This looks like an absolutely stonking camera. Full frame sensor, excellent lens. Very very tempted to get it myself ...

Normally £2k new afaik : amazon.co.uk/Son…0HU. Original new rrp £2600 still going for that in lots of places.

Amazon warehouse, so 30 day return and only damaged box.

Bought it for the kids, then realized they don't use their Canon 5D's very much anyway.

indeed so tempted myself, but 1.3k on any gadget is just too much (for my partner anyway). I would love this.

Same! I would but she wouldn't.

Love how Sony are trying to push forward camera tech all the time

Seems like Sony have the compact pro snapper wrapped up with the RX100 and the RX1!
What are the noteworthy competitors to these?

Fuji X100S offers 90% of the IQ, plus an integrated viewfinder and faster AF for £699 if you can't stretch to this, I had the original X100 and loved it, bar the slow AF and lack of IS

£200 cash back on this camera as well.

I agree that the iq is almost there but it's worth noting that the shallow dof is a stop less impressive on the Fuji and the camera itself is quite a bit bigger and heavier. That said the RX1's lens is bigger and the lack of viewfinder makes it almost unusable in the sun!! I think despite the bigger sensor on the Sony I'd rather have the Fuji even if they were the same price.

The both very recent Canon G7 X and Panasonic LX100 are probably the biggest competitors to the RX100 in that they occupy the came market segment with very similar feature sets- large sensors, bright zoom lenses, relatively compact bodies, plenty of manual controls etc. All three have a few pros and cons they can claim over the other two depending on what each user wants most.

As a full frame "compact" the RX1 stands all on its own- to my knowledge there's nothing close to its size with a full frame sensor short of some model of Leica. However as noted above the Fuji X100 series all offer excellent image quality with a wide aperture 35mm equiv lens in a relatively small body, albeit larger than the RX100 physically.

The X100 is lighter than the RX1, it's taller and wider, but the RX1 is considerably thicker, neither is pocketable.

440g. Compact. Full Frame....

I wonder if my wife would notice this in amongst my Canon gear!!!
(What that old thing, I've had it for ages...;))
