Yet another eBay code deal but I was holding out to see this back in stock at Hughes and snapped one up today as it was in stock and low(est?) price. Great reviews. Speaker suggestions most welcome!

Great price but I’d be hesitant to upgrade to ATMOS until it had at least a few HDMI 2.1 ports
Was about to buy a Denon AVR-X2500H which is also £350. Which of these amps is better ?

I would pick sony for sound quality
I use the monitor audio mass 5.1 system and two monitor audio ceiling speakers. Sounds great. Voted hot.
Love mine, made a big difference to a (then) similarly priced Denon from 2006.

Paired with some 2006 HKTS speakers, does a great job (these have been available for good prices on here recently).
Thanks for the suggestions. I am using Jamo A102HCS5 5.1 Speakers which have served me well for years. Might upgrade if they dont do the new amp justice.
Same this vs Denon avr2500h??

I would pick the Denon (I did) the Sony is obviously very good but it's not better than the Denon they are very similar but have slightly different sound which I prefer the Denon it's more detailed and less harsh than the Sony to my ears, I also prefer the calibration from the Denon to the Sony receivers.
stick it with the B&W 600 series you wont regret it oh and a couple of rel 200 subs.

Don't suppose you have a few grand you could give me? 😏
Had bit of a google and I'm leaning towards the Denon AVR-X2500H. Will probably pick one up from the shop tomorrow. It's been several years since I last had an AVR but recent TV purchase has made me want good audio now as well.
Thanks also waiting for it to go down

Sold my old Sony 1080 last month to replace it with this Denon... very happy with the swap. My TV is a Samsung B6 and the software on the Sony just didn't work well with it. You'd turn on the amp & TV, start watching something, then 20 seconds later the program would stop and a Sony menu would appear. Back to back programmes on iPlayer would sometimes cause the TV to get confused and show a black screen whilst the audio continued.

No idea if the issue was with Samsung or with Sony, but there's lots of similar stories out there about this amp, and Sony haven't updated the software in a year. The Denon has been flawless since day one in comparison.

TLDR: Hardware is great, software holds it back - buy the Denon.

I’ve had my DN1080 for about a year and am still blown away by it. Movies sound amazing and it is just as good for music. Highly recommend this mate

Pushed the boat out and went with KEF Q750s at the front, Q650 Centre and Q350 rears. Ci160’s in the ceiling....sadly now eating baked beans for the rest of my life to pay for it all(popcorn)

A real great setup. All that deserves a much better AV though (in my opinion). One with more oomph. If you push yourself a bit, you could live off stale bread and water.
Having owned one of these for a while now I have to say there are a few too many flaws with the day to day operation to recommend. It does sound great if you can live with it though

Lol brilliant! I’ll get into the wife’s bikini yet this summer on that diet! I’m after a projector and screen next but av receiver upgrade will no doubt follow in a few years time
Stick with a trusted brand like Onkyo.

I have the Sony and completely agree with you. The software is a let down. I don't want to go to the home screen every time the AVR starts. It's quite annoying and can't be disabled.
I reached out to Sony and they confirmed this is the expected behaviour.

Definitely the Sony. Sold my denon on ebay this is much better. Ask Richer Sounds to price match for warranty.

From my understanding reading online and talking to Sony is that this happens only when CEC is enabled and Sony blame this on the CEC implementation and not as a fault. As I use Hdmi ARC, I can't turn off CEC.

I am using the latest firmware. There is a thread on Sony forums with multiple people reporting this and no way to fix.

Nope.
Decided the Denon AVR-X2500H was the best bet. Picked up from the shop today and set up with my "Q Acoustic" speakers. Still have to run the Audyssey set up but it's all working fine including Dolby Vision from my Apple TV4K.
