Not bad this is £749.99 everywhere else BUT...

There is the new version with newer Intel Core i3 Processors in released tommorow so these are a little outdated now, never the less quick and well built but as with all technology out of date as soon as you buy it and may come down in price again.

Does it have optical out?

Just an HDMI out

nice enough laptop but i think if your in the market for that sort of machine its best to hold out for i3/i5

The best price I found for the new versions is on the Sony website. You can also choose your own configuration.

Don't think so, i picked up a w11s1e and nw20ef each for over £100 less than sonys website in late 2009

Thing is on the website the newer version of this has the 310M and not the 330M, I dont know why but the configurable ones dont allow the GPU to be changed, anyone else noticed this?

Change the screen option to the higher resolution one and the gpu will change to the 330M

Ahh thanks Mau. With 4GB and the better screen/GPU this comes out as £739.00, this can be beaten by quite a bit although nowhere has them in stock yet! Official release date is tomorrow.

P.S. I'm referring to the newer model; CW2S1E

id never buy another Sony, too much concentration and appearance than actual parts..

Everyone I know who's had a Vaio has had nothing but problems. Probably not this exact model, of course, but I'd just be wary of getting one personally after everything I've heard.

What is an LCD screen with LED technology, it's either one or the other isn't it?

Would never recommend a Vaio or an Acer. Price OK... not voted.

It's an LCD panel with LED's acting as a backlight instead of CCFL.

It's the exact same as all those so-called LED TV's on sale at the minute, they're all just LCD's with LED backlighting or edge lighting.

nice price, but looks a big bugly no?

Top spec?

This ok if 2 things matter to you: 1) you want bluray 2) you want a Sony sticker. I actually went for the studio 17, size doesn't matter, i5-540m cpu, 4gb ram, ati 1GB 5730, 500GB 7200 HD - which is pretty solid for £700 + 5% quidco. For me bluray isn't that impotant.
Price might come down some more as i5s & i7s start to become the norm.

It has an LED backlight inside of the LCD display which means it consumes less power, gives better picture quality and the manufacturing process is better for the environment.

Having owned one of these, I can say its a nice laptop, nothing wrong with it other than the amount of bloat Sony insist on installing!!

However, if you dont need the bluray drive and extra HDD space, I would wait for the newer one with the i3, it has the GT330 graphics aswell,

Currys have the new i3 in stock for £699 at the moment, im waiting for play to get them because they are showing £649!

Argos will be stocking these very soon also.

Instead of using a fluorescent lamp for the back light it uses LED's

Power savings and better colour contrast

Sorry I voted cold - I really do not believe these specs represent good value for money.

At this price I'd expect an i5 at least. Way cold.

Had one of these since just before Christmas when I picked it up for the same price as a manager's discount at John Lewis. Excellent laptop that feels solid and well built. Point well made in an earlier post about the Sony bloatware, although some of it is quite useful depending on what you use the laptop for. A little time spent stripping out some of the dross (McAfee, Office 2007 trial, Works, etc) can make it run very quickly.
Having said all that, at this price point you should really be expecting an i3 and a bit more graphics muscle and I would understand anyone voting it cold. Can't bring myself to do so though ...

I think I agree with you, had some bad experience with Vaio and Acer in the past. But which brand/model would you recommend then ? Thanks
