Really hope Sony does well with this phone. They do always try something different. Am massively tempted, even though I would have to go through the O2 Refresh route.

Th 21:9 aspect ration is great for a lot of Netflix movies and it has the highest ppi of any smartphone with 4K OLED HDR screen

It does have lower battery than others though - 3300mah. Micro SD slot up to 1TB.

O2 have been giving £75 off S10 and P30 Pro over live chat if you ask, so that could bring the device down to £555.

For those that don't know, Refresh means you can cancel your O2 contract whenever you want if you pay off the device in full. They also unlock for you by logging into your O2 account.

Heat 🔥
I was so close to pulling the trigger on this but lack of wireless charging is a deal-breaker. Everything else about this phone is very good
If it wasn't for that battery....
This was a much better deal during pre-order with the free XM3, which is possibly all it's worth really. I'd personally spend my £600+ on something that won't lose half its value in six months.
Read some glowing reviews of this phone!

I've loved all of my Sony phones. I'll never go back to a Samsung. Heat.

I am tempted by this, but I will resist for now.
Be honest with us Mrswitch, how many handsets do you own?

I'll upvote this thread if you spill the beans lol

That's not a flagship I would consider, lol

Basically because the batter life. Only ones I would consider are P30 or P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, S10+ or Zenfone 6

And even the S10+ is below what I consider great battery life but I would be willing to make the sacrifice because it has a headphone jack

You're after the best battery life then

Pixel 2 XL not among the best though

S10+ has great battery life. If you are considering the P30 Pro with its 1080p screen, just turn down resolution on S10 to get even better.

I'm after an smartphone with a minimum of hours per screen of usage. There are around 4 or 5 flagships from this year that would meet MY minimum requirements on that particular area and the Xperia 1 isn't one of them.

Anyway, it's a hot deal (I said that on my first comment) as the price is the best we are yet to see for this phone, but it's not a good deal for me. You don't need to convince me because I know what I need and Xperia 1 isn't what I need...not even at £350

I'm not trying to convince you, just trying to set the record straight

Xperia 1 delivers 6 hours SOT, that's not bad at all, even above average

Battery size helps but it's not only factor in battery performance

I actually own this and am currently in Bournemouth, been using all day, without stamina mode, took some excellent photos and videos, and still have 14 percent battery, that's since 8am, so battery life decent. What really amazed today was that could actually hold with one hand and take video and photos without struggling like a s10 would have. The narrow width makes big difference, I was holding my 3 year old while on boat trip to Poole, so only could shoot with one hand. Other phones are just two wide like p30, so 21.9 ratio is the way forward. For all the people that complain about Sony phones, they normally don't or ever really used them, And biast opinion. Please use the phone then base your opinion instead off following like sheep someone else who is a so called expert

Good for you man, enjoy it!
If the battery life is good enough for you then no one can tell you different. It's your phone, your use and your expectations.
But if it's not good enough for me, then none should try to tell me different either

The deal is a hot one because it's well discounted a good, but I'd swear the comment section was basically to write comments about the deal and the product itself... That's why since the beginning I said it's a hot deal, but not a good one FOR ME.

Does the height of the phone cause any issues when trying to reach the rope of the screen?

Really love the smaller width and aspect ratio.
I agree with lots of comments hoping this does well.. But Sony really need to sort out their CS mess, they are horrific to deal with, and generally will ignore faults with devices, I haven't used a Sony since the Z3 compact due to the their terrible customer service.

Its shame beacuse Sony devices run so smooth too.

I always found there customers service great when I had z3 they replaced it when it's started turn off randomly, after 18 months of use. Also sent in L1 they fixed without any issues.

Rope? You mean top? Well you can swipe from anywhere from the screen to bring up, shortcut settings, and double tap for one handed mode.

No i had to send a Z3c back 4 times as they insisted it was fixed and every-time i got it back it was still dead.. they would not replace it just repair it.. they eventually did, but the interwebz is full of people with same experience, it put me off them for good.
noob question as i am still not sure when to cancel. I now have the phone and Sim (collected today). Do I pop in Sim then cancel on the O2 chat service?. Thx in advance

You'll have to call 202 to cancel. No need to activate SIM. They said I have to give 30 days notice. I could've argued it, but couldn't be bothered. It's only £26.

And yes you can do it now. Just say you were offered a better price to stay with current network and as you've paid off device, you want to keep it and cancel airtime.

Thank you. They also refused to cancel without 30 days' notice so I will also be charged one month's rental
