Word of warning. There's a common problem with the charging circuit on the motherboard on these. I have one in for repair at the moment and it "should" still be under warranty, but Sony are denying that it's a common fault. It's the third one I've seen with the same problem and I've been made aware by the owner of the one I currently have in that it's already had to go back to Sony about 12 months ago for the same problem.

Not voting. Just making people aware.

i wonder what gen of cpu it is, i.e. its model

im going to guess previous gen as it has windows 8 not 8.1 (8 is easily updated to 8.1)

Most places appear to imply that the SVF1531C109 is an i5-4200U so current gen.
I'm guessing the "W" is because it's white?

And actually, that matches the spec (320gb / 4gb / GT 740M)

Isn't this problem just related to the battery care program in vaio control center which needs to be turned off?
It's an okay laptop but it feels a bit flimsy. The space bar key is not seated properly at one end on mine and looks like it could pop off, I'm dreading dealing with sony customer services to fix it.

Voting cold cos sony phasing out their laptop operation and u can get something decent and brand new for a little more money. The only unique selling point was the HD screens they were offering on some configurations.

Nope, it's a fault that occurs on the board. It can even repaired, albeit with mixed last-ability. Sony "should" recognise it and offer extended warranty but they won't. I'm probably going to have to play the "Sale of Goods act" card with PC World (where my customer bought it from). I'm giving Sony a week to respond to my email, but I'm not expecting much.

Same laptop in Black is £589 new on amazon, I got a refurbished unit from amazon warehouse for a similar price a few months back its got a NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M graphics card and had recent games running at med settings, its very fast and a really nice machine, Great value for money and you wont get anything with these specs for the money, it has space to upgrade to 8gig very easily to as it comes with a single 4 gig unit of ddre memory and has an empty slot for a second one.

I don't think its flimsy it feels nice and solid and I'm really happy with it and vaio isnt been phased out the brand has been sold on.

I don't understand why this isn't hotter?? It's a Haswell with a dedicated graphics card for just over £300.

So sure, it has 4gb memory and people would ideally have 8gb if gaming or whatever, and the storage is a little on the small side, but these things can be upgraded if and when you need them.

Hot from me.

Bigger hard drive seems to make a lot of difference to the price, even on the Outlet site. If I was sure it came with a GT 740M then it's a very good deal, but I'd like to know 100% first.

I'm intrigued. I justified the fact that I believed it was 4th gen.

Where have you seen it being 3rd?
