This is a very good deal imo

USB3
1080p Screen
Backlit Keyboard
128GB SSD
i5
Dedicated GPU

Doesn't look too shabby, no. Think (from quick search) max memory is 8gb, which isn't great for me personally, but otherwise...

That's what i thought. Wish i could get one but i won't be able to until January. Christmas presents come first atm.

Yummy. Heat added.

I think this was in a stock clearance a while back for £399

Tymondo. Doubt it!

hot just because of SSD?
i got a dell inspiron 17rse last week, same price
-3rd gen i7
-6gb ram
-17.3 inch 1080p screen
-2gb nvidia card

a lot better value for money imo. however, to each one his own.

Hot deal, if this was the 13" i would have snapped it up.

Just a quick note this is a 2nd gen i5.

Thanks for that, it's got a good spec but looks quite thick, I am looking for an ultrabook preferably, I know the S series Sony's are named as ultrabooks but are quite thin and may aswell be.

Heat

bigger ssd and i'd bite

This is Sony. Not Dell.

Have a quick dekko at the dell outlet store. They've today got some really good refurb xps 14 ultrabooks in. Great specs and a big saving on new. If i had the cash i'd get one myself.

uhm...NOT.

what are these laptops like for build quality though? I had a sony laptop before and it died within a year just after the warranty

kunyk

uhm...NOT.

While Sony build better laptops than Dell in terms of quality, it is not enough to simply dismiss the difference in specs between those laptops. People would always go for better core components (such as CPU and GPU)...
It's a decent deal anyway, heat added.

Last Sony laptop we had overheated the GPU just after the end of its warranty and they wanted £200 plus shipping to fix it. Crap cooling system design didn't help. We have loads of Dells in the office and they are very reliable. I wouldn't touch a Sony again.

each to their own, I have owned may Sony machines and many Dell... over all I prefer Sony for build quality, but they are more expensive... but I've had good and bad of each

2% quidco

The links dead now no?

Probs would have gone for this if it had a blu ray drive to take advantage of the decent screen or a slightly larger ssd

1080p on 13er inch?? oO

Good job if you're trying to prepare to make spec-savers rich permanently!

15.6" 1080p and ~2kg.... don't think there are many laptops that combine these attributes. Hot!!
Does Sony pay Quidco/TCB cashback on these clearance models?

I have had few laptops in last 12 years, Sony is the worst and costliest , keep away.... My 1100 pounds laptop didn't last 1.5 years, screen speaker , battery had to be replaced within 1.5 years.. No longer SONY quality.

If this is built like the SA series with dedicated graphics you got to watch out for the loud fan and overheating.

only saving 600 quid - i saved over 800 quid on the one i bought last year from sony outlet!

looks nice

Fantastic price. My vaio is a very similar spec and set me back around £800. Definitely hot.

Excellent price....had my eye on one of these. Thanks op.

Grabbed one of these. Thanks very much OP

Don't expect any driver updates after a year. And you won't be able to use generics. Thus speaketh Sony.

Ok for the money, heat added.

Would personally want better GPU if it was my money, but I'd be prepared to spend more to get it.

RE: Sony Vs Dell, Sony are ok, but they are highly overrated, there's not much between a Dell and a Sony at this price point.

It all depends on what you want, some prefer a larger screen, some don't, if your not going to play games then the gpu won't matter. Some prefer Sony, Some prefer Dell, what's the problem.....

Exactly its all about preference, a 17 inch laptop in my eyes isn't considered a laptop, you may as well get a desktop PC as it that big. But others may prefer that size, whereas some may prefer smaller size screens.

Specs aren't everything, there are i5 CPUs (quad core) better than i7 (dual core), there are graphics cards with 1GB of RAM that are far better than some with 2GB, and pretty much no-one wants to carry a 17" laptop anymore.

Comparing simplistically like that will mean you end up with a piece of **** laptop built for spec comparisons.
