there are more... that one seems to be on the top of the google search. Since youtube, I think people just prefer to put their complaints on there.

So is this laptop not good? Seems a really good price for a sony and an i5.

Obviously this is a 64bit version with core clock up to 1058Mhz and DDR3 900Mhz memory, however this laptop run very cool so you can overclock GPU no problem.

I have to agree about the customer support. It is easily the worst I have ever encountered. There is a complete lack of communication between everyone involved at their end. They never call back when they say they will and the whole process is far too slow. They've had my computer for over one month (longer than I have!) and there is still no resolution. I hope I never have to deal with them again.

Just for the reference, my experience with Sony: terrible customer service

the one i'm using right now is s-series from Sony with i5-3210 4g ram, however, it is quite slow even i just use it for internet searching (regular uni research stuff btw) and screen often frozen, looks like a faulty product. After contacting Sony several times, the replies are all the same "to reinstalled all the system" even I told them i have tried, the problem still occurs, it still came with the same reply. I think they are just doing automatic reply. and now you know the result, i still have to use this rubbish.

I need to buy a laptop and this configuration sounds fine for me (or the HP mentioned above). I don't game but I need a good screen quality. Which laptop do you think has the best screen quality? I'm ready to buy so would appreciate some advice.

Here is another SONY victims, I bought the VPCSB series, with 2nd gen i3 and AMD 6470m graphic, 4G ram, the system is very slow even just out of box. The wireless signal is poor. I tried to contact their CS and they were not willing to swap the product. For laptops, better avoid SONY!

Took me a while to get used to it but now I much prefer it. It is better on a touch screen but is still perfectly fine on my desktop

I'm pretty sure his remark was geared towards the aesthetics of the interface rather than the functionality, which I would agree with him on, it's horrible.

Another x Sony Vaio customer...sorry to pour cold water on your deal ,which is not bad...but their customer service is a complete sham!

Its a good configuration for a very decent price. And its a SONY.
As a bonus comes with 2 yr warranty.
Customer service varies person to person and depends on how u handle a situation.
For example if my internet signal to laptop is slow, I can ask sony to check the card. if its not fixed show it to them and they will fix it. If a computer is slow it can be due to multiple reasons and they wont swap a laptop for it.

Personally I have both Sony and Dell laptops and both have their share of problems and good customer service. So I would vote HOT for this deal

(Actually my vote is with Arriva Customer Services but luckily they don't manufacture electrical goods; just entries for the Booker prize masquerading as Bus timetables...)

Sounds like Sony CS is poor and that devalues the product; just imagine what they would be like after the 12 mths warranty has expired..

Can't find the Hp mentioned above for anywhere near the price of the Sony. Anyone know of any good deals for it?

That was exactly my point. The dedicated GPU is significantly more powerful than the Intel GPU. Obviously it is faster, but when you factor in the cost, heat, power usage,it's not really worth it. Also it's only really capable of 1366x768 (which this display is)resolution or below, due to being 64bit, unless playing fairly older games. Saying that it will play some not too old games at the lowest settings.

You need to re-read. I mentioned that there were two models of this card, this is the inferior of the two. Try to read more slowly, it may help.

I bought this laptop back in January when it was on offer.
Unfortunately I had to return it as it had lots of WiFi disconnection problems.
If you search the model number on Google you should find lots of other people who have had similar problems-apparently it's a hardware problem for this particular model.
I did keep it for a couple of weeks in the hope that the WiFi issue was not down to the laptop but had to return it in the end

Customer Services were great on the other hand and had no problem sending out TNT to collect for the return.

IIRC sony is getting out of the laptop business and will soon stop making (not sure about supporting) laptops.

I find these posts odd. apparently sony beat apple to the top spot of the 2013 customer service showdown;
blog.laptopmag.com/tec…013

would I buy a HP over a sony, hell no!

Contact the retailer - anything over 14 days is not acceptable on something that was under a month old. They need to replace it ASAP

Try to read more slowly? What's your problem you condescending idiot. I know my laptops / gpus and all I was saying was nice to see a benchmark. Starting to dislike the attitude on HDUK especially when it comes to IT and people who think they know their way around tech.

Completely agree. Sony quality has decreased a lot. They are not reliable. Back in the age when they produce the bulky TVs, they were so good. But not now.

Sony used to be fashionable, premium brand, and they charge a premium over their products and I believe they still do that. But I do not think the underline quality is there anymore.

Had two unhappy experience with the brand.

Bought a full HD sony TV for over £600 pounds. Only come with 12 months manufactury warranty. Broken in 15 months. Contacted sony. Sony want to charge over £150 for sending someone to come around to have a look. And any parts need to be replaced will get charged on top. Eventually, sold as broken for £100.

Bought a sony 1TB hard drive for £60 while other brand was £50. Rarely used it. Only used few times. 6 months. It stopped working for no reason. Returned to Currys for store voucher.

In recently years, Panasonic is definitely the better Japanese brands for electronics. I have found their products have good performance and excellent durability. And I think more people are aware of this point and the brand is getting popular. Panasonic also started selling more expensively than other brands, especially TVs.

As for me, I will never risk to touch anything produced by Sony.
