Great price for this 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player. It includes shipping and taxes. It will be region 1 for DVD and region A for Blu-ray, but most people wouldn't watch DVDs with this and most Blu-rays are region free, with all 4K Blu-rays being region free.

Was just looking at this (albeit refurbished) - there is a 20% voucher as well bringing it down to £113.94 inc delivery - so tempted and no faffing with US Amazon delivery etc?

Genuine question, what does this have over simply buying an xbox s? BF prices are pretty much the same...

Unfortunately the Samsung is not a universal disc player and has had poor reviews in comparison to the Sony. Plus, I'm not sure there are many people that want a curve, and the remote is tiny.

The Xbox One S sounds like a jet engine when playing discs, which is very distracting in quiet scenes. Also, it has had trouble playing several discs.

I was looking at this Sony as it's the best player in 2017. However, went for the Xbox S option. But at this price, had it been a month ago, I would have bought the Sony!

Just buy an Xbox one S

And wear headset for Dolby atmos...even better

i have the samsung uhd player and its an excellant player with great picture quality. i only paid £99 for it though. i wouldnt have paid £200 or more for it. it can be currently bought for £147 with 5 uhds which is still a great price. the remote is tiny though and that would be my only gripe about it. most of the unfavourable reviews originate back when it was a £399 player and compared to the oppo or pioneer its not quite as good. at the £100 mark its a decent uhd player and there have been plenty of updates and tweaks since those early reviews.

there is a multiregion firmware that makes it region free. which looks like theyve applied to the one in the bargaincrazy link above.. normally they sell for over £200 with the custom firmware. so for £113 including delivery that really is a bargain for a multiregion player... only warning is that the firmware is potentially older than the uk firmware. so bug fixes and tweaks might be missing. plus it would be risky updating it in future in case it loses its multiregion capability.

edit *just looked at the link and its not the multiregion version. so its not as much as a bargain as it looks. zoom.co.uk have brand new ones cheaper plus the 5 uhd deal too. theres also a 20 percent off code i think. *

the curve is a personal preference. i dont notice it at all. its black and sits on the shelf under the tv and cant notice its curved at all.

the xbox one s is an ok player. noisy drive as mentioned. plus it would use more power so not as eco friendly. also no proper remote unless you buy one etc..

between the samsung and the sony theres not much in it. brand and style preference really. youd have to have them playing side by side to notice any kind of discernable difference in picture quality. looking at 5 stars for the sony and 4.5 for the samsung.

£161 is a great price for the sony uhd player. its still £279 to £329 most places so heat added for the price.. downside is itll only play region A blurays/dvds. it may be possible to flash it with a uk firmware and turn it into a uk player.. would be worth investigating..

Oh I wouldn't go that far... I wouldn't personally say it's that much louder than my old Samsung BR standalone br player...
And had no issues with any discs I've put in mine.

I had playback problems with the UHD disc of The Martian on the Xbox One S, jumping constantly. I googled it at the time but forget the reason why it was happening! I would agree that it's noisy too. I want one of these and very tempted with this deal but for the region A playback of blu-rays. Means I'd have to keep my existing player for dvds (rarely watched admittedly) and ordinary blu-ray. It's a good £100 cheaper than anywhere I can find though

Do you have to pay tax on it?

If it's from Amazon.com directly usually their import duties deposit kicks in, so you won't get hit by custom fees when it hits the UK. The order breaks down like this:

Order Summary
Items: GBP 118.23
Shipping & handling: GBP 16.76
Total before tax: GBP 134.99
Estimated tax to be collected: GBP 0.00

This is really tempting. But delivery at that price is 4th December

Cold, the region lock on standard blu ray discs is a hassle. Also, there is no guarantee that future uhd blu ray discs will be region free, potentially making this an effective brick.

Almost pulled the trigger on this one. UHD disks are region free and there is an agreement to stay so. But there is no such agreement for Blu Rays and DVDs. Nice catch!

I dont know about this 4k player but the xbox one x is good at blurays. However when i tried playing a wedding video on bluray (probably not relevant to you) it would not play it. My PS4 played it without a hitch. The wedding video is not a home video but one made by professional video company.

If you look at the technical manual (which is on the Amazon link as a PDF) it says that this player’s power supply only supports 120v (the standard used in the US, as opposed to the 220v used by UK and Europe).

If if this is accurate and you plug it into a UK socket using an adapter, well, you’re probably gonna fry the player.

You you could use a stepdown converter but those are apparently noisy and unreliable, so I’m gonna send mine back.

Right now with warehouse 20% discount you can get a very good condition x800 for 213 pounds. I got a boxed like new with everything in it's plastic including the free 4k film for 216. So there is no point in taking the chance.
