seems like a great price.

RRP on those speakers is £60 apparently
sony.co.uk/pro…m30

so a pretty good deal on the 8gb one methinks... (youd have to be pretty silly not to pay an extra tenner for double the space...)

SONY's mp3 needs to install dedicate software in order to put things in it. That's the bad point.

Not according to their description:-

Extremely simple to use

You don’t need any software to load music and videos onto your WALKMAN® Wirefree. Simply plug it to your laptop and then drag and drop your favourite songs and videos. It’s as easy as that.

Add to this the extremely intuitive interface and you have your perfect entertainment companion.

Good find, I've been looking around for a bluetooth MP3 player. Mmmmm, I just might....

They stopped the need for SonicStage a while ago

The speakers are ok, I used them with my netbook via bluetooth.

Arrrrgghhhh , I have ordered one, darn you and your deals

Im now thinking what would be more useful though , bluetooth headphones or speaker. It used to come with headphones, hmmmmmm. Oh well ordered now , ill let you know tomorrow how it performs.

Thanks

Unbelievably hot! I paid £99 about 6 months ago for a 4GB (and that was £40 off the RRP) This is the best mp3 player i have owned. Amazing battery life, blue tooth works perfectly. Sound quality is immense and........most importantly........ it isn't an iPod

This from the 8gb description

Choose how you hear your favourite music

The WALKMAN® Wirefree gives you great choice in how you listen to your favourite music. You can stream it wirelessly to your headphones (wireless headphones are supplied as well as in-ear headphones). Alternatively, you can stream music to your car stereo, HiFi or even Playstation3 so you can now listen to.

Ooooo , we get the wireless headphones and speaker , i do hope so , thanks mate nice one, i should really learn to read

I bought the 8GB version with the bluetooth speaker for £99 about a month ago! Damn it! The package I got came with the speaker, but no wireless headphones. Double damn it!

Thats a GREAT price! Jaw dropping even.

The Walkman is simply one of the best mp3 players around, period. Better than any iPod, with the exception of the ipod touch perhaps. The sound quality from it is stunning.

The speaker is brilliant too. It may not have the sound quality of a Bose set, but the convenience of not having any wires AT ALL completely makes up for it. It's at least as good as any other £50ish set of speakers out there. A set of Duracells lasted for about 9 hours of continous play. And you can hook it up wirelessly with your laptop, phone, etc etc.

To be honest, it's one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Oh, and it does not need any additional software - just connect it to your laptop and use Windows Media Player. That's another bonus too, not having to use awful iTunes.

Not really. I've recently bought the S739F (16Gb non-btooth) @ £83.50 @ play. They are drag n' drop mp3. Really good quality and happy with purchase.

yes it's the same product, no you don't get both. it comes as a retail package, in which is a freshly boxed speaker, and the MP3 player. So if you wanted to sell the speaker on ebay to offset the cost, you could do it very easily, and it would be brand new boxed.

the mp3 player is amazing, although i am currently having troubles with mine - it used to be a plug and play device, but now my computer refuses to recognise it. I think it might be the data cable damaged.

Overall, the mp3 player is amazing - truly incredible sound quality, and the free in ear headphones (NOT bluetooth) are the best i've ever had with any mp3 player. They run my Shure's pretty close for sound quality, and are just a little over weak on the trebles, but i have to say they are genuinely amazing.

Watching videos on it is amazing, and if you use the Media Manager software, it will convert any images you place on the device into a format and size that the player can use easily (it dopesn't auto convert video though, so you'll need something to do that, like the latest VLC).

The bluetooth speaker is great - plenty of volume, and can be battery powered, but it is very bulky, and far from portable. setting it up with the player is easy, and the player has a one-touch button to auto connect to whatever primary blurtooth output you want.

All in all, this is an incredible piece of tech, and works beautifully most of the time (unless you manage to damage your USB cable). The only thing i'm disapointed is lacking (and hopefully will be implemented through a firmware update at some point) is file transfer over bluetooth. now that would be amazing.

I got the 16Gb version without bluetooth for around £96 its definitely a solid mp3 player and much better than the dodgy samsung one I used to have (It was a samsung yp-k3 2gb the screen lasted about 2 months and then showed diddly squat).

Oh and to confirm the player is just drag and drop, no need for any software to manage the music. Or you can sync it with windows media player if you feel like it.

Voted Hot. As Shabe and kev_gordon have both said I can also confirm you can copy music onto this MP3 player without using the Sony software.

I got the 8GB version with Bluetooth and it appears as a USB storage device and allows you to drag and drop music. What I did do was create a Folder for Artist with a subfolder for Album names and then copied the music into there.

I have to also point out the standard corded headphones which come with these Sony units sell standalone for around £20 and I think they are amazing.

There's a new Sony Walkman X-Series Walkman due between March and the summer (announced at CES) - which looks like the cats pyjamas!. See links below:

OLED touch screen / WiFi / Bluetooth 16 & 32 GB versions - prices not yet announced - so there may be more bargains to come as they clear the old models between now and then!.

I don't know whether to wait (and then doubt if I'll be able to afford the X series - but I desperately want one!), buy one of these, or hope for better bargains later:?????

Hot Deal nonetheless!.

Does anyone know if this comes with the voucher for the Napster To Go 2 month trial as well? I got the NWZ-S639F a while back after seeing a deal on here and you got it with that and I was well pleased with it, jealous of this deal now though

Great deal. Got the 4GB / Speaker combo for Christmas from the missus, £80 from play.com at the time, so double the space for the same money! Superb mp3 player, great wired headphones, and the speaker is pretty cool. Don't hesitate.. buy it now! U know u want to!!

Amazon are selling the speaker on it's own for £74.62, I know that's not the cheapest around but it does show how great a deal this is.

It would be perfect to have a great sounding "portable" bluetooth speaker but this thing is HUGE, so whats the point ?
If you are going to use a speaker this big, it's going to have to sit somewhere kind of like a standard speaker would, you may as well get one cheaper (minus bluetooth) and just plug your device to it.

Does anyone know if this would work with the bluetooth facility on a Mini Cooper; this would be ideal for my wife if it was.

i like the look of those wondered whether to wait or not and check the price of them, not sure the intoduction of those would reduce price of the A or S series though. dont think they are really a replacement for those, more an ipod touch alternative. so it would probably be around £150 or so, not paying that though.

i was looking at the red 16gb S639, but should i take this or not? i like the red one though

Being honest - i don't know, but I believe it should work fine. You can set the MP3 player to "pair" mode and then get the car stereo to search and it should pair up like any bluetooth devices.

thanks op just ordered. heat and rep left

many thanks for the tip

To comment on what was said earlier on, I don't think these come with wireless headphones as well as a bluetooth speaker. The bit of the description on the Amazon page (for the nwza828 in this deal) where it suggests that a set of wireless headphones are included as well as wired reads like standard marketing spiel that has been copied from somewhere else.

The box contents at the bottom of the page only lists wired headphones and a bluetooth speaker as included.

Hmmm, not really.

Bluetooth deviced do pair indeed, but then there are different profiles:

As long as the Mini's audio system supports Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) it should work.

For handsfree calling, there is another profile (that's not suitable for music: not stereo etc.)
Hands-Free Profile (HFP), or maybe they use Headset Profile (HSP) to get the phone talking to the car's audio system.

So basically, phone handsfree and digital audio streaming via bluetooth are different: if the phone works, you're not 100% sure that your audio streaming will work (look for A2DP in the spec sheet or audio manual).

Look on wikipedia to find more info about A2DP.

Also keep in mind that changing gears, braking, turning up the heat, indicating, changing lane on a roundabout, checking make-up in the mirror, turning up the volume on the radio or steering wheel AND operating an MP3 player with a small screen at the same time can be dangerous! Probably on the same level like texting!

These do not come with wireless headphones. Only the bluetooth speakers in a seperate box.

I can confirm that this DOESN'T Come with the bluetooth headphones - Just the Speakers, I'm seriously considering sending it back because of it.

seriously?

Why not just sell the Sony BT speaker, you'd probably get around £50 on E-bay - brand new and boxed, and buy a decent set of bluetooth headphones.

Some people are just never happy.

I was thinking of doing that - however don't forget the description on Amazon clearly states that it comes complete with the wireless headphones!
