light was/ is poor.
some of this camera business is about saying i'm serious.
size is quite important to some, pleasure to others, sometimes both go hand in hand.
my limp wrists like something light, hauling a kilo up to my eye can be a real drag.
£500.00 for a phone?
software updates? where are they for camera manufacturers, counting photons in the sensel is a software issue, isn't it?
but no, buy a new camera. That is one thing microsoft do, support.
if camera manufacturers supported the consumer in the same way we wouldn't need a new camera every two years, only a different lens.
gripe gripe gripe,
i have an olympus e-pl2 after 1600iso vertical blue lines appear. i also have a ten year old e4040 in which the colour and low light f1.8 produce very nice results for £15.00

Having owned a nex 5, 5n, f3, 7 - I can say this is a great little camera - unbelievable value for money. Only sold mine to get a RX1 due to fullframe sensor.
