is this like a phone but you can't ring anyone on it?
There is a market for this, same way there is a market for sat navs. Phones do the same job but then drain with battery life and constant interruptions. I have a ipod for my music player, and wouldnt start using mobile for dedicated listening to music.
These are brilliant.

The quality is so much better than streaming the same files from my phone. Hooks up well with my Bluetooth headphone and great not to have to rely on streaming.

Heat!
Horses for courses, but prefer using something like this, than canning the battery on a phone.

This is a good price, recon one's get hot for not much less

Yes no sim no GPS etc
I had one of Sony's older players....ended up using my phone even more.

Really a niche item or for those that really do require a dedicated portable music player....shame it doesn't use android as the operating system.....heated up regardless due to nice reduction

Thanks for posting

Too right, very niche product. I contemplated getting it, but then the phone does pretty much the same.
Would need good headphones plus I’m guessing this has Spotify offline ? But then how long will those apps be available on these
Lowest price ever for this
Absolute bargain

Might be the best price it's ever been but agree with everyone abt using their phones instead - it's cheap because no-1s buying it

Yep.....just bring out a decent phone and DAC them up just LG do.....

Also buy out Black music player and Neutron player and build them into your mobile device.....combine the great UI from Black, music playback from Neutron. Both are feature packed!!!.....

I certainly remember my LG V20 and B&O H7.... musical bliss
It's difficult to justify buying one of these when you can just use any old phone you've got laying about doing nothing.
Great player. Sony proprietary cables suck though.

I'm tempted, but then I remember I've got an NWZ-A15 sat in my work bag that I never actually use so whats the point?
Yes I use steaming to decide which music I like and then buy the albums that I feel are worth adding to the collection.

Its cheap because the new one has just been released
Same as the 35 went cheap when this one came out
Get an ES100 or BTR5 mobile amps and connect bluetooth ldac on phone or usb via usb c to phone as an alternative. I can vouch for BTR5 - it is EXCELLENT with my FH7 in ears.
Techmoan has a review on it.

Hard to justify buying anything you have no interest in or don't feel you will benefit from.

It's a Walkman

I never understood why Sony didn't blend a walkman and a smartphone, they could have even had a phone from each division, a bravia phone for films, a PlayStation phone for games, a Sony cybershot phone for photos...

You are using a Bluetooth connection therefore there is no benefit in quality from using the Sony. Any difference in audio will be from a software audio equaliser which you could do just the same on a phone.

I had one of those. Connected by parallel!
A dedicated audio player like this will be miles better sound quality than your phone, unless it's a LG designed for hi-fi sound.

Ive got the newer nw-a55 and its great. Whack a 256gb card full of your music (drag and drop on windows etc) and off u go. Lasts 40 hours easy so perfect for long journeys. Get the sound limiter unblocked if you buy this uk one though. Keep your phone battery for everything else.

Streaming music is for people who dont know what they like.
My iphone can't do anything near 45 hours so heat added for a dedicated music player.

They did that. They had cybershot ranges and Walkman ranges before the smartphone age. The Walkman phones were really popular at the time. They had theme support which was cool

They did. All failed miserably as not many people considered their phones that good at the price tags they were asking.
So it's got hardware buttons, can play FLAC and uses an annoying proprietary charger.

This vs iPod Nano 7th gen?
Phone is fine for listening to music for an hour or two whilst commuting but for long journeys, camping, etc. you need to save your phone battery, so this is great for that.
Can these us FLAC? Been fed up with my Ipod as a dedicated music device as I may as well be using my phone to stream songs. You will never get a better sound than listening through a dedicated device that supports FLAC... Unless all you care about listening to is Beiber, Stormzy and the likes.

Yes it supports FLAC.
