Good price
That's not a great price. These were £120 each for half the year and with black friday coming up, they're hopefully closer to £110 each or less.

Awkward to place if using as surrounds too, unless the room happens to have great positioned furniture or walls for it.
The play one is now an old model. You can usually pick these up for £100-£120 each
Not a very good price for the Play 1. If it was for the One then Yes.

Just be aware that users connecting via iPads to stream music downloaded onto them are experiencing problems following recent updates by Apple.

Sonos are not releasing updates to overcome the issue which only occurs with the Play 1.

isn't the Play1 just the same as the £199 speaker, without the voice control gubbins? hence a good price, please post up links to £120 offers as i can't see any on a quick google. you can use voice control on this model with a standard mini smart speaker

It was £120 everywhere around Prime day (Amazon, Richer Sounds, John Lewis, etc). It was down to £109 in some places. Last black Friday it was down to £99 in some places.

This is probably the best price right now but I'd be very confident that if you can wait 2 weeks it'll be cheaper.

Oh yes the sonos speaker from IKEA which isn't a sonos . Instead of buying a vw why don't you buy a skoda. Same engine and same company.

The Sonos speakers at £99 are not that good from IKEA. I tested them out. Might be good choice for rears in a 5.0 or 5.1 setup as wall mountable. I bought the lamp and can assure you it is every bit as good as a play 1 (it might actually even be better) and can also support airplay 2. Having said that it also quite a bit bigger so certainly won't work in all cases.
Also would recommend these over the new version for rears as they can be mounted to more of the cheaper wall mounts or stands for the rear surrounds due to the screw in nut fitting

Maybe its is just me but the marketing dept screwed up big time in my opiion by calling the new model One and the old one is Play:1......
I never know which the deal is for - fine if you are into your Sonos - but for mw who just wants a decent speaker and Sonos is one of the options if the price is right!
I paid £299 for a pair when I purchased all my Sonos speakers a few years ago, so not a bad price.

Be careful they breed. I have play 1's in most rooms (some in stereo pairs) and a soundbar and sub for my TV. One of my best purchases ever.

That's a terrible comparison because loads of VW group cars share the same engine and platform. The guts of the Ikea Sonos speakers are made by Sonos, but they aren't the same guts as the Play:1. So it's not accurate to say they are the same thing, only cheaper.

As others have said, there has and will likely be bigger discounts on these on BF, especially as Sonos has discontinued them.

I will say wait until Black Friday Sonos one will be around same price or better , play 1’s are to be phased out so will go down close to £100/£110

You say they are getting phased out? Are they replacing them with anything? Are you meaning the Gen2 is getting phased out?

This is the Play 1, then there was the Sonos One, now the Sonos One (gen 2) so the model in question is actually much older than the gen2 you speak of.

The Sonos One replaced the Play1 in their line up, however, has still been sold since.

Perfect. Thank you for the clarification.

Don't forget the One SL if you want a Sonos One without a microphone for voice assistants and is a closer replacement of the Play:1.

It looks like they're just selling off the old stock now and the Play:1 is going to be discontinued (they've stopped selling it on their website)
Not a terrible price for a Sonos speaker but I’m definitely waiting to see what the Black Friday offers are like on the newer Sonos One!
