Analogue EPG? Shame its not DVB

Good deal though, voted hot.

I paid this for a Lite-on some time ago... Damn!

Gets a hot from me!

are upscallers actually worth the purchase?

Anyone got one who can tell the difference?

Upscalers make a huge difference if you have an HDTV as it makes normal DVD's look 'almost' as good as HD-DVDs or Bluray

Same price on Empiredirect + 2% discount code + quidco, not much of a difference but still. Price is fantastic nevertheless.

Didn't realise this or wouldn't have voted hot.

How can they make a device that's 1080p upscaling and not include a digital tuner?

Isn't this one a better deal for £89.00 - as long as you dont need/want the upscaling?

If you read the whole article it talks about upscaling DVD players aswell.

Im thinking about going for this. I purely want something to convert my VHS tapes to DVD as I already have Sky+ and a PS3.

Will this be good enough for me?

Nearly ordered... No DivX:-(

my mistake.

"What is an upscaling DVD player?
Upscaling DVD players take a standard definition DVD and "upscale" it to appear to be at a higher resolution. Despite the labels that they are "1080i" or "1080p" DVD upscalers, they are not the same as watching your DVDs in true high definition, since the source content is still limited by the content on the DVD disc itself. What you will see is some increased detail and clearer colors, however. Upscaling works best on displays with fixed pixels--namely plasma or LCD TVs. If you use them with standard CRT televisions or with some projectors, the upscaling feature may not result in a better image. It's also important to note that all HD DVD and Blu-ray players are excellent DVD upscalers."

It does have Divx. Plenty of good info on this on avforums.com

The thing about upscaling... TVs will upscale to their native res even if the DVD player doesn't. However, I have a Toshiba DVD player and Toshiba LCD TV and I have to say the DVD player does a better job of upscaling than the TV does despite it being a budget player.

Without DVB tuner it is poor really
Upscaling is over-rated, most decent DVD players can do as good job normally.

Voted cold.....got one of these in sainsburys over xmas for the same price. Initially thought it was a bargain as it upscales and plays divx, but to be honest upscaling wasnt a huge amount of difference, but the fact that this has only 1 analogue tuner, renders this almost obsolete.

Can imagine there will be a lot of analogue equipment being sold at "bargain" prices over the coming months!!

Just my tuppence worth!

Surely you should have done a bit more research before buying then?

This is actually perfect for me. I don't need an upscaler, don't need a digital tuner or a HDD.

I just bought this player from John Lewis @ £89.50 less £10 voucher code = £79.50 inc delivery and a TWO year warrenty. John Lewis also give you 4% quidco at the full price and their customer service is excellent. There is a £2o JL voucher code available til mid Feb but I used that on something else.

Ps Its an excellent player which DOES support divX.

£100 min spend though... Some blanks maybe?!?

Wish this had a digi tuner in it ... would be sweet. Probably too much to expect for the £££.

It's the same for me - the digital reception predictors say I can expect good signal sometime in 2013 so what use is a digital receiver?

Anyway who would want any sort of tuner in a DVD recorder / player that doesn't have a HDD to edit the recordings on?

Hot

Banned

does not matter if it's analogue it's the TV that need's to be digital, which already is digital if you have a freview box or built into tv, or your on cable/sky you will not be affected, just another way to make you spend your money on electronics you do NOT need

This is a bargain as it's perfect for owners of twin digital tuner PVRs such as the Humax 9200 who would like to archive some recordings to DVD. It's also ideal for anyone who wants to transfer VCR recordings on to disc and more so if you already have a digital tuner.

As there are no twin freeview tuner DVD recorders currently available, this is obviosly hot at only £79.99. Don't forget this is high quality kit and does an excellent job as a player too.

No DVB tuner moaners should put things into perspective. You'd have to spend almost twice as much to get a DVD recorder with DVB tuner and Hard Drive at this level of quality.

In 2012 for most of us - You'll probably have upgraded again by then.

Arrived today, and I'm very impressed. Nice piece of kit.
