Is this cheaper elsewhere ?, As that would explain the cold votes.

xbox fanboys are like oh noes!111!1one!!11 dis is becominz as cheep as d xbox.

That would be my guess

Good price, although who knows what may be announced at E3

good time to own one, great library and some stonkers coming soon such as GT5, LBP2, Killzone 3

i posted this yesterday as my first post and it got voted cold straight away lol

Voted hot as it's a good deal for what's currently available (I'm an Xbox owner so am not being partisan)

But......

I suspect retailers may now / soon be clearing stock of PS3s with the current version of the processor (CECH-2003) to make way for units with the new, thinner (and less power hungry / less hot running) chip (CECH-2103). Search on the big G for "40nm RSX PS3" for a variety of articles and forum entries about this.

From what I've gathered, it's already "in the wild" in some stores in the US and some are suggesting that this chip is one of the things Sony will be publicising at E3 next month - so hopefully they'll hit our stores shortly after.

I was thinking about getting a PS3 anyway, having just last weekend finally made the move to plasma from CRT, but think I may hold off until the new versions are available. Should be easy to identify in store, as apparently the CECH number is on the sticker on the box, but it's not so simple for online purchasing.

What difference does a new chip make? I managed to get the deal at Argos for £264.99 250 Gb with Play TV, 2 games and a £10 voucher which I used towards Red Dead Redemption, to make it £24.00

I cant see the point in waiting for a "thinner" chip

it will run cooler more efficient and as a knock on effect for any owner, the ps3 will use less power and will last longer potentially. i wouldnt wait for one, although with e3 this coming month i think its a bad time to buy possibly. For the sake of waiting a month to see if there is going to be another price drop or whatever, i'd probably wait for that reason.
