Thinking about getting this bundle. Seems a decent saving. Anyone got experience using these speakers with this Sony amp?

Yer mate it's working now cheers
i have the amp, which is great, but i have it running floorstanders and the centre speaker is basically the same as a floorstander cone and tweeter wise, and the rears are bookshelves bigger than the main speakers in this offer

to me it looks like an imbalanced offer. a powerful amp and small speakers. the speakers in themselves may be ok but it's like getting a high end UHD player and plugging it into an aldi £150 telly. to get anywhere near the benefit of that amp you would need much better speakers. alternately with those speakers i'd suggest a cheaper amp unless you want that amp specifically and want a starter set of speakers to upgrade later, but then you are paying more and paying twice for speakers that way

I have to agree as I have the Monitor Audio Bronze (old model) surround speakers with the Sony amp and use the Bronze FX rear speakers so I get good rear surround sound from a 5 speaker setup. I use the front floorstanding speakers as the subwoofer as I do not have enough space for a subwoofer. This mode can be set on the amp.

In any case the setup on this deal will still be a good improvement over a sound bar, and maybe just the right size in a smaller room. It is still possible to upgrade the speakers one at a time.

I would look at reviews and maybe use secondhand speakers, but do your homework first. We use our surround sound every day and would not be without it.

Good advice thanks, I had also been looking at the floorstanding package from the same range - Q Acoustics 3050i. An extra few hundred but it looks awesome in walnut and would really compliment our living room. It has a what hifi best buy.
You guys still think that package is not doing this amp justice?
The QA speakers would be fine in a smaller room but not so much in a bigger space. It's biggest issue IMO is the subwoofer, if I was spending £1000 on an amp and speakers there's just no way i'd choose a Q Acoustics sub, they make good speakers but have never made good subs.

For my money i'd go for something more like this :

Denon 2500H ~£350 but likely to drop under £300 very soon with new amp models releasing
BK Gemini II sub refurb (blows the QA out of the water) - £211 ebay.co.uk/itm…542
Then spend the rest on speakers and using floorstanders for the front L&R, going second hand £500 would get something very nice

Cool, thanks. My front room is only 4x4m (new build) so I am not looking for something that will blow the roof off, just something that has excellent quality and dynamic sound. I also want to use it for stereo music from time to time with streaming from tidal hifi.

I've seen folk say the Sony is better for music but still not as good as a Yamaha for example (or even a seperate stereo amp plugged into preouts) but neither the Sony or the denon at that price have preouts.
I don't consider myself an audiophile as such, at the moment I have a pair of B&o S3 speakers for music but the pairing of them is temperamental as hell, hence looking to sell those and consolidate into a good av/hifi setup.
My current surround is a 12 year old Sony HTSS1100 which has served me well but only has spdif inputs, quite annoying in this day and age.

What about these Floorstanders?

I'm not sure if this would help but I've Sony older model amp (1060) and older q acoustic speakers (1030i) front, 1010 at rear and centre and sub. My room size is about 16sqm and for music yeah obviously there is a room to improvement, but movies rocks! This amp is not that demanding for speakers. And there are plenty of options to try while setting this up. Its worth asking in the shop if you can have this setup for tryout. Good luck!

You've just demonstrated a very common mistake, your large speakers are probably easier to drive than these smaller ones and actually need less power to drive them.

The important comparison is sensitivity, decent quality larger speakers tend to have a sensitivity of around 90db, small bookshelves are often 87db or less and 3db difference needs twice as much power to drive them at a given volume.

The only thing wrong in this system is the sub, you need something like the one @Zooicidal mentioned or preferably one of their larger models and you'd have a system that would wipe the floor with a lot of floorstander/ no sub systems.

Don't want to hijack your post, but I'm moving to a new place and living room where TV will be is 7x4m (it's not 28sq m as kinda triangular so it's 23sq m room).

Any of you guys got a good recommendation for av and speaker setup? Budget no more than 1k. Tia.

Obviously this is the £10 argument where you are obviously wrong but won't give up so you can get your money's worth.
Finally a decent brand AV receiver deal and not that poundshop Onkyo rubbish.

no, this is the one where someone reads and misunderstands something then wrongly accuses the person of saying something they didn't say, even when that person posts a comment that suggests they may actually have similar views, but just doesn't realise it
Fantastic
Went into richer sounds and ended up paying a lot more and going for these speakers exceptional-av.co.uk/dal…wcB they did a price match.
Got the Sony 1080 receiver for £279 refurbished from Sony centres direct

Tried out the Q acoustics set with this amp with some sample flac files from my phone. Jesus it hurt your ears how piercing it sounded with the insane treble! Good for smashing glass scenes no doubt but bloody hell.

The Dali ones on the other hand, are amazing. Very well balanced sound, warmer and better bass.
I tried monitor audio bronze 2 and they were well rounded but the bass was overpowering.

Also tried 2 other units with the same sets of speakers, including Yamaha 635 and onkyo nr686.
The Yamaha was warmer than the Sony but nowhere near as dynamic, detailed and "fun" sounding as the Sony. It sounded very flat. Again the onkyo was a step up from the Yamaha in terms of liveliness and balanced sound but ended up going back to the Sony. It does still sound a bit bright on some tracks but for that I'll just need to use the eq to remove a tiny bit of treble.

TLDR;
Go into the shop and try the kit before you buy online!

Jeez, you can't deny you said a powerful amp and small speakers is unbalanced, I then explained that you are in fact wrong as the exact opposite is generally true!

Hardly a similar view.

i said that, but it's only your OPINION it's wrong. not a fact

what is a fact is someone said they tried the speakers and found them to be - well read what they say in the post above. they ended up buying what in their own words they described as - well just read what they said instead of taking my word for it. long and short of it reads to me as if the speaker and amp isn't a well balanced match in my opinion, and the speakers they did get are quite similar to what i use

Lol, what you said was your opinion and it's wrong, although, as I said originally, it is a mistake that logic would imply is true and why so many fall for it.

I didn't share any opinion, I explained how speakers actually work which is a fact, whether the poster liked them or not is completely irrelevant, I was trying to correct your misguidance. Might be worth you doing a bit of research on what speaker specs actually mean before trying to 'help' anyone else.

@3LeggedDog, you've got a decent set of budget speakers there and I'm sure you'll be happy for many years From what you described it sounds like the guy in RS didn't know what he doing so may have been more luck than judgement but that had nothing to do with the size of the speakers or the power of the amp
you're wrong again, but nevermind
Don’t buy Sony! My 1050 has just popped after 3 years of use! Plus Sony stopped supporting the app after 18 months.
