Had a quick search for this and couldn't find it posted. Can be ordered now for stock 17/06/10. Even though the processor is the old line it's a quick one and, except for the slow hard drive, it's a good high spec machine. I must admit i've never owned or used a Vaio but a lot of people swear by the superior build quality and usability (enough to pay the couple of hundered pounds they tend to be over other similar spec laptops). I would imagine building a similar one to this on Dell would be at least this price anyway. Personally I think it's a great looking laptop too. General spec list below.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
16.4 in. WXGA++ (1920 x 1080)
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz 3MB cache
6 GB (DDR2 SDRAM 800 MHz)
Serial ATA Hard Drive 500 GB (5,400RPM)
ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 4650 (1GB)
Blu-Ray Drive: Read Speed 24x (CD) 8x (DVD) 2x (BD)
Write Speed 16x (CD) 8x (DVD+R) 8x (DVD-R) 4x (DVD+R DL) 4x (DVD-R DL)
ReWrite Speed 4x (DVD+RW) 4x (DVD-RW) 5x (DVD-RAM)
Intergrated Bluetooth
Intergrated "Motion Eye" webcam
Wireless b/g/n
1 x SD Card Slot, 1 x Memory Stick Card Slot, 1 x Memory Stick PRO, 1 x Memory Stick DUO, 1 x Memory Stick DUO PRO, 3 x USB 2.0, 1 x RJ-45 (NIC), 1 x HDMI
3.3 hour battery life
3.19 kg

Thanks

EDIT: Just for comparison, the same machine with only a 512MB graphics card, no blu-ray and a lower res 17.3" screen is £989.00 on dell.com (It doesn't offer the corresponding upgrades for those bits).

I don't know how you can say that it's bad value; the CPU is the last generation but it is one of the fastest one in that range. The RAM is already 6GB, it's upgradable to 8GB and the hard drive is upgradeable too. The graphics card is excellent, it has a blu-ray drive, large high resolution screen, wireless 'n' and intergrated bluetooth. And you're getting the construction and design of a Vaio, which is undoubtably superior to most others.

Seriously, I challenge anyone to find a laptop with all those features at a price like this. ;-)

The P8700 ranks faster than the i3-330 or 350 - it's also has a 25w TDP so should give decent battery life. The GPU is nothing special; but should play all but the most demanding games at low or middle settings.

This seems a LOT of money; maybe if you want a VAIO with a full HD screen and Blu-ray this is what you need to be paying.

Not as cold as people are making it, IMO. At least someone is looking for Full HD screens, thanks!

If this had a slightly better GPU I would most likely buy one of these. I used to own a Samsung with the P8600 in it and let me tell you, it blows the i3 and i5 away. So I expect this 'old' P8700 would also. Just because it is older doesnt mean it wont perform.

The biggest let down in the latest Sony Vaio's is the amount of bloatware installed, and the slower RPM hard drives. But nothing a clean install wouldnt fix!
