I picked up the same one 2 weeks ago from Richer Sounds for £317 new with a 6 year warranty.

If you're looking for a sub £1000 Surround Amp then go for this, you will not be disappointed.

The range of digital connectivity is first class and the sound is detailed and not fatiguing in any way. I used to be a Yamaha fan but this Sony has been a revelation!

Don't hesitate if you're in two minds!!

One last comment, the remote is simplified so download 'Songpal' on your phone or pad to get easier access to the extensive functionality.

V hot!!

No HDCP 2.2...

how's the Onkyo NR828 compare to this?

Dolby Atmos?

Good point that could be overlooked

Dolby Atmos?

No, however even without HDCP 2.2 and Atmos, this is a steal. An incredibly highly rated amp getting top reviews when released a year ago at twice this price. I have ordered one.

I have this amp and the sound is incredible. There is one thing I can't figure out, my older sky HD box which doesn't do Dolby 5.1 over HDMI is plugged into the sat input and optical from sky to the amps optical input. Now, the amp prioritizes the hdmi over optical and will not give me 5.1. If I were too plug the sky HDMI directly into the TV and bypass the amp then it will revert back to optical and I get 5.1. I've tried assigning the optical input but it refuses to recognise it when it has a choice between the hdmi & optical.
Any suggestions folks?

Does your old Sky Box have component connections? Could use that and the optical out. You won't notice any difference in picture quality as SKY only sends 1080i anyway. (Can't remember now if they ever have had component)

I agree it looks great value, but I'd want my amp to last at least five years (probably more) - and I think I'll be fully 4K'd up in that time.

Have you set your sky box to output via optical rather than HDMI?

Dolby Atmos?

Kinda a moot point unless you plan on keeping the amp longer term. There aren't many atmos source discs and you've got to bolt speakers to the ceiling. It's a nice concept, but to implement it is a big job!

I did aswell. I also got some Boston Acoustic speakers because I wanted small satellite speakers. I'm really happy with it for under £500.

Is this no longer £299 from Richer sounds. Has the price gone up?

Mikeygolfgt

how's the Onkyo NR828 compare to this?

who?? ;D

ordered, but offer needs correct link wasnt easy to find outlet store

1050 and 850 are discontinued with the new 1060 and 860's released RS have the 105 new for 349 quid and has some ex service stock of the 1050 for 313 quid [take a further 10% off for vip membership]

between the 1050 and the 850 I would take the 850 as long as you dont need music from a second room and component outputs cos the 850 have none

Scorpion

Have you set your sky box to output via optical rather than HDMI?

Haven't got the option of HDMI as it hasn't had the latest HDMI update, so it is set to optical.

So £313 is now the best price with 6 year warranty?

What speaker package would go well with this? Tannoy hts101, q acoustics 7000i or dali zensor 1 5.1

I believe £313 has one year warranty, you need to add £31.30 for six year warranty to that price.

Edit: Just checked, richersounds.com/sho…tml. £313.95 with one year warranty, 10% off this for VIP, but then plus 10% for the six year warranty so about £311 with six year warranty (assuming stock local to you).
Edited by: "nige182" 24th Jul 2015

No 313 less 10% for an ex service model..................349 is the price from RS and add a further 34.90 if you want a 6 year warranty...........If you are happy with a 12 month warranty the Sony outlet deal is the best.

damn, i still have my 850 waiting to be hooked up, paid £250 for that from richer sounds a couple of months ago

Does the height measurement of the unit include the antenna?
Edited by: "rbjim" 24th Jul 2015

Anyone with one, what's the 4k upscaling like? does it work from sources such as sky and talktalk boxes and are there any requirments e.g hdmi 2? Sorry if these questions are weak, i don't have much A/V game.

have you got you tube? search on the model there are some decent reviews
