Great price, I bagged one of these at this price 2 months ago and I absolutely love it!
Have my turntable plugged into it via the Line input and it sounds amazing when listening to stereo music, but even more amazing when watching a 4K bluray with Atmos!

Looks like there are a couple in stock.

Yes it does have 4k upscaling: …Yes it does have 4k upscaling: https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdn108/v1/en/contents/TP0001221251.html

Just 4K pass through is mentioned in the description. My AV amp automatically upscales HD to 4K , this gives a much better result than my TV 's own effort

Can this be used in a quadraphonic configuration? (No centre or subwoofer.) We don't have space for more speakers, we have 4 working at the moment but the amplifier is on the way out.
Do these have any speaker packages recommended for them (Sony ones) or is it best to make your own with another brand? I’m thinking about atmos setup.

Yes connect as little or as many as you want
I have my Onkyo 7.1 system without the sub fitted as I live in a flat and I would get evicted if I had the Sub fitted

Probably. You can normally select which speakers are present and if it is has room correction and equalisation it should auto detect which speakers are there and offer the correct listening modes. It is an unusual setup though so I'm not sure if it'll be supported. Probably better just to get a small centre speaker you can sit above or below the tv...
Looks a good deal but I can't see any mention of Dolby Pro Logic 2 support? It might seem odd but I still use my Nintendo Wii occasionally and that has brilliant surround support via Pro Logic 2.

Snap!

We're currently using an 99p from eBay Sony STR-DB925, which has got me absolutely gaming with surround sound (stream from PC to HTPC.) We've only a small flat though, so little choice re speakers, and absolutely no possibility of a subwoofer etc. The DB925 is on it's last legs, cutting out every few minutes, and the lack of HDMI hookups has now become a big problem.

Anyone ever have any problems getting a refund off centres direct. Sent for one of these and hated it. Currently waiting five weeks for a refund off camberley sony centre.

That would just spoil the sound, to be honest. We're really lucky with the speakers we've got and the phantom centre is just fine as is. The STR-DB925 we have allows for this configuration (basically lets you say whether each speaker is present or missing and it adapts as appropriate.) There's no detailed lists of menu options in user guides these days.

A-ha. Found a clues in the online help-

"... If you do not use the subwoofer, the front speakers are automatically set to [Large]."

".... There is no center speaker."

Suggests it should cope okay with that configuration.
Nice find but none available

It actually does do 4k upscaling at 24p but it's almost always better to let the TV do it.
Pretty sure this Sony supports Bluetooth headphones too.
Not bad for a budget receiver. but no stock

Why did you return it?
kcajjones06/07/2019 08:59

Why did you return it?

It seemed a bit flakey when changing inputs didn't like the gui. Wasn't a patch on the onkyo tx-nr686 which I also had at the time but I didn't like accueq. Finally settled on the denon AVRX2500h. When running I thought the sony was a bit hot as well. The onkyo was cool but hated the switching sound everytime you changed Inputs. The denon runs hot but audyssey
audyssey seemed to be able to set my room up better so I settled on the denon.
But bear in mind the trouble I am having receiving a refund. First two weeks they said they would lift it which they didn't so I returned it by myself. Now for the last 3 weeks supposedly they are waiting for a credit note from Sony before I recieve my refund. I don't know my next move except to phone them every couple of days.
No stock
Just a word of advice for people here who really want this amp. This sold out hours of this deal being shown here... I contacted Sony on that day and they said they update their website stock on Thursdays and would be getting the amp back in stock.... I've spent ever morning since checking and today by chance after a few refreshes throughout the morning it appeared and it's on its way (24th July).

So basically if you want it just keep checking, they'll put them on as and when they're available... Looks like I got the only one today!
This is back in stock, just managed to place an order
