This the normal price (except for the free blu-ray reader), so not a deal as such. Its a shame they couldn't have sorted out better battery life on the E series. I like how sony have made the 14" the most expensive as the 13-14" is the most popular size for laptops, very clever. I love the mental green one, though by the time I spec it the way I want it its knocking on the door of better class machines.

Wow, that looks amazing.

@Adidas Addict - are you sure this is the normal price, seems cheap for a 14" vaio of this spec.

Would there be any way to install Snow Leapord on this? Tempted to replace my MacBook, it looks that good!

Well as far as I know its normal price (sonystyle usually are, but with free extras every now and then, like the blu ray reader seen here). I think the only place the 14" is available is direct from sony so far. As for the price, bear in mind the E series is the bottom of sony's range and the build and screen quality aren't as high as others in the Vaio range. That being said they are pretty sweet looking (if a little chunky in the flesh) and the specs are good (especially when you up the processor to the i5).

sonystyle.co.uk/Son…b=x

Should work

If you drop the hard drive down to 320GB and up the CPU to the i5 2.26 its only £659, worth doing that IMO.

I've changed the link

Its possible to downgrade the 500GB Hard Disk to a 320GB one and save another £40, making it £609 for the following spec:

•Intel® Core(TM) i3 Processor
•Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium
•Green
•320 GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm)
•4 GB 1066MHz DDR3-SDRAM
•Blu-ray Disc(TM) player
•35.5 cm LCD, 1600x900 + webcam
•English QWERTY keyboard
•ATI MobilityRadeonHD4570 512MB
•1 AC Adapter
•Wireless LAN + Bluetooth®
•HDMI(TM) output
•Battery life up to 3.5 hours

Bargain if you ask me. This beats even the new Dell Vostros for value for money.

What is the warranty on these, 2 years?

EDIT: 1 Year on this model as it has Win 7 Home Premium... sony.co.uk/hub…ces

Great deal, my trusty Sony CR120E has lasted 3 years of uni so I can't recommend their 14.1" model enough!

Have some heat.

I just returned from the states and bought this version in the blue with a 15.5" screen and it looks the dogs balls...!!!...also got a coloured keyboard skin which transforms it to look even smarter...cost about £550....4gb ram...500gb hdd....no blue ray though ......

The 15" is better bang per buck but I don't like my laptop to be any bigger than 14" preferably 13"

I thought I would jsut warn you regarding my Purchase.

I ordered the 15" E Series in March. Came in April. Have had a number of problems with it:

Wireless Does not Work with the lid closed - Big problem if you use an external monitor like me

Wirless Chipset (Atheros AR9285) may be fauly as I keep losing network connectivity

The graphics card (Ati 5650) seems to have some sort of a problem - stutters when decoding HD Video such as Blu-Ray, and the Vaio Control Centre Tests Fail

Enormous, and I meen enormous amounts of CPU whine on the i5-430M especially on bats.
I got in touch with Sony and they told me they would repair it but it could take up to a month (it goes off somewhere into continental europe - belgium I think). Needless to say I was not pleased and managed to haggle with Sonystyle and get a refund.

Its going back next week for a refund. Simply put, Sony's build quality is not what it used to be.

Im looking for a replacement within a similar price - any ideas?

Thanks,

Chada

I'm very tempted as I want a reasonably compact machine with a BluRay player. What is the battery life like, anyone know in the real world, not just official figures? Thanks

been really tempted with this for a few weeks just can't seem to hit that confirm order button, even more tempting with the free blu ray upgrade on at present.

You and me both, the only thing that's really been stopping me is seeing it in the flesh. I'm gonna pop into a Sony Centre tomorrow and see if they have one I can play with.

Disagree - I've had a W-Series and NW-Series VAIO in last few months with no issues at all, can't fault them. Sony are a good brand IMO.

can the keyboard colour be changed, can you get back light / led keyboard upgrade or whatever you call it.

Unfortunately no backlit keyboard option on the E series (they have to keep some stuff for the higher models with this being the entry level model).

Sony makes coloured keyboard skins for the 15" & 17" versions so I would expect them to come soon for the 14"

Thanks mate, might take the plunge, this runs out on the 10th, I'll see if a good Dell deal comes out with better specs by then, if not, I'll buy this.

After trying to find UK sellers of the Sony Keyboard Skins, having no luck, not even on the sony site.

The part number for the 15" version is

VGP-KBV3/G (the G is just the colour).

Edit: For anyone wanting the 15" skins there's a very good japanese seller on the bay, though considering they are $19.99 in the USA they seem a tad expensive:

Looking to buy mine with these specs this week, not sure if I should go for the white or black version hmm 3-4 weeks on delivery is a long wait.

Does anyone know if this version comes with a multi-touch trackpad?

Black or White? Sheesh I'd be having a hard time choosing between the green or blue :-D

I would get green hands down!

Yeah its my favourite. I can understand some people thinking it makes them look 'toylike' but hey, I'm shallow like that and love it lol.

Obviously if you use it for work and meetings acid green may not give off the right image :whistling:

I'd pretty much decided on the black...then you posted those pics above and I must say I'm rather tempted now with the green too!!!

Think I'll have to see one in the flesh, but those pics do look good!

I would use it for work lol, It makes you stand out and looks really sleek, a executive feel almost.

Green looks awesome, but I'm woried it will be hard to sell on! If I decide to get one will probably have to be sensible and go for the black one.

jrussd;8510556

Yes they all do, but I don't think the VAIO multi-touch trackpads are as advanced as the Apple ones.

Booooo, way too sensible :-D

Awesome laptops. As already said though, it's a shame the battery life is so poor. Best value on the market but sub 2 hours battery life kinda takes the shine off.

Agree, stil hot though!

you reckon these are hackintoshabubble anyone???

i seem to read alot of people complaining about current vaio build quality...

There seems to be a lot of problems regarding battery drain with a lot of vaios including the E series.

I have the Sony CW series and love it to bits.
