Yep, should be fine. Used something similar in my xbox 360 controllers for years. Just bought this for my new xbox one.

looks like it ages to charge the batteries according to a review on amazon. I've already got energizer 1hour charger but recent found the batteries not charging as they should so could do with some decent batteries instead.

The Sony Charger with Four AA 1.2V NiMH Batteries is a handy unit to keep in the studio or at home. It can handle up to four AA or AAA NiMH batteries in about 7 hours so if you're headed for a gig or a trip the next morning, just plug this unit in and your batteries will be charged by the time you leave next morning.
Sony Cycle Energy NiMH batteries generally last about 3x longer than traditional alkaline batteries. They also deliver a constant charge so if you're using electronic flash, your power output will remain constant from flash to flash. The low discharge rate will maintain 75% of power after one-year of storage.
This unit features a built-in safety timer and voltage monitor. It will also monitor the charging temperature as well as detect if you accidentally place alkaline batteries in the unit.
Use for clocks, radios, remote controls, flashlights, cameras and toys
Dual voltage 100-240V

is it worth keeping my energizer 1 hour charger and just buy some batteries or swap to better ones, need them for my xbox one.

yes quick charge does shorten lifespan. even if you have to buy a pack once a year, still a huge saving over alkaline

might as well get an xtar so if you spend £20 excellent charger can do vape batteries as well

Eneloop are by far the best, I have some 2+ years old "1900mAh minimum", my charger (Technoline BC1000) measures them at about 1950mAh still.

Lost count of the number of GP/Tronic ones I've had to recycle cos the charger just says "null". (_;)
