Best headphones ever! I had the 1000xm2 and they were excellent but a bit heavy. These are a dream. Light weight and comfortable. Not as comfortable as the Bose 35 II, but lighter and very fit over my ears better. The touch controls seem to work a little better and the usb c is much appreciated. charging time is shorter and battery lasts longer.
can these be used wired?

I'm looking for a replacement for a BeoPlay H7, would you say either of the Sony ones would be an upgrade?

Better sound? In what way? Aren't the insides pretty much identical between the two, but the 1000 has more active software to do the noise cancelling. I haven't tried the h900s but the 1000s sound very nice to me. The 700s were terrible in comparison.

Go for B&O h9i.

Other than that B&W PX7s- amazon doing a good deal on them now. These two are better in every aspect apart from noise cancelling. And of course the BOSE 35ii are the safest option.

Think the 900 are the extra bass model, so more focused on bass if that is your thing. Though you can adjust the equalizer in the app for the 1000xm3

There are two 900 models. The xb900 and the h900. The xb900s are really poor imo. They are basically 700s with the frequency range moved down. The h900s are as I described, a 1000 with less software.

Surely the point of these Sony phones IS the noise cancelling.
I don't doubt that there are better sounding phones at this price band - but without the excellent NC of the Sonys.

Much better sound stage

The h900s are much better at containing the sound within the headphones, due to different materials used in the headphone casing?

Is that what you mean?

The sound is more open and has better sound stage. Noise cancelling muffles the sound and makes it feel more distant

Some people prefer build quality, some comfort and others sound..each to their own. I have all four of these so I know. B&W best sound, b&o h9i best build and damn good sound, QC 35ii best for comfort, Sony best for noise cancelling. Take your pick, if you can’t decide..then have all four to suit your need...have a collection ...save up and get one at a time...they are all great in their own way...over all I d pick Bose qc 2 time and time again...you can keep these on and listen for hours on end. ALL the others - ears get HOT some quicker than others, and you have to take a listening break at normal room temperature or flight ..Bose..keep them in and forget they are on ..just listen to your fav music.

NC DOESN'T affect the sound of best headphones, only the worse ones

There are not better-sounding BLUETOOTH headphones; differences are minimal between this, Bose 700, B&W, QC 35 and other premium cans

That's a good site. B&Ws have better soundstage, but BT cans are closed so very difficult to achieve a great soundstage

That site puts XM3 on #2 overall on their 'best bt headphones' list, all things considered

Better than the xm3. It's apparent. Other than good bass the xm3 had poor soundstage and felt very distant. Not worth the price for sound quality

DK why you going on about this, it's clear rtings.com doesn't like the soundstage of wh900, contrary to what you were saying

Yeah I understand the soundstage are always lower on closed back but the wh900 feel more open. And I picked some up for £128 from Curry's. I originally bought the xm3 for 250 thinking they would be amazing from all the reviews but I was very disappointed with the sound

At last we agree on something. XM3 was overpriced and still is, when PX and Jabra have been selling for £160, XM3 is still overpriced (& getting old)

...whereas wh900 for £128, is really good value (hopefully will fall further along xb900, these two by not being the flagship model don't have a premium attached to their RRP)

Will certainly be getting one of these as already have top NC for flights etc

Yeah plus I would take better sound over NC any day. I had the momentum 2 but the volume was iffy on them. Almost went for the jabra but was mixed in sound quality. Happy with the Sony's at that price
I'm happy with my xm3, sound is brilliant. Then again I havent tried any of the other headphones mentioned here so can't compare to those. Only thing I can agree on is that they do get a bit uncomfortable when wearing for long periods but not an issue for me as I have experienced this with many headphones so I can live with it.
Is it just me or does anyone else like the voice alerts when pressing the buttons? lol
I was after some wireless headphones to complement my wired B&W P7s - tried the PX7 wireless first, logically, and found them to be wildly bass heavy and muddy sounding. Then I bought some of these (not usually a Sony buyer) and was blown away.
Sure, there’s a lot of bass but it’s tight and controlled. The noise cancelling is superb, and doesn’t (to my picky ears) harm the music in any way. The top end is pretty crisp (almost as good as my wired P7s).
Now I like a sharper sound with clearer midrange and this is where these cans really excel. See, the accompanying app has a superb equaliser with the capacity to store custom settings so I could shape the sound to my liking. If the B&Ws had that, then maybe it would have been a different story.
Not much else to say, they fold up nice and flat, the battery lasts forever, they’re comfy and, for once, not covered in dead cow. Result.
Got these yesterday as well as the WH-XB900N's, I must say, the default sound of these are very disappointing, quite muddy in the mids and needed equalizing for them to sound decent. Long story short, I've returned the WH-1000XM3's, XB900N's sound better, better bass and with some equalizing, the clarity is there too. Not as clear as the 1000XM3's but good enough. I also find them more comfortable.
Don’t like the colour but voted hot, the price for this gear is amazing.

I own a pair and recently flew out of the UK, made me appreciate them much more.

I don't get why the stage is so important to you. I need my headphones to have good highs and lows.

In the other hand... What's good from the best stage headphones when they don't cancel any noise from outside? Sony XM3 are the best for it.
