”The Sony STR-DN1080 stands out immediately – it sounds fantastic.” ‘What Hi-Fi? Sound & Vision magazine’. Group test winner and 5-star review. Tested at £550.

A new dimension in sound with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X
Dolby Atmos uses ceiling or upwards firing speakers to produce a multi-dimensional, immersive sound that's a match for the finest cinemas. DTS:X literally pushes the boundaries of what you can expect from home cinema. It renders images in three dimensions that conventional processing can't match. It also easily adapts with your existing speaker configuration.

Optimised for 4K UHD and HDR
The STRDN1080 features flexible HDMI connectivity on all six inputs and both outputs. It supports HDCP 2.2 and HDR which means you can play UHD Blu-ray discs and stream UltraHD video in the highest quality. It's also equipped with 4K upscaling, giving you the most detailed picture on your 4K TV from all sources. The HDMI sockets allow 4K pass-through, for hassle free switching and viewing without the receiver needing to be turned on.

Powerful, enveloping sound
When it comes to power, the latest STR-DN1080 is as impressive as ever. The Sony is capable of outputting 100W per channel at 6 ohms, allowing great flexibility in your choice of speakers and room size. The Sony STRDN1080 uses a solid frame and beam chassis for vibration resistance and the lowest sound distortion possible. It also uses specially selected components, fitted with ES grade solder, for class-leading sound quality.

Bi-amp for superior sound
This 7.2 Sony receiver is also able to be used in bi-amp mode. With the channels switched to 5.1, bi-amping gives separate amplification to your front speakers' bass and treble units (bi-wirable front speakers required). The end result gives tighter control and a wider, more dynamic sound - both in stereo and surround modes.

High-Resolution audio compatible
As well as offering room-shaking power, the Sony STRDN1080 is also compatible with High-Resolution Audio. This offers a sound that's far more natural sounding than standard audio. The STR-DN1080 supports DSD 5.6MHz decoding via USB and network connections.

Google Chromecast built-in
Chromecast lets you stream music, podcasts and audio apps, including Google Play, at the touch of a button. Having it built-in saves the battery life on your phone as the phone's Bluetooth transmission system isn't used for this purpose. Being able to stream straight from the cloud also gives the best audio quality.

Bring your music together with Sony SongPal
Download SongPal for your smartphone or tablet and take control of your music collection. Simply connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and you'll have seamless access to all your favourite tracks, whether they're stored on your PC, server, or online music service. The app can also be used to customise sound settings to ensure great, balanced audio, and control multi-room listening.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with NFC and Apple AirPlay making streaming a breeze
With Ethernet and Wi-Fi built-in along with support for Apple's popular AirPlay and NFC Bluetooth the Sony covers all networking bases. NFC via Bluetooth lets you effortlessly sync compatible portable devices with a simple swipe of the unit next to the special remote. With AirPlay you can stream music from your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or iTunes along with compatible music apps like Spotify, straight to the receiver.

At home with the most sophisticated systems and TVs, the Sony STR-DN1080 is at the hub of home cinema magic.

"For such petite speakers, we were blown away by the big and confident output of sound." What Hi-Fi Sound & Vision magazine.

Superior satellite speakers
The Monitor Audio MASS satellite speakers are every bit the full-sized speaker, just scaled down. Rather than using inferior components, Monitor Audio uses its hi-fi quality drive units, such as the C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminium Magnesium) tweeter. This has an extended frequency response that stretches right up to 30 kHz, beyond human hearing. Lower notes in the audible range aren't compressed downwards or harmonically compromised, giving a treble response that's smooth, sweet and detailed.

Impressive woofer
Matching this refined tweeter unit is a similarly impressive woofer. The highly developed C-CAM bass and mid-range integrates smoothly with the treble to give life-like vocals and a natural response. Another technically impressive feature is the woofer fixing. Rather than being bolted to the front baffle, through-bolt construction ensures isolation from the main cabinet and hence a less coloured sound. The result of all this impressive technology is an exceptionally spacious and natural sound quality.

Powerful yet precise subwoofer
Providing power to match the control of the satellite speakers is an equally impressive subwoofer. This sub uses two units b one is actively powered, while the other works in an ABR (Auxiliary Bass Reflex) role. This gives added weight and depth of sound without needing a larger cabinet. It's powered by a 220W Class D amplifier, ensuring tight bass control at all times.

Sleek good looks
With their classy, silver-brushed aluminium caps, gloss back panel and wrap-around speaker grilles, the MASS satellite speakers make a smart addition to any home cinema system. The sub takes a similar shape and is comparatively slim and compact by subwoofer standards. Over all, this is a very unobtrusive 5.1 speaker system.

With class-leading sound and style, it's not hard to see why the Monitor Audio is the What Hi-Fi "Best style package £600-£1000" product of the year.

Soo tempted, ugh but then just remembered the 11mnt baby and 3yr old toddler who scratched my Quad speakers. no more surround sound for me, might as well invest in decent headphones, heat added for the deal and thanks for listening to my woes.
