I researched this model as dabs have had it available for slightly less. A deal was posted here, and it has been coming in and out of stock on dabs.

However there is a possible problem with the graphics card. Nvidia G84 based chips appear to have a problem whereby repeated heating and cooling causes them to delaminate from the substrate. This seems to particularly affect laptops which due to a combination of their power saving features and higher operating temperatures are more likely to fail. Nvidia have set aside a large amount of money to deal with claims and HP and Dell have apparently offered free extended warranties to customers affected by the problem. Sony are not admitting to a problem. It is possible Sony are using better cooling or a different version of the chip so the problem does not exist although some Vaio users are reporting problems.

I've had this graphics card fail after 8 months in a Dell XPS laptop. … I've had this graphics card fail after 8 months in a Dell XPS laptop. The motherboard has been replaced twice now. Dell CS have said that they are aware of the issue, but refuse to tell me about any free extended warranty - they have just stated £105 + VAT for an extra 24 months' cover!

Re:Dell

This is the best link I can find having done a quick Google. If yours is one of the models listed (XPS M1330/M1530) you may have to dig further to find out what to do. The free warranty extension only covers NVidia failures.
