The Sony STR-DA2400ES is a home cinema receiver packed with features. With 4 HDMI sockets and conversion and upscaling to 1080p from all inputs, the STRDA2400ES is designed for the high definition era. Faroudja scaling ensures that upscaled video will look fantastic, even on large screen TVs.

When used with a Blu-ray player the STRDA2400 sounds fantastic thanks to its on-board decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. If your Blu-ray source won't output these signals the '2400 will also decode Linear PCM 7.1 channel high-definition audio too.

The good news doesn't stop there though; Sony have endowed the '2400 with a truly musical sound. Whether you're a fan of classical or contemporary music the STRDA2400 will give you a stirring performance full of detail and vigour.

The impressive high definition experience, excellent ability with music as well as films and the versatility offered from the multitude of connections make the Sony STR-DA2400ES a mouth watering home entertainment option. If your cinema system is in need of a bit of added sparkle the Sony could be just the amp you're looking for.

These amps are hard to get hold of especially under the £400 in black colour. Because of the weak pound many reatilers are still selling this at a higher price. A great amp What-Hi Fi 2008 Award Winner. Don't expect these to last long.

Its only £369.95 at RicherSounds … Its only £369.95 at RicherSounds !http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SONY-STRDA2400-BLK

Richer Sounds almost certainly have any.

Gets COLD from me because:
1. The statement that AV Amps are hard to come by is utter nonsense.
2. This is not the cheapest (as already stated above at Richer Sounds)

Well spotted. Love the cut of this amp's jib! Thanks to OP for bringing it to my attention.

If you can find it in stock, richer sounds always have a short supply. Been waiting 3 months for my local one to get them in.

Hot deal will take a punt for the extra £20

Actually, Richer Sounds have none in stock... tried to buy one from them and the closest store that had one to London was Middlesbrough. That store only had one in stock as well when I called and none of the other stores had any idea if they'd get any new ones. Same with the Sony stores. They have 0 in stock anywhere in the UK apparently and don't look like they'll be getting any more in.

For those who just want the Faroudja scalingand dont need AMP look here

I don't think AV receivers in general are hard to find - but this particular model is VERY hard to find..... my Bro and I were looking for this for ages, and finally got it off Play.com last month for £379.

Heat added

av amps are very hard to get at the mo, and the new lines coming this year will have very different pricing if u can find a bargain now buy it.

Highly recommend this amp - bought it last year from Play - great value for the money.

dca860: You have no idea what you're talking about, you've rushed to a cold vote without any reason.

GOOD LUCK if you can find this item ANYWHERE for less than £400, I was looking for 2 months, Richer Sounds do not have a single one in stock ANYWHERE.

ive been looking for a sony ddwg800, and can't find it for less then £310 even though there was a previous price drop to £245.

this is gonna make me sound like a complete fool but i am new to av receivers so was wondering how would i get this to work with my current setup of Samsung LE32 LCD (Its 1080i) and PS3. Would i attach the ps3 to thr reciever and get 5.1 surround sound, and upscale to 1080p, when playing dvds/blue rays? and how about attaching ipods etc
What else would i need in terms of cables and what reasonable, £100-200, speakers would go with it.

thaks in advance

thanks

From Richer SOunds website: -
"Stop Press; With the availability of AV receivers from the big players (Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, Sony, Pioneer etc) being pretty poor recently, we are excited to get the first of the new Onkyo receivers arriving into our warehouse this week, as well as cracking deals from Harman Kardon and Denon which if not in your local store already will be "winging" their way to a Richer Sounds near you soon. Check them out."

I have an older Sony 550ES which I hope to upgrade soon.
I hope to get somethign with internet radiom dlna, and ethernet.
Shame only the ultra high end Sony's seem to have this.

These do sound good and only Sony's support The Sony Digital SOund System I think which although old still sounds good.

Read the deal

He said THESE amps are hard to come by and he's quite right.

And as for being cheaper at Richer Sounds, they have no stock in any of the ones close to me and haven't had any since Christmas. I was lucky enough to get it from Play for £370 just after Xmas but £390 and in stock is a great deal and likely to be the last chance.

Yet you decided to vote cold? Some people ...... :x

I work for Sony Ericsson and these have been out of stock in the staff shop for ages - most stuff is in poor stock at the moment. I think that Sony are concentrating on selling their gear in countries where the currency is not so weak as they make more on the sale.

When I phoned Richer SOunds in Bomley yesterday they sai dthey had none in and the main RS warehouse had none either.
My local Sony center could get them in but cost £530. A display one they would do for £450 no lower.
Superfi in Camden had a display one and at reduced costs was still £440.

You can buy a cheap budget one still no problem or a mid level one with poor reviews and not great makes or a high end one for about £1,000. Sadly the decent mid level ones (Future proof) are gold dust at the moment.

Yeah Richer Sounds have none so they could advertise them at a tenner and it wouldn't make a difference.

I've just bought one from Amazon as I've been searching for one for a while now.

Gone up to £449 now

Basically all the entry level recievers with HD Audio decoding are hard to find (£300-£500) at the moment. But the main players are bringing out there 2009 models soon (yamaha and Onkyo I have read up about) and will be releasing new models into this price point. So if you can wait a couple of months the options avaible may well improve significantly.

I think you'll be able to get an equivilant product for less as HD decoding is becoming more common and obviously price of manufacture is coming down. The Onkyo 506 for instance didnt have HD decoding but the soon to be released 507 does and is coming in at the same price point.

--DB.

£450 now. Shame really since this is the AVR I was planning to get very soon! Might as well wait for this year's models now.

the c*** price just went up as I was putting my order in

shame.

lambda-tek.com/com…533

Was going to suggest these, but they are a little more than you want to spend.

Cant believe how much they have gone up in price. I bought them for 175 quid, this time last year.

Weak pound etc etc i suppose.:x

If I had like £700 to buy some speakers for this unit, what would you suggest? (im realise that its not much but I dont have more, im a poor student :?)

No dis-respect to you but I suggest you look at the market. Richer Sounds have been out of stock for months and this was available at £390 delivered which was a very good price. When stock at Richer Sounds eventualy does come in I would like to see if the weak pound rates means that it is still at their advertised price?

There are many people in the hunt for a mid-ranged AV receiver and the Sony 2400ES is among the best against the competition from Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha etc. At that price it was well worth it in my opinion against those like SuperFi who are selling it at £440 and have stock.

It's shame that the price has gone up but for those who ordered it when it was going at £390 got a good deal and know it. Many retailers also suggested after christmas prices would be rising and they were right. That's why I ordered mine from Play back then and they ran out of stock quickly. This is a great amp and I have it paired with my Genies and am loving it(!)

Thanks majnu, this was a great spot. Just about ordered in time at around 11am and will be taking delivery tomorrow. I tried my local Richersounds at Maidstone and they had sold out a while ago.

I also managed to order in time, but as yet my order is showing as "dispatching soon". Has anybody's been sent yet? I did actually sign up for Amazon Prime which gave me one day delivery - it should have arrived on Saturday. As the order is due to be dispatched, I can't change the address - I'd put my home address, if it now ships to arrive Tuesday or later, I'll be at work :-(.
