The misses has had one for 3 years and still going strong, longest surviving piece of technology she has ever owned.

I think the iPod fanboys have come in here.

Where else can you get this cheaper? Where else can you get a better bluetooth enabled 16GB aluminium bodied MP3 Player with high grade earphones cheaper?!

Could understand it if iPods sounded better, and were this price. Neither however applies.

Ipod touch is far superior, for £60 more I would go for the touch. Far more features and it makes the sony look like its come from the stoneage.

Surely that depends if you want an MP3 Player or not? The audio chipsets in Sony Walkmans are renowned for being the best in MP3 Players, therefore anyone wanting a MP3 player and not an app device has better audio, iPods have poor audio chipsets.

I personally use my NWZ-X1060 for audio only, and use my Android phone for apps.

I did a comparative listening test between a brand new eyePod and my old NWZ-A720 which is still going strong and at least 5 years old.

I used the same MP3 file and the same over ear headphones. Frankly I was stunned at how poor the sound quality of the eyePod was! Why do folk spend so much more on vastly inferior sound quality? This deal is brilliant value!

eyePod? I'm sure you have a cheap Chinese rip off! :-D, On another note, It's weird people talking about audio chip sets ect. Most people think the sound quality you get is from downloading music from"eye"Tunes rather than pirated, then getting a decent pair of headphones. Great to here advice that the sony has superior sound quality, Shame the ipod dock I have would not be compatible arghhhhhh

I did to, my brother has an iPod touch and I have a NWZ-X1060, we used exactly the same 320kbps Gorillaz Plastic Beach album MP3 rips, and ensured that neither device had any EQ functions enabled to cloud the sound processing, and used the same headphones.

We both concluded that the iPod touch sounded "muddy" in comparison, there was a far greater frequency response on the NWZ-X1060 with a "fuller" sounding midrange...much greater detail. However, the NWZ-X1060 does have the Digital S Master Amplifier in it compared with other Sony Walkmans but even when I have compared my older walkmans the sound has been better than other MP3 players I have tried.

I have also owned an older NWZ-A818 and that sounded superior to my Creative Vision M. In fact with whatever tests I have done I have found both Sony and Samsung to have the best sound, and that has to be down to the DAC chipsets they use.

Used to own an iPod, battery life of a fly and like listening to music through the neighbour's wall. Itunes seems to update every other day, and is such an annoying piece of software.

Bought a sony and never looked back. WMP, much criticised, but does what I need it to do. Also allows me to play my music catalogue through the tv/surround sound system via the wifi connection or to the xbox.

I admire Steve Jobs for what he did to the markets, but sorry apple fan boys, it's all downhill now.

For example, what is the best selling phone these days? Its not an iphone.

I wouldn't have so much of a problem with Apple if it wasn't form over function, but sadly that is all I seem to see with Apple. But there again I guess some people don't buy MP3 players for sound quality...one thing Apple have got going for them, marketing and peer pressure.

Where was Apple when Sony had the Walkman during the last 70's when it all started? For sound quality, Sony all the way since they have been doing it for decades.

I've had a Sony Nwz mp3 player since summer 2008 and its still going great with the original headphones. The sound is the best i've heard from an mp3,the bass is amazing and a full charge still only lasts 3 or 4 hours less than the 30 hours it lasted when i bought it.

Exact same as lee078. I bought an 8GB Sony NWZ S series 3 years ago for £60 (from a deal posted on here, same deal maybe?!). Terrific sound quality & great battery life, and it's still working perfectly. It's been a brilliant mp3 player for me and I'd definitely replace it with another Sony.

Hi guys, could anyone shed any light on the sound quality of Cowon and Kubik brand mp3 players in general? The flac-less support of the Sony's always puts me off buying them.

Hmmm, yes I forgot about that, my only gripe with my Sony MP3 player. Only heard in vague terms that Cowon are supposed to be pretty good.

I would not personally recommend FLAC on a portable device like this with limited flash memory, just ensure you use a decent MP3 ripping front end that supports LAME.

Thanks for the update Jackie, amended, and thanks to the mod that unexpired it....even better deal now!

As already stated, the sound quality of Sony walkmans is outstanding, as is the build quality in my opinion.
The headphones are also excellent.

All in all this is a great deal - thanks OP.
