Seems a good price, shame I have just purchased the fuji xq1

Great camera, love mine but would love the mk4 even more!

(remove the extra w above, copy and paste into a browser, HUKD messes the link up for some reason)

You have to click the cashback link on Sony's page then it mentions double cashback

Great camera, love mine. Better image quality than any of the current Panasonic Lumix that I binned off and getting on for SLR quality in your pocket.

Me too. I bought the a5000, or I'd have had this

only 3.6 optical zoom???

Does anyone know how this compare to the Sony DSC HX60?

Awesome camera, here's a picture I took with it of my PC. Lens has bit of dust and maybe a smudge on it since I have yet to clean it properly (need a lens cleaner kit).

Great camera and great price.

My Nokia 808 too better pictures, I returned the M3, Sony's processing sucks.

The M2 for £100 more (after cb) is easily worth the extra imo.

Anyone had any luck getting JL to price match with any of the cheaper stores. I've tried photosense and ukcameras and they deny both saying they aren't like for like as they aren't high street, even though they do have a store.

Would appreciate any expert opinions on The HX 60. I require a camera with a long zoom that is light and easily portable. I do not need the ultimate quality for publication etc. I have looked at the Sony Cashback webpage and the Cybershot HX 60 does not appear to have cashback at present. John Lewis seem to offer the best deal at around £190 with 2 years warranty. Saving a few pounds with only 1 year warranty is of no interest to me. No hurry so will probably wait until cashback for the HX 60.

Asked Jessops to match cheapest price. Not sure it is a better camera than my XQ1 apart from sensor size, but just cant help myself.

I have the M3 and it takes fantastic pictures, just shoot RAW and do the processing yourself and the results will beat the Nokia 808.

The HX60 is a pretty standard Sony superzoom. I.e., the pictures will look good until you go to 100%, where you'll then see the watercolour/detail smearing effect (owing to the tiny sensor and the high MP count).
The older HX10 and 20 are arguably a better bet as they don't have such high megapixel count.

If you MUST have a 30x zoom - then it's your best option. If you can make do with a 3.4x zoom, the RX100 is a no brainer at this price.

Searching for deals on HUKD has always been difficult - You can use the advanced search and search title and description; but even then some camera deals don't include the word "camera" in the description and of course you'll pull up lots of deals for phones and laptops too...

Thanks very much - think I will wait until a good offer comes along. Your explanation about pixels and enlargement was very helpful.

looks fine for auto, probably indoors lowish light, holding camera awkwardly, possibly wide open etc
some edge softness to be expected with any lens really

how is this camera compared to the mk 3 version?
Many have said the rx100 mk 1 is just as a good for a fraction of the price?

AFAIK, there is no backside illumination on the sensor on the Mk1 (poorer performance in low light). The screen doesn't articulate. No built in EVF. The flash is better positioned on the Mk3 - and can possibly be used as a bounce flash. The 3 also has 24p cinematic mode on the video....and I dare say significantly better performance/speed.

The Mk3 is a much better camera - but it is also much more expensive.

There's a table here that lists the differences dpreview.com/rev…-m3
Mk3 is the better camera but it is more than twice the price and there are some advantages the MK1 has over the MK3.
Namely the MK1 is smaller and lighter. Zoom range is greater - 28-100mm as opposed to 24-70mm on the MK3.
They both use the same size sensor.

Held off but have now ordered, hope it is as good as all the hype that surrounds this camera.

half a cm thickness is almost irrelevant as is the 50g weight imo

the difference in zoom isn't as big as it seems as each mm at the wide end is much larger difference than at the long end

tbh with the faster lens at the long end you should be able to get lower iso so better quality leading to better cropability narrowing the effective reach

Very tempted to get this camera as an upgrade on my old Lumix TZ10 (will keep that as a pocketable back-up for the rare occasions when the zoom is needed) but is it worth paying the extra £100 for the MkII version of the RX100?

As I read that does have a backside-illuminated sensor which (according to the marketing blurb) offers 40% better low-light performance over the original.

If you go to this page you can compare the two dpreview.com/rev…/12
Select compare mode and you can add the RX100.
The RX100 low light capabilites are a lot better than most compact cameras simply because of it's much larger 1" sensor.

Yes JL agreed to match FotoSense's price of 247 but only after I challenged their initial refusal, where they claimed it wasn't a high-street shop. I responded by comparing them to GoOutdoors and said their decision was arbitrary so they backed down!

Order placed and ready for collection tomorrow!

fotosense say this :Promotional Price! Any past or current cashback offers will not be applicable as it is included in our price
so JL probably shouldn't have matched as they were already cheaper
