Product overview

This highly portable netbook is just the job if you want connectivity and performance on the go. Looking good, it features an isolated keyboard design, bright, textured plastics and lush, curved edges. It's robust for travel, and at 1.2kg in weight, portability isn't a problem.
Boasting a 10.1" screen with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, it's as sharp as it is easy on the eye. LED backlighting means vivid colour reproduction, while the widescreen aspect ratio is perfect for watching movies as you while away your commute.
With an Intel Atom N280 processor and 1GB of memory built-in, this netbook is best used with single applications - although it can handle multiple applications at a reduced rate. 160GB gives you plenty of room for storage, while battery life is just under 3 hours, so you've a good amount of time before needing a mains socket.
A fitted mic and headphone jack are found on the left, alongside a VGA-out port for connecting to external monitors. On the right, there are two USB ports and an Ethernet adapter, with a Sony MS and SD card reader to the front.
Connectivity is via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, and pre-loaded software includes Windows Media Player, Movie Maker, VAIO Media Plus and Office Application Adobe Reader 9.

Bargain at £249, considering it was close to £400 at launch. I paid £279 for mine in Octover and have been very pleased with it, the high-res 1366 x 768 screen makes quite a difference, and its built a lot better than most other netbooks with a great quality chassis and keyboard.

Sounds good - better resolution than most if I'm not mistaken?

I sell netbooks and this can't touch the samsungs for spec

Well your obviosuley not very good at selling netbooks and should perhaps find a new career path. Other than battery there is nothing the boring and common Samsungs can do that this VAIO can't, and you have ignored the fact the VAIO has a 1366 x 768 screen considerebally better than the cramped 1024 x 600 that every other netbook has.

I have an NC10 and although would not consider the above due to 3hrs battery (I need 5-6hrs), the Samsung is currently falling apart after only a year of heavy but careful use.

4 stars, not bad then:-D

I would have bought this if I didn't buy my current Asus 1008HA netbook because of the build quality and screen resolution alone. Heat added.,

LMFAO!

i dont know why anyone wouldnt pay a bit more and get a much faster laptop.

I have the 15.4 inch version of this laptop...and i want this, although i wont ever use it...
I guess i'm just a sucker for sony...

as far as perfomance goes, would there be any difference between this and my aspire one ZG5?

Got a Medion Akoya with 250gb HD, and Windows 7 for £259 on Thursday but more important, THREE year warranty. Otherwise I may have been interested in this
Oh and the Medion has a 6 cell battery, 8.5 hr battery life too. (Gloat ;))

very good price, typical netbook spec but you do get the high res screen, like others have said it did retail from £350-£400 so hot hot

Bargain!

I'd really like one but I am holding off buying anything without Windows 7 on it.

£259, :w00t: I'll have some of that, where from?

battery life is poor and cant be upgraded to 2gb..better netbooks out there

I think this is a bargain, the key is the high-res screen which makes all the difference. I've got used to a smaller screen and it is a good pay-off for the portability I get.

Apart from battery life the speakers make the sound 'tinny'
otherwise it's very nice.
I don't think there is much stock anywhere

Most likely Aldi.

Well my netbook must be a rarity because it aint a "VAIO" but does have the 1366x768 screen, it's an Acer Aspire one 751h.

1 gb ram aint enough in 2010+these r pants with the basic battery installed !!

I think I am gonna go for one of these. Just going to call and track down local stock. Cheers.

Would put the extra money to it and get yourself a decent netbook, poor memory and battery these are netbooks for beginners

I'm not very tecchy so I reckon it should be fine for me. Just email and web surfing. Seems like a good brand and a good price..which is about as far as my knowledge goes.

Er no. Battery life is fine, no worse than any other 3-cell netbook. Mine has been upgraded to 2GB, took me about 10mins to fit not that hard.

my mistake can be upgraded to 2gb,

anyone actually brought one of these at this price?

Ive checked Telford and Shrewsburys stores and they dont have any.

Seen em a few weeks ago in the M/Boro Sainsbury's but they were still £299 at the time

wyabcp;8033575

went to the sainsb in question (newbury) and they had these with a label saying '£249.95 down from £399.95'
I went to buy one and they said they dont have any, never had any, arent any in any sainsb in the country and they dont have any stock on its way.
they wouldnt let me buy the display model either

go figure!

before anyone heads to Newbury Sainsbury's give them a call and ask them.. You'll see what i mean

(there was a nice little compaq netbook next to it £199 down from £250 though - didnt bother asking if it was actually possible to buy it though).

I've reserved one. There's availability in stores in Central Scotland. Customer service can do a stock check.

cool.. either the manager in Newbury was talking about local stores, or more likely just a bit crazy :whistling:

Well, it remains to be seen if I actually get one right enough. Then again, the manager does sound like a bit of a nutter!
