Even cheaper than July's voucher price. Great AV receiver which is well reviewed and won multiple awards.

When it comes to power the latest STR-DN1050 is as impressive as ever. The Sony is capable of outputting 165W per channel at 6 ohms, allowing a great flexibility in the choice of speakers that you can use and having the ability to fill larger rooms comfortably.

This 7.2 Sony receiver is also able to be used in bi-amp mode. With the channels switched to 5.1, bi-amping gives separate amplification to your front speakers' bass and treble units (bi-wirable front speakers required). HD Digital Cinema Sound is a Sony developed technology designed to recreate the acoustics heard in Hollywood sound theatres. Utilising this mode with the front height channels gives a greater depth and accuracy to the sound. Imagine as a helicopter comes from above and lands, you'll hear the change in height as the movie unfolds on-screen. With 4K the horizontal pixel count of 1080p TV increases from 1920 to 3840.

The HDMI sockets also allow 4K pass-through, for hassle free switching and viewing without the receiver needing to be turned on. With Ethernet and Wi-Fi built-in along with support for Apple's popular AirPlay and NFC Bluetooth the Sony covers all networking bases. Additionally, you can stream music via DLNA from other sources such as your laptop or NAS drive. In addition to passive and active zone-2 audio outputs, the Sony STR-DN1050 features a Zone 2 HDMI output. 6 HDMI inputs are on offer to ensure that you can connect up all of your devices, with one front mounted HDMI port for occasional use such as connecting up a camcorder or games console.

In addition to this, you'll also find a front-mounted USB socket to which you can hook up your iPod or iPhone. If you have compatible BRAVIA Sync devices you can also control them all with one remote.

Saw this last month but I now live in France. Strange that delivery states Uk only yet it also states they deliver to Europe.
No HDCP 2.2 for 4K content but very good specs for the price.
Surely there is a discount code out there somewhere? You can usually get 7-15% off outlet products.

Nope, I've been on the lookout for a code for a few weeks now. Hopefully they'll have a September code.

Doesn't seem to be. It's usually on the front page of the outlet. Even so, this price is actually cheaper than the July price with the July voucher code.

I've been holding out for a code before seriously considering getting this because it was £299 new on Amazon and at other places. I then put the Amazon price (when it was 299) through Bespoke and with ~15% Quidco/TCB it would've worked out at around 239.
hmm...looking for a 4k upgrade for my Onkyo 608....not fussed about HDCP2.2 as I don't spin discs this is a nice price...

Tempted.

That would be a cracking price for new. I went for this in July with a code and it worked out around £250 ish. Really pleased with it so far. Sounds great. Huge improvement over an oldish Yamaha it replaced.

Not true, he looks at womens underwear also?
I paid £290 about a month ago for new, but that was about the best price back then. Good amp overall, I've found I had to increase the individual speaker levels though otherwise the volume was quite low
Any suggestion for speaker package to pair with this amp? Also any idea how it will be compared to Onkyo HT-S4505 system?

Caved in and bought, despite the lack of HDCP 2.2....
be careful with the sony outlet, their customer service is atrocious, i've had a faulty tv now which they are refusing to replace. They are offereing me a upgrade model which is vastly inferior, i told them I just want mine fixed or replaced or refunded. I didnt want the 955 model. They said no problem that's your right and we'll send you the 905. They sent the 955 which i refused on my doorstep and now they are telling me they can't refund and can't replace.

not sure where to go from here.

I didn't have a great time with them a few months ago either. Very poor obnoxious couriers and terrible communications
Three in a row

Had to send the amp back from the last deal on here as all the accessories were missing.. prepare to spend ages speaking to offshore call centres if you have a problem.
I just missed out on the last batch, bagged one this time, thanks for the post.
Had to cancel mine - noticed it's too deep to fit in the cupboard beneath my TV. Grrr!

When did all Sony amp becomes 329mm deep?! My old one is 316mm.
dont mack me off

My story is so long i missed some out, they replaced the TV initially with the exact model but it had so many dead pixels on it that it was unwatchable and also the picture was washed out. Been passed from pillar to post in their outsourced call centre. They never pass you through to a team leader, they tell you he will call you back in 1 hour but last time it was exactly One week !!! Their manager sent me 20 pounds as a 'goodwill gesture' but that only covers the costs of my phone calls. I'm still without a TV, it's cost me a lot more in time off from work, fed up with this company, i've been nothing but patient and nice with them. I'm going to phone them tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind.

PS the courier they use are also hopeless. They didn't show up on the correct day which was tuesday(Even though I played back the recorded call on my phone and the lady said tuesday on it, they denied it and said it was definitely wednesday) I record all calls on my phone via ACR Call recorder automatically

My second unit arrived today (purchased for a friend), seems brand new, just like the last one, other than the remote which was rattling around the box. All works though.

Judging by Onkyo reviews in the past few years not being Onkyo is a good thing.
Sony - very cold - avoid at all costs - horrible customer service.

I don't own a Sony currently..although have pretty much owned all major box shifters aside Onkyo...Marantz, Pioneer, Denon, Sony and Yamaha...and the reason I don't like Onkyo has much more to do with their past unreliability, design preference (find the design ugly) and poor reviews when it comes to sound quality....ok with home cinema, poor with music.
When I phoned up thursday as usual the 2 people i spoke to hadn't a scooby do, I had to repeat my entire story to both of them then the guy said they would get someone to call me back in 24 hours. Still waiting... Time to call back again tomorrow to go through the same rigmaroll, I can't believe how bad Sony have become. I have been buying from them for about 30 years because they were always high quality and a good price. I would have snapped up this receiver but I can't afford for it to go wrong with these clowns in the customer service centre.

Sound quality much better then Sony - won't argue about design. Denon and Yamaha are better but more expensive. Onkyo - value for money.

Not had a problem with Sony Outlet myself, was more than helpful with the Z2 clearance a couple of months ago with the discount code not working.

Problem with modern electronics is they are not really designed to be repaired. As you've already agreed to a replacement then by law they don't have to give you a refund, they can quite legally offer you their current 'equivalent'(even if it actually isn't) model I'm afraid.

Did you pay by credit card by any chance? If so speak to them as liable as Sony for putting it right.

I have one of their operatives explicitly saying "It is your right to refuse other models" on the phone, i've got everything recorded too.

It's the fact you've agreed to an exchange tho that's bogged you down tho mate. Consumer law is a right royal PITA at times, I'd get in touch with your local CAB to see how to take it forward as every case is different but I'll tell you now that they have a lot of laws that protect them too that will make this difficult if that's what they want to do.

Good luck.

Yes mate I agreed to exchange the model like for like. That's what I wanted because it's a great TV, but the model above gets terrible reviews everywhere and uses a inferior panel, thats why i refused the 'upgrade'.

I always go with Richer Sounds to avoid this kind of hassle. Incredible customer service, and a 5 year warranty for 10% of the purchase price which is fully refunded in the last month if you hadn't claimed.
As for your issue with Sony, tell them you'll take them to the small claims court. Most sellers tend to settle before the case goes to court.
Can you have different inputs going to the different outputs simultaneously?

Or is it 1 video in to 2 out.

I'd like to have my digibox go into this then to TV.
Plus have my computer plugged into this and 2nd HDMI out going to monitor at the same time.

Only 1 sound active though of course.

From what has put me off Onkyo before...they run hot, chipset and HDMI problems, ugly design, known for being better with home cinema than music (I use my receivers 70% for music) and reviews on their mid range receivers in recent years have been far from stellar in comparison to the competition. The rival TX-NR636 does have Atmos upgradibility going for it, so yes I would agree that Onkyo always provide value for money if number of inputs and features float your boat, but over the years, time and time again there is always something that has put me off in comparisons to any of the other box shifters within the mid range market, so time and time again my money has always gone elsewhere....although admittedly I have had a Yamaha go bang on me just 8 months into owning, and a Marantz centre channel crap out.

- Rarely do you see reviews within the mid-range receiver market whereby sonically they excel with their rivals, the TX-NR636 continues this trend in comparison with this Sony.
- Problems in recent years with their chipsets overheating.
- Problems with the HDMI boards in 2009-2012 models (kudos for Onkyo for admitting and offering to repair the products, but does not instil faith from myself)
- Personal taste, but design finesse is not their strong point.
Amazingly good deal. I tried the Onkyo 636 and went back to this.
