They don't have any reason to release it anytime soon since these are doing so well and nothing else comes close at the moment.
Bose should be the ones scrambling to launch a new model

But I found people couldn’t hear me when I was making calls and I like being able to connect quickly and conveniently to different devices so I swapped them for the Bose QC35 Mk2s. More comfy I found too and although the Sony’s have the cool touch sensitive controls, the Bose just work. Sound quality is better with the Sony’s definitely and the price is competitive

This is a major issue, every reviewer has pointed this out, do not get these if you intend on making calls, the microphones are terrible

Are these worth upgrading my Beoplay H7's for?

Yes if you have 251 squids
Worth every penny
Just a note for anyone planning to buy these, apparently the latest firmware update gimps the noise cancellation.

Kept mine on v2.0 until it is fixed (although no official word from sony so might never be fixed)

It gimps it for some peole, not all. I happen to be the first person who raised it with Sony, and on their forums .

Also, there's a way to downgrade (unofficially), which restored my set to its original noise cancelling goodness.

Don't think I could pay good money for them in that case even if it can be rolled back if it does happen

Wow that's bloody awful. For all the praise these get I'm surprised it's the first I've heard of this issue. Was thinking of buying one but not anymore.

These "Just Work" too. No problems at all.

Are these worth upgrading my Beoplay H7's for?

i have the h7 and these as well. Personally the sound quality of the H7 is preferable over the sony headphones for my taste in music (hip hop, rap and bass heavy music). The noise cancelling ability of the sony is a welcome feature in noisey environments but i find myself wishing that i brought my H7 instead. Also beware of some software issues with the Sony pair which has a negative effect on the noise cancelling.
Really
Amazing headphones. I have had the Sony wh-1000xm2, Bose qc35 and sennheiser momentum wireless in the past and these top the lot. I have also updated to latest firmware and have had no issues at all. Noise cancellation and sound is still superb. Would recommend them to anyone

Ok, thanks. I am hoping to get one from JL when they have similar offer.

Judging by the previous iterations they are on a yearly cycle, releasing around August/September. They may vary that if there is a standard/codec they wish to adopt that isn't finalised yet.

IMO the XM4's are certain to adopt BT 5 and multiple device pairing. If those are important to you.

Acoustically they are very well regarded so not sure they'll spend much time there. The ANC is also very well regarded, but they may chuck some more processing power at them, in which case we may see the best get even better

You'll probably have to pay a significant premium though. I don't think any of them have been discounted for a few months after release. For a "decent" price you're probably looking at end of year, Jan 2020 realistically. Although then the XM3's will likely drop in price so you'll have to decide which you want.

Personally (if I didn't already own the XM3's) it would only be an improvement in ANC performance that would warrant going for the XM4's.
Would you buy headphones not engineered by Dre Dre?
I’ve had a pair of these for a little while now. The noise cancellation is very good, although there is still improvements to be made. However I’ve never been wowed by the sound. Movies and podcasts are great, but for music they are very ‘warm’ and there is far too much bass. So much so that it becomes annoying after a while. If you are a teenage bass-head, like I used to be, that’s great. But I prefer my music more refined and true to the original recording these days. That said the sound quality is still good, and if you want the best noise cancelling Bluetooth cans, these are still the best in this price range.

I have a pair of XM2s. I don’t think the yearly upgrades add anything significant. As others have said, the microphone quality is abysmal.

Just to clarify, you *can* pair to multiple Bluetooth devices but you can’t connect to them simultaneously. This means you can’t hear your phone ringing when listening to another source (the ANC is that good). However, I recently re-discovered that you can toggle devices using NFC which helps when switching sources.
