Really want these game are a rip off asking £124.99

These or turtle beach px5?? Price seems similar. Was looking at these but now edging to the tb's because of the "virtual" surround sound on the Sony. However I love fact these don't have a external mic so could use these as pretty normal audio headset. Might wait for price drop. These were shown as £79.99 on amazon and play a couple if weeks back but it did not clarify in the description they were the elite edition. Is there any other addition? (And they weren't last year's model).

very good headphones, comfy and great sound and the bass impact is good for games and movies, got mine for £80 when i pre ordered at play.com

So they were the elite edition then...Damn. You got a good deal.

Excellent headphones a lot better than turtle beaches

It doesn't look like there is actually any difference in specs for this and the "Elite" (which only seems available in US) when comparing on the US and UK PS3 websites. It looks to me like a difference in marketing rather than any difference in the product. A quick google shows all UK outlets having this version with the "Elite" dropped from the title.

Happy to be corrected if anyone has any further info...

No BT connection? thought that was the Sony selling point..

These will obviously murder any turtle beach on sound quality.

Seems to happen alot. I'd have bought these if I'd seen it then. Got some turtle beach things instead which suck

I got the TB PX5's in 2011 and they are awesome.

I've got two turtlebeach's (X1 and X41). They hiss like mad and have a lot of distortion, especially with explosions. Only good thing about it is that you can connect any headphone to the x41 dock to get virtual surround sound, although you can't use a mic. These sony's look very interesting. The sound quality should undoubtedly be better the the Turtlebeach's although the main problem will be whether they hiss or not. Anybody know if they are compatible with the xbox360?

got these a few weeks ago on import ended up selling them on and getting a pair turtle beach
the sony were easy to connect and comfortable but the virtual 7.1 is a bit of a gimmick the sound the sonys produced were no where as near as good as the turtle beach and also the battery life was shorter

Interesting comment - I've got the model previous to these, the original Sony 7.1 headset after reading rave reviews all over the internet, (youtube videos compared them favourably to turtle beach headsets) but haven't used them as I generally prefer my home cinema sound system. I was interested in this newer version possibly to trade up to, but not at this price.

i would honestly say if ur looking for comfortable headphones to watch movies blurays etc and play the odd game the sonys are fine,i play a lot of fps like cod and battlefield and i prefer the turtle beach as i dont get the sense of direction of gunshots or enemies approaching etc with the sonys

if your turtle beach headsets hiss, why didn't you take them back as they are obviously faulty. I have 3 sets and none of them hiss.

Have these got a Mic so that you can talk to other people on CoD?

can anyone confirm this is true?

Beware of this "virtual 7.1" talk....

These headsets are stereo.. They are fed with stereo from the PS3 and they "make up" the rear sound channels.

Headsets like the Turtle Beach are fed optically with a Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 signal. And whilst the headphones are still Stereo, the amp creates the rear channels using "Dolby Headphone" technology. So the rear channels are "real".

I have the PX5 and am not overly impressed with the quality of the audio, and have little doubt that the Sonys will be better.... But... The Sonys arnt really "surround sound" which is one of the main points of a headset.

I paid £96 for the PX5s and they are awsome.. They really are... As i said, the audio quality is a bit "thin" but as a package of features they are great... I have mine connected off my amp, so can use them for Sky, PS3, DVD, etc which is an added bonus of the Turtle Beach (or any headset with a mix amp).

Yes it's built into the headset itself so no mic boom to get in the way or break off.

Have a look at the video reviews online they explain all of the features etc.

Great headset I preordered with Play.com when it was £79.99 and I love them. Sound is awesome and easy to control from the sliders built onto the headset and my mates on COD say I'm clear vocally even though its microphone is built in the headset.

Great price of kit and 100% better quality than a flimsy PX5.

Both use Dolby virtual tech as they are stereo. You are not going to get true 5.1 magically. Turtle beach are hardly going to get special tech by Dolby over any other manufacturer in the world. It's just their marketing bs that confuses people.

No offence but the turtle beaches are not even ok for sound in comparison. These Sony headphones are based on their famous movie watching headsets. They will destroy any turtle beach. The thin sound from Turtle Beaches are mostly down to their low quality. You will get much fuller sound from these.

I have no doubt that the headphones are audibly better than the likes of Turtle Beach, but unless i am mssing something, they can never be 7.1 unless fed with a Dolby Digital source, if the rear channel info isnt there in the first place then it has to "make it up".

The Turtle Beach headsets truely offer "surround sound" and give rear descrete channels, even though thry are still "stereo".

If anyone wants a demo of how effective "dolby headphone" technology is.. Dig out a standard pair of headphones and listen to this...:

youtube.com/wat…=em

I have no doubt that sony could do the same...... But... They are only fed by a stereo feed so there is no "rear" audio included. And this is my point. The Sony headsets are fed by stero... So they can only be stereo.. And surronds has to be "made up". The Turtle Beach headphones are fed with Dolby Digital.. So they have all 5 or 7 channels to work with...

So unless i am missing something, the Sony headset could never offer 5 or 7 descrete chanels as they never had that data in the first place.

To anyone who says that you cant get Surround from Stereo Headphone, if my link above doesnt prove it, you will have to take my word.. If i play COD and stand by an object which makes sound (i.e the dance machine in the latest boardwalk map), as you turn there is no doubt that the sound moves around you and can be heard behind you.... The effect is identical to my Dolby Digital setup, but more effective as the sound is much closer to your ears.

Sayimg all this... There is one thing i am not entirly sure about. if the PS3 does the "Dolby Headphone" procesing onboard and then outputs this as stereo, then i admit defeat as the Sony would have the same capabilities as the "Dolby Headphone" headsets out there.. But after reading counless reviews, i am not convinced this is the case.... If it is, then i am chaning my PX5s for the Sonys!

Superb sound with high build quality for a cheap price!

Should I get these? I'm not really a gamer, mainly wanna use it to hook it upto my PS3 to watch movies, maybe the odd game, would also wanna hook it up wirelessly to my PC so I can listen to music, however I don't know how this wireless malarky works with headphones, would I be able to do all those things with these?

That's called artificial sound production...which software emulates and is not true 7.1. True Dolby headphones can and will emulate the same effect. Put it simply you will only get stereo out of two speakers...

I have tried the G930 and the Vengeance 2000. Both were poor in terms of quality and sound compared to my similarly priced High fidelity cans (and many other I have tried). Do some research into head phones before jumping on bandwagons.

I have not used the new Pulse headset yet, but I do own/have used the previous model (that I do like).

I am hoping to try the headset this evening, so I will let you know (either way) tomorrow.

I was impressed last night playing "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" online.

With the older headset I could tell activity from other players approaching my on-screen character from behind, but now (with the "Virtual Surround Sound" feature enabled) I can tell if they are on my character's left or right, or directly behind.

The ear cups are a little smaller than the original design & the headband bar frame across the top of the head is tighter than before due to the different shape of the headset. I thought that was going to bother me, but after a couple of minutes my concerns had gone.

The only issue I do have & this, again, may go with continued usage, is that because there are additional functions with the PULSE headset compared to the previous model, the dials/switches around the cups can be hard to locate quickly. The "Mic Mute" feature of the earlier headset is now a small button at the bottom of the left cup, rather than simply clicking the power button on the frame outside of the cup, for example.

It is a small niggle, though. If this is your first headset or, as I said, with more experience with this model, then perhaps you would not instinctively go to one area of the headset with your fingers only to then go elsewhere.

I have not tried listening to music, watching video content, connection to a PlayStation Vita (with the bundled jack plug cable; a new feature with the PULSE headset), &/or the "BassImpact" function (again, new on this headset).

Ok thanks for that. Not sure it's worth upgrading then.

Yeah even more of an insult when their own website charges 99.99. It's such bad customer service making instore customers pay a premium, no wonder they had to shut loads down to stay afloat. Wan.kers
