sorry guys, my first submission.

may you tell me how come this deal is not showing up on the first page of the HUKD website????

thanks

which 'first page' do you mean? i'm looking at 'Discussed' tab of deals and yours is on there.

Might be worth putting that it's Digital Direct in there, rather than 'Playstation 3 40gb deals'

my bad. This is my first submission so there are things I am misty with.

I've heard next month there's a big price cut coming - along with a bigger hard disk PS3 (120gb or 160gb) to boot. Anyone know any more?

And John Lewis were selling 40gb PS3s for £250 the other week, so I'm not sure this with the postage is that good a deal.

sorry mate - the new SKU's are just for the Yanks

once again, Europe gets shafted - & i thought its the region Microsoft & Sony are fighting for.

exiting stuff about the PS3's being reduced... expected as much with the 360s now a fair bit cheaper.
I just want the backwards compatability and I will buy one... got too many PS2 games to decommision...

With regards to a price cut I know Sony repeatedly denied one coming before christmas when they were asked about what they intend to do about the Xbox360 price cuts this month.

However with regards to the larger hard drive, HMV are pre-ordering it for £340

HMV 160GB PS3

It comes out Halloween

Hmmm this deal is ok if you're on a budget and badly want a PS3 but I would just buy the 80gb for £300 or wait for the new 160gb version. If you decide to go for the 40gb you will probably have to upgrade the hard drive, as 40gb doesn't go very far with the PS3. This is because you have to install the games before you play. I remember Haze being something like 5gb. So to buy a new hard drive would be around £40 plus. Then theres the controller...the 40gb comes with the standard Sixaxis whereas the 80gb comes with the dualshock 3 which is much, much better. On its own, this costs around £30. Plus you can probably get the 80gb with a good game for about £310 from Game or Amazon. So, is the £55 saving over the 80gb really worth it in the long run?

The 80GB was also confirmed last week to definitely have the 65nm RSX, the 40GB still has 90nm.

Not really. Europe has more Xbox love than Japan (which has non at all), but Europe is usually considered Sony's territory. America is the only place where Xbox has any real standing so that is where they are going head to head.

Come on...cater for the thickies!

Bummer if we don't get a price cut....I think my mental trigger is waiting for under £300 for the 80gb and 2 controllers.

Even at this price you'd be crazy to buy a ps3. 360 is alot cheaper and vastly superior for gaming.

My rationale for a PS3 is:

Use as a media centre - I've got loads of films in Divx, loads of kids pictures and stuff.
Use as a blue-ray player and DVD upscaler.
Use as a network backup drive.
Use as a media streamer.
Use to play games.

As far as I've read, the PS3 knocks the Xbox into a cocked hat for the first 4.
I know there's a big debate on who wins for the 5th, but on balance, the PS3 seems to do more, better.

I agree. I have both Xbox 360 and PS3 and my PS3 hardly ever gets played on. The PS3 just doesn't excite me like the Xbox does. In my experience, Xbox Live is much better than PSN. More or less everytime I turn on the PS3 or want to play a game I have to download a new update. This would be ok but the download speeds on the PS3 are so slow it takes hours...even for small downloads. The Xbox however takes minutes to download. The PS3 does have some good games but nothing compared to the 360. I suppose its all down to what kind of games you like.

Any news on the PS3 Slim and Lite? Was rumoured to be out before the end of the year.

I agree that this is a good deal if on a budget and in a hurry. I am gagging for a PS3 but keep holding out for that 'never to be repeated' offer.

At the moment I can't see past Amazon: c£305 gets you the console (with the dualshock 3 controller), HDMI cable (I know they're cheap anyway), a new game and delivery: ] here

Any advances on this deal?

PS3 does a lot more than games :whistling:

Wipes the floor with the 360 as a media player (95% of my usage)

and if your streaming media from a PC/NAS rather than storing locally then the 40gb hdd is irrelevant.

good price

Thats interesting because in Japan last week the Xbox 360 outsold both the PS3 AND the WII -

Xbox 360 - 30,783
Nintendo Wii - 30,652
Playstation 3 - 7,860

So unless there are Two Japans you are Wrong..

And as for the USA -
Xbox 360 - Last weeks sales = 90,486 total USA sales to date = 12,502,038
Playstation 3- Last weeks sales= 48,924 total USA sales to date = 5,867,147

That's hardly going head to head is it, the 360 is going head to head with the Wii in the USA especially on the software side(though a lot of the Wiis software sales are made up and counted as sales from Wii Sports which is really a free game that is included) where the PS3 is nowhere.

As for Europe I think you will find that is now considered Nintendos territory by a huge margin, in fact you are lucky to get a non Nintendo game in the Europe/others chart top 10, this week the only One being " Mercenaries 2: World in Flames" and by the way that's the 360 version..

to be honest, the price for that 160gb deal is insane.

wait fopr the 40gb to drop in price, which it will before christmas, no matter what sony are saying, they're reknowned for talking out of their backsides, then just upgrade the hdd yourself with a 2.5" 320gb hdd.

if/when i get a PS3, i certainly won't be paying over the odds for hard disk space from sony, that's for sure.

meh, that's one weeks sales.

it's happened before, but it's never going to sustain those figures.

the reason it sold so many units last week was because Infinite Undicovery was released.

I just don't get this? why do these consoles have such small hard drives??? I mean a few weeks back I bought a 250gb from ebuyer for my PS3 for £42 .... So if the 80gb version is £299 and the 160gb version is going to be £339 are we not being royal ripped off here? surely it's an extra £40 for another 80gb of space, with their buying power for an extra £40 shouldn't we be seeing 320gb drives in these things?

And before anyone says what would you do with all that space, I have all our pictures, MP3's and a load of movies on my 250gb and then still have an external 1TB (FAT32) drive full of more stuff....

Why are they ripping us off so clearly?

This is from someone who owns an xbox, PS3 is alot better value for money after you take into consideration all the add ons you will end up getting for the xbox(wifi adapter, online subscription etc) and also the RROD.

Agreed, All 360 fans are so biased, having to pay to play online is an obvious way to sell the consoles cheaper and rip you off later, atleast the PS3 has no hidden extras

I agree, the only reason I got the xbox was because I modded the firmware:whistling:

PS3 is a far superior console, it is much more then a console as discussed above with blu-ray, media centre etc.

the PS3 will have to be dirt cheap before i'll buy it. sony seems to love shafting europe with it's deals

also I'll be surprised if blue ray really takes off like dvd, a reasonable PC is good enough to play most movies,

Comparing digital media with old fashioned tape is nothing to do with this, The dvd digital media was a huge leap forward Blu Ray is not, it is more of the same, Compare it to DVD players with HDMI out and people are buying them in huge numbers over any Blu ray or HD system..
And another fairer comparison would be HD-Film downloads i.e Xbox 360 which can be done from your chair and no Drive needed....

I know Chelskii...it's just a bit of light hearted banter ;-)

Even if that's true the point I was making was that someone said "No one buys the 360 in Japan" or something like that and this just shows that that is not true either way(it still outsold more than triple the amount of PS3s and it was a PS3 owner not a Wii owner who said it by the way) that's all.

I love my ps3 its sweet all u need is Grid, GTA4, COD4 and MGS4 and you are away

Do you think i should go for it and get one, will probs get the 40 gig & get myself a 250 gig Sata HD to replace the one it comes with. Trading a Laptop for it, so no cash changing hands???

Do it. Makes a fantastic media player. If you plan to stream you will need wired or 200mb homeplugs for 1080p content though.
