Also same price at Currys and Jessops...
mk2 version is old now imo, the mkIV has the 950fps slowmo
Mk2 is a brilliant pocket camera, stunning images, DON'T be put off by the fact that a newer vesion is available. Take it where your DSLR is too bulky.

And costs over double the price. The new models are better, that goes without saying, but a camera that took fantastic pictures 3 years ago can still take fantastic pictures today- the world didn't suddenly get harder to photograph.

I have used the camera this afternoon and I can only say that whilst expensive and out of date, the image quality is exceptional!
The RX100 vII is a good camera but having owned this and a G7X I much preferred the Canon G7X - which is £356 on Amazon.

Really? Got any evidence to back that up? It's still got a smaller sensor than most DSLRs. It's a great compact, but not quite at DSLR level.

photo quality is a combination of sensor + lens, so a DSLR with a poor lens might well produce inferior pictures but I would agree that most DSLRs with a quality lens would produce better photos than this camera.

Any reasons why you preferred the G7X?
It's a great camera for underwater photography too, thanks to it's 1" sensor, and RAW shooting mode. Mine's coming with me to the Maldives again next week :-). Just remember you need a waterproof housing too!
Tempting. I have the mk1 version of this which I use when I can't be bothered carrying the heavy SLR(canon 6d). It is a very impressive little camera. The images out of it are every bit as good as the SLR (to my non professional eye) in good lighting conditions, which is an impressive feat for such a compact camera. It does struggle somewhat in lower light but so long as you are aware of it limitations its a great camera.

Like previous posters have already said the small gains you get with the later models are not really worth the large price increases.
I bought this camera in Feb 2014 - it's superb. Thumbs up for the price.

Can anyone recommend a neck strap for it?

Would a Sony Alpha with stock lens be a better buy? For example the A5100 has been £299 in the past with stock lens on Amazon lightening deals.
Absolutely amazing camera just read all the reviews

I second that.

wider and faster lens, better quality raw files, better camera menu and dials. Had RX100 II, sold it and got G7X - never looked back.
Good camera, but consider the Canon G7x instead. They use the same sensor but the lens is different.

The RX100II M2 lens is F1.8 at the wide end but slows to F5.9 at the long end, whereas the Canon G7x is F1.8-2.8; same brightness at the wide end, but significantly brighter at the long end. For me this makes the G7x superior for anything but landscapes.

The G7x is pretty much an RX100 Mark 2 and a half. Better than the RX200 M2 but not as good as the M3 (which has the shorter F1.8-2.8 lens)

Superb camera but sadly out of my price range. VERY happy with their a5000 though

I had this exact dilemma. I did hours and hours of reading on this exact issue and to cut it all short - If you are never going to change the lens, buy an RX100 M3, LX100 or G7x. If you are willing to buy one or two £200 lenses get the A5100.
The faster lens of the RX100 counters the smaller sensor almost exactly, meaning at the wide end they produce almost exactly the same image quality and Depth of Field. The M2 is not as good at the long end of the lens so go for the M3 or G7x or LX100 to maintain the advantage.
As soon as you change the lens on the A5100 it takes the lead for image quality but then you are paying £200+ for an E-mount lens or compromising with an adapter and no autofocus.
These are fantastic cameras, probably the best compact cameras ever made.photo quality is almost as good az a full sized DSLR.definitely worth this price.
This is old and it's not a bargain anymore. G7X is better.
I have the RX100 MK1. I use it for normal photos like birthdays and weddings. Its amazing for its size. The zoom is terrible though.

its very good not even close to the best compacts; Sony RX1 and Leica Q (this is amazing and has price tag to match)

Right in one respect, but it's still a great deal

LOL. You really are an idiot.

Ask yourself how much the Mk4 costs? Then ask yourself what difference there is in lens/sensor size/picture quality? Then ask yourself what resolution the supposed 950fps is shot at?
i paid £500 for mine and would pay that again for the ease of use and quality pictures,i use it as a point and shoot camera, previously always had canon ixus's but the quality went down after the ixus 500
Has anyone used the evf on the mkIII? If so is it any good?

It's small, but on the scale of EVFs (which I generally do not enjoy using) it's pretty good. I still wouldn't choose it if I was planning to do a lot of action, sports or other situations which rely on continuous shooting as the refresh rate can't keep up with the shooting speed, but for composition and framing (and generally using over having to look at a screen) it works great.

Bear in mind this has a lower megapixel count for the sensor size, when Sony could have gotten on the megapixel bandwagon instead. What maters is the density of photoreceptors.

Either way you can't drop a DSLR in your shirt pocket, and this is lightyears ahead of mobile phone cameras, and other portable digital cameras.
An example of the performance of this camera, albeit compressed here. The actual detail in the original is excellent.

This sums it up nicely. I bought NEX5n a few years back but never got round to purchasing a new lens and found it bulky to carry out. Then I bought a compact HX20 which pretty much replaced the 5n but obviously at the expense of image quality. So then I decided to get a compact with a decent fixed lens.. Narrowed my purchase down to G7x and RX100. I wanted bounce flash and tilt screen so opted for the RX100 M3.

The M2 is definitely good value for money. As previously don't rule out the Canon G7x.

Asked John Lewis to price match the camera & case bundle from Wex, which they did - just picked it up this morning from them. Fill in this form quoting Wex's price and write that they have the free case included in the price and they should say they are happy to price match:

https://www.johnlewis.com/never-knowingly-undersold

This is an awesome little camera, don't be put off that there's an M3 and M4 version - the picture quality is almost identical and certainly worth the £349 outlay compared to the prices that the M3 and M4 are going for. It's also a definite step up from the M1 due to the backlit sensor and worth spending the extra £70 if you are thinking about which one to get.

That's a good deal as you get 2 years warranty at JL. You do get 5% Quidco at Wex though, which would make the price only £331.55 after cashback if you went with them.
I've emailed Sony as there may be £50 cashback. They have the rx10m2 listed for cashback but the picture is the rx100m2 Nd if you click it, 8t takes you to the 100, also they have the original, the m3 and m4 so it would be strange to skip the 2
