Introducing PlayStation TV, an entertainment system that extends the capabilities of the PlayStation 4, allowing players to stream their PS4 games to any TV in their house. PS TV makes the ideal companion to PS4, enhancing the user experience and connectivity of the console and providing a second gaming station for an attractive price. Released in Japan and Asia in November 2013 as PlayStation Vita TV, the system has since continuously evolved through software updates and content enhancements. Adopting the same chip sets and system software as the PlayStation Vita, PS TV has a 6.5 x 10.5 cm ultra slim size – the smallest of any PlayStation platform that connects to a TV. In response to the demands from users in Europe and the PAL region, SCEE will introduce the system under the new name and colour, and will deliver entertainment experiences only possible on PS TV. The main features of the PS TV system are as follows:

- PlayStation 4 remote play: As with PS Vita, PS TV supports PS4 remote play and wireless controllers (DualShock 3 or 4). This will allow PS4 owners in the living room to continue playing a game on a PS TV system in their bedroom. You can also enjoy most of your PS4 games on PS TV as if you were playing it on your PS4 system (games requiring PlayStation Camera are not compatible).

- PlayStation Now: Once PlayStation Now is rolled out across the PAL region, PS TV users will be able to comfortably enjoy PlayStation 3 games via streaming.

- A vast lineup of software titles: PS TV offers a huge library of PS Vita, PSP, and classic PS One titles. You'll be able to enjoy all of these titles using a DualShock 3 or 4 controller.

I was just reading about this online. Looks cool, but nobody expects or seems to want it to succeed! So much hate for the Vita in general (which this essentially is).

Shame it's not a bit cheaper, and doesn't look like we'll be seeing the pre-order bundle that the yanks are getting.

Worth noting that not all vita games will work, it's pretty much anything that uses the touch screen or rear touch pad that doesn't as the DS 3 doesn't have that input.

Still i'm in the market for one of these but will wait for more information nearer release, PS4 in the bedroom for £85 is the big selling point for me

Love this little console. Vita games play well on it. Remote works great on it. Only issue I have with remote play currently is it is locks games to 720p and 30fps. Games like Destiny remote play fine as it is 30fps locked anyhow. Does not look no ware as good as it does when playing it on a PS4 (due to 720p) but still looks fine. Games like FIFA and Battlefield all though there playable and looks fine. Due to them both being 60fps games they just don't feel right when played via remote play to the PS TV.

Is nothing like a Vita as it cannot play vita games due to lack of touch controls!! It is basically a receptical for PS4 signals that goes to another TV.

Playstation NOW will fail miserably in this country due to the poor internet infrastructure and bandwidth limitations / throttling of UK ISP's (Unless Virgin Media are finally going to reveal their link with Sony as being unlimited none throttled supply)

I have a PS4 and a Vita and currently Vita is taking a back seat, Sony have reduced 1st party output and are concentrating on indies. I didn't pay Day 1 price for my vita to be fed many crap indie titles until they hit the new Journey, Flower etc! PS4 has not had any decent AAA games for a while (bar maybe Watchdogs).

This to me seems like a waste of cash

Touch games can be patched tbh. Rayman Origins and Legends both heavily use touch controls on the Vita. Yer both have been patched to work with the PS TV. Just click the sticks down and a courser appears on the screen to replicate the touch screen.

What Sony should do is allow you to use a Vita as a controller with this. So all games can be compatible with it and have the touch controls at the same time.

Could of swore I was playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Rayman Origins, Dungeon Hunter, Souls Sacrifice on my Vita TV just last night. I must be imagining things.

Except some are being tweaked to work (e.g. Killzone). And who knows, maybe you'll be able to use the DS4 touchpad in the future, or the handheld Vita itself in some way.

It can play vita games just not all of them, it has a vita memory card slot, a vita game slot, the vita's chipset and the vita OS. It's a vita without the screen/touchpad. When it launches I half expect to see some patching going on to patch out the touch controls on some games when they are on a ps tv instead of a vita. It's main uses really are to push ps now and ps4 though. It's also not a bad little box, i'd rather pay £85 for this than something like ouya that has even less games.

It is precisely a Vita for the following reasons:

1) it has identical core hardware architecture to a Vita (same CPU, same GPU, same RAM)
2) it was released last year in Japan as the Vita TV
3) it has a Vita cart slot FFS!

As far as we know, there are only some games that it won't play, i.e. ones that rely heavily on the touchscreen/mics/cameras (Tearaway, Touch My Katamari etc.). Why on earth would it have a Vita cart slot if it "cannot play Vita games"?

So how many of the Vita's "many crap indie titles" have you actually played, or even heard of? Yes there aren't as many Vita exclusives as there should be, but so what? It still boasts an array of excellent games (see below for the evidence), many of which are multi-plat but, in my opinion, play best on the Vita (like Hotline Miami, Virtue's Last Reward, Sound Shapes, Luftrausers, Spelunky, Guacamelee, Lone Survivor, Thomas Was Alone, Rayman Origins, Sine Mora etc etc).

Personally I will stick with my Vita. Love it and often play PS4 games remotely using it when the TV is in use.

They could've just released a tv out cable right?

Problem with this is the price. May have been a purchase at £40-£50. Then again i need to get a Vita first. Who cares about Playstation Now really. Pay to rent some games. No thanks

I really wish that were a thing! On that point, I wonder if there's a homebrew that lets you do that?

Good price, love your avatar OP

Can try code FBFAN5 too.

There is actually a company in Japan that mods Vita's and Ds consoles. They install HDMI boards inside the Vita. Cost a lot of money though.

This is like a Vita as cannibal said above. It was originally called "Vita TV" and it's main purposes are to play Vita games on a TV with a controller and to use PS4 Remote Play. If you could hook your Vita up to your TV it would pretty much be the same thing.

Thanks! It was originally a GIF of the Big N spinning, so retro

I will wait till its around £50 before buying this...

As for the the PS TV, I actually think it's pretty good. You can play Vita games, use remote play with your PS4 and use it for Playstation now. It obviously won't be a big seller but as it's a decent price I can see it doing well. Owning a PS4 and a Vita though I don't think I'd buy it as I don't need it. Maybe if it was about half the price I would though.
Edited by: "Bure11" 19th Jun 2014

I'd rather just pick up my console and leads and take them into a different room instead of buying this.

I bought a Vita TV from Japan on release day, really cool device with lots of potential. I sold it though as none of the content would work as it's region specific.

Vita games with touch control usage work fine - you activate the on-screen touch pad by using L3 and R3.

really interested in one of these but since vitas are single-person devices it'll never support ps1/2/streamed beat-em-ups with 2 controllers. it's remaining features seem to be ps3 and ps4 streaming (ps3 has almost no support for remote play, ps4'd be under your main telly anyway) - playstation NOW is a long way off and will probably be a paid service, the compatibility list isn't impressive (though should expand) and it doesn't have a lot of media apps/features the ps3 has.

worth watching but if you own either a vita or a ps3 seems pointless in it's current form - that said i'd love to see killzone : mercs on a big TV.

Who are you with? throttling is a thing is the past (except Virign Media) all suppliers coming down BT lines as far as im aware do not throttle, BT infinity and any other FTTC product flies, im getting around 75Mbps (admittedly im lucky) but even getting 20Mbps is plenty.

It can't play all vita games the way they were supposed to be so it's pointless. People are so easy to lap up this ****.

Just my opinion for what it's worth, to me it's nothing like a vita for that simple reason, hence my previous comment. Just as it has the same spec as a vita doesn't make it one.

Do Virgin Media actually throttle anyway? They are suppose to however I have never noticed any difference myself and I download quite alot!

Judging by Vita sales i don't think people wanted all vita games the way they were supposed to be

It has already failed once with the previous streaming services available. Even when Virgin throttle my 150mb connection I am personally fine, there are far too many anomalies for it to be a success. However if they all pulled together and get a much better infrastructure as well as the streaming end being the best it can be, then maybe.

If it gets some other services, like Netflix etc then maybe but to initially be nothing other than a streamer for PS4 and the ability to play some Vita games (and not as they were meant) to me it just seems a tad pointless

Lol, that's a fair point, I was a day 1 buyer, more fool me!

(BIZARRE QUESTION) if you can sync the ps4 with this to play on another tv, if it uses internet protocols (wireless) to communicate via your network I wonder could you have the playstation tv hacked to work on another network, ie my ps4 sending info from my house and allow my brother in another house to play providing my ps4 Is powered on and he has one of these nifty gadgets? would be interesting if there is a hack to do this, he would then not require to by the base machine but have access to my ps4 titles in his home

I doubt you'd even have to hack that. The Vita does remote play which is exactly what you described, so unless they've said otherwise I presume this will do remote play like that as well.

If you like throwing money away do it . just like when i purchased move and playstation tv !

this will be a very useful thing for people who own Sony consoles and want to be able to play in different rooms with ease.

Plus services like Amazon and Netflix which don't come together in things like Google Chromecast or Apple TV

No one has to buy anything they don't want but this device will be great for many people

Actually it does support 2 controllers (PS TV). Downloaded PSone titles like Tekken can have 1 v 1 with 2 controllers.

Don't for get people the Vita TV also supports downloaded PSP games.

You can already do that with a Vita so I don't see why it wouldn't also work with the PS TV.

I'm willing to bet these will drop to around 50-60 within the first 3 months. I'll give in around the £50 mark to stick in the bedroom for PS4 remote play haha. I love the idea of it, don't have to buy two PS4's now, wish something like this existed with the PS3's, we have 3 in our house atm

Don't these come with a DS3? I saw an image of one with the DS3, if it does, you could sell off the DS3 and make it even cheaper?
