THIS IS NOT WITH MOVE OR A GAME BUNDLED, JUST A STAND ALONE CONSOLE FOR PRE ORDER!

The internal design architecture of the PS3 Slim, from the main semiconductors and power supply unit to the cooling mechanism, has been completely redesigned, achieving a much slimmer and lighter body. Compared to the very first PS3 model with 60GB HDD, the internal volume as well as its thickness and weight are trimmed down to approximately two-thirds.

Furthermore, power consumption is also cut to two-thirds, helping to reduce fan noise. While inheriting the sleek curved body design of the original model, the form factor of the PS3 Slim features a new meticulous design with textured surface finish, giving an all-new impression and a casual look.

PS3 Slim continues to offer the cutting-edge features and functions of the original models, such as the ability to enjoy high-definition Blu-ray disc movies and games, as well as various content and services downloadable through the network. PS3 Slim's storage size has increased from 80GB to 320GB, and with the extra capacity users will be able to store more games, music, photos, videos as well as various content and services available through PlayStation Network.

Having more than 27 million registered accounts around the world, PlayStation Network offers more than 15,000 pieces of digital content, ranging from game titles, trailers, and demos to more than 15,000 movies and TV shows via PlayStation Store. PlayStation Network members can also download free applications, such as PlayStation Home, a ground-breaking 3D social gaming community available on PS3 that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences, as well as Life with PlayStation, which offers users various news and information on a TV monitor in the living room by connecting the PS3 to the network.

If you are in two minds over Move, definitely get this.

With the move bundle I don't believe you get any games just demos, so even if you like it you are forced to pay full price for the games.

The difference between this and Amazons bundle is £40 (if quidco goes through).

The RRP of the Move bundle is £40, and cheaper deals will come out soon and likely bundled with Move games.

I would get this. (and have myself 5 mins ago)

Or TheHut have the same bundle with 2% quidco too.

If move does not come with it, its better to go for the 120gb for £199, buy a 320gb HD for £30 and then sell the 120gb HD.

No its not because the 320GB's are the CECH-2500 models with the upgraded Heatsink and fan, alongside 40nm RSX.

The 120GBs for sale at Sainsburys and Morrisons are more than likely the CECH-2000, or you may get lucky and get the CECH-2100, but not the newest 2500s.

The CECH-2000 have 65nm RSX, and the CECH-2100 whilst having 40nm RSX have some pot luck issues with fans ramping up to grating levels that touch wood hopefully the CECH-2500 has finally fixed.

the rrp of the console is £249.00. so really a 6% discount .. does it mean in the coming weeks it may settle down to around 230£ mark..?
I m in no rush but wondering about getting one.

Good price on a pre-order console. Just ordered one with move as even without the quidco it is the cheapest deal around, the quidco just makes it better.

so if wanting one for media more so than games the newer ones are better due to being quieter?

Yes they should be.

I had one of the CECH-2000 120GB's last year for one day as I had one with the dodgy fans that sounded like a piercing headache inducing whine.

You could never watch a blu-ray with that going on hence I sent it straight back in the wait for the 40nm RSX version to be released.

The CECH-2100 are the 40nm version but read people say on AVforums some still had the high pitched whining issue, the CECH-2500 were announced at the same time of release of the CECH-2100 so decided to wait for it.

The CECH-2500 has a newer and better Heatsink and fan, alongside a few motherboard upgrades to make it run with slighly less power than the CECH-2100 so am hoping and praying it will be quiet.

If you are buying your first PS3 today, get the CECH-2500 next week.

On a separate note for those curious Quidco has tracked at £4.70

The Slim ps3's are quiet as it is...I've got the 250gb and even at its loudest it still doesn't really create that much noise.

Well on paper it should run quieter and cooler, however from what I have found its a lottery when it comes to fan noise and PS3's.
I had a launch day 60gb and that was super quiet, near silent, unfortunately the Blu-ray drive failed I got a replacement console by Sony, the console I got back was louder. I then later replaced it with a slim and that's even louder.

How good is TheHuts customer service?

How good is TheHuts customer service?

They own pretty much every online retailer

Asda, Zavvvi, Sendit, Lovefilm and others all all TheHut owned.

My Slim 120GB I bought last year was from theHut, I sent it back for a full refund, it took about 2-3 weeks for the money to come back onto the card but they did refund the return postage costs too.

£5 cheaper at zaavi with disocunt code on quico if ordered today

Out of stock at Zavvi.

Do TheHut package their console deliveries in cardboard boxes or plastic wrapping over the original box?

I hate damaged boxes for consoles.

If they sell a lot (and considering the Move bundle has got huge amounts of pre orders), expect the price to go up instead of down. They did that when the 250gb model was released.

im not buying into this Move stuff - it just seems a rip of Wii controller. Kinect looks better but even that has little interest.

Confused now which one should I order Move bundle or standalone console.......

By the looks of 'Move' demo it seems to be exciting however can someone convince me of any draw backs of ordering bundle than standalone console.

Bundle is costing £32 extra (in addition to the price for this deal) if ordered from Shopto.net and Move itself is costing £40 at release which saves me £8.

Hot! Always choose PS3 over Xbox!

The Wii opened up a lot of possibilities but the awful graphics make it unplayable for me. So Sony bringing out an accurate much more precise, HD version of that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Kinect has potential, but the lack of buttons means there will be no shooters or games that involve precision, so for that reason I really cant see much use for it personally.

I've had 2x60Gb and 2x80Gb PS3s, all of them noisy to varying degrees, my most recent one is the nosiest. I think a lot of it is down to perception, and the size of room you have. If you have it in a massive room you'll probably never notice the fan noise, but in a smaller room its really quite intrusive especially for bluray playback. Its not as loud as the original xbox, but still annoying.

That said there does seem to be a lot of variation between units, so perhaps the newer CECH2500's with the heavier heatsink will be quieter for everyone.

Someone earlier mentioned you can get a 120GB for £199, where is this at? Most places I look are out of stock

are ps3 prices due to drop anytime soon???

Yep, but my point is noise is subjective, and those with 120Gb slims often complain of fan noise on avforums etc, so its certainly the case that some peoples slim models are noisy too, and hence if you have a quiet one you are lucky!

merlin777

Patcher (the predictor guy who is wrong more than right) said he believes the RRP of the PS3 will drop in the end of January 2011.

Darn it. I had an £3 voucher email from The Hut just the other day, and deleted it (I never shop there). Wish I'd kept it now, as I'm looking for a new PS3 and every little helps. Hot.
