Looks good to me. Size, specs & aesthetics.

One of the best ultrabook. It's not convertible. Great price

Working on one right now, lovely Ultrabook, very good price.

Fantastic laptop.. bought one during the the Christmas offer from Sony with a 8Gb Ram and 256Gb SSD upgrade, which is very well worth it as 128Gb goes up fast.

Shame its 4GB and 128GB. Would have jumped at it if it were double on both.

Such a nice laptop. Parents might kill me if i buy it lol

Nice ultrabook but 128gb SSD is pitiful. What didn't they throw in a hybrid SSD/HDD? Hardly more expensive.

Looks a great machine, however good luck finding one, none anywhere near me, heat added all the same

Because the onboard SSDs fail so easily. I had hybrid solution on my Asus ultrabook, and the internal SSD failed, so now it takes about 6 mins to boot while it searches for the iSSD.

Fair bit of cash for a so so machine. Dell were doing the 11" version with 2560x1440 screen for £650 I think in refurb store. Seems a better buy for me

That's nothing to do with the technology. You just happened to get a lemon.

Would make it more heavy thus killing one of their USP's.

128Gb is hardly "pitiful" anyway.

I've got the 256Gb (212Gb usable) for work, and I've got 134Gb free space. SSD's teach you not to install every last piece of random useless software you find.

For that price, logic would tell you to just go for a Mac on the refurbushed & clearance section, Cant even begin to say how much better off you will be !!!

... Why don't you try?

This has the MBA 13 beat on speed, price, size, weight, screen and materials. Matched in memory and storage. OS is merely down to preference.

I suppose the MBA does have the extra benefit of being smug in Starbucks when you whip it out to post on facebook though.

Reason why it's cheap:

Following a recent global review of Sony’s current product line-up, it has been announced that Sony is to sell their VAIO PC business to a new company established by Japan Industrial Partners (“JIP”).

As a result, manufacturing and sales of VAIO will be discontinued in all Sony Online stores on 21st March 2014.

Not an impressive spec for £800.

I'm not an Apple fanboy (I don't own a single Apple product) but if you're spending this much might as well get the 13" one they do for £900 via student discount and get it on 0% finance.

Material still feels cheap, windows feels clunky even with the great specs this machine has (unless you embrace the metro ui, but then you will have to get used to everything again, which I guess is the same if you go Mac, I'm still getting used to that).

OS is down to preference I guess, but I'd recommend the Macbook root. The amount of money I lost struggling to sell my Dell XPS 13 only 4 months after buying it was ridiculous. I do not think you will have the same problem with a Macbook if you decide to sell it on in the future.

pity sony dumping their products now though

Gorgeous piece of tech but worth pointing out that the speakers are incredibly quite and there's a bit of flex on the keyboard, other than that I'd jump at it if it had a teensy bit more memory.

Here's a tip:

Buy £750 in PC World/Currys Gift Cards at Morrisons to buy this Laptop.

They have an offer, for every £10 in Gift Cards you buy, you get a 1p off per litre fuel voucher. (Details here)

Buying £750 in vouchers will give you a 75p off per litre fuel voucher.

Assuming the average tank will take 50 Litres, you empty the tank and top up the full 50 Litres - you'll save £37.50 on Fuel with the voucher.

If you drive a bigger car with a 70 Litre tank, this voucher will save you £52.50.

That seems incredibly risky, given that there seems to be very few of these models actually available.

An alternative scenario to yours is:

Buy £750 gift card
Get Morrisons fuel voucher
Realise that the laptop is not available anywhere within a 300 mile radius of you
Spend £50 in fuel to drive to the nearest branch with stock available

Or:

Buy £750 gift card
Get Morrisons fuel voucher
Realise that the laptop is not available anywhere within a 300 mile radius of you
Find yourself stuck with a £750 voucher which you don't really need/want any more

Given that there's no way of reserving these while you go and buy the gift card (it's Order & Collect, not Reserve & Collect), this wouldn't really seem like the smartest advice, I'm afraid.

Great bit of kit, very reliable having owned a predecessor for 5 years of solid use. Got the i7 version of this with bigger HDD a few months back. Can't fault it.

I think you're exaggerating quite a bit.

Both your scenarios are resolved by checking stock of a store before going to collect the gift cards.

The only risk is the store selling it within the 10mins it takes you to run and buy the vouchers, for me on both occasions they've put the items aside for me so that couldn't happen.

I guess it's personal preference, but to me it's a risk I would take in order to save £40-£70.

Speakers are only quiet if you leave them on the default ClearAudio presets.

They're plenty loud enough if you change the setting to Custom 1 and set a flat EQ curve.

Part of me is relieved there's no stock, or I'd be in a spot o' bovver!

Still want one though. Heheh.

Still in stock in Milton Keynes. I was tempted to buy this, but I think i'll be wasting my money

Hybrid HDD's are very juicy, I replaced a 256gb in my asus ultrabook with a seagate 1tb Hybrid and my battery life went from 9 hrs to 5 hrs.... Switched back and back to 9hrs again

Anyone got an O2 priority code?

Have a look online though, the Sandisk i100 has a very high failure rate

Anyone know of this has space to add another hard drive along side the ssd?

amazing price however be warned about the fan noise, questionable amount of bendiness in the frame, and poor wifi reception (even after the bios update was released). New laptop range coming in April so this is a clearance price.

@edwardlau88

No chance, these laptops are tiny

Just been in John Lewis they have the same laptop on clearance at the same price

I thought this was good value however yesterday i was in the Sony outlet in the US and bought a Sony Flip 14, 14" 1080p screen, which flips into a tablet mode, 11hr battery life, i5 etc etc for $949 and had 10% off which brought it $890 with tax etc.... A smidge over £500.... Now that's good value

Obviously no good to most as it's in the states but pointing out how us brits get ripped off with very poor deals

Haha well I was in Hong Kong a few months back and trust me, you don't want to know how cheap laptops and smart phones are over there.

This is in PC World Glasgow Finnieston ex display at £700. Noticeably laggy when using which surprised me but may just be the ex-display model, the guy said it would have been on constantly for around 8 months! Decided to pass but if you really want it it's there.
