I had been waiting for Sony Xperia 1 to be released here in UK. At the moment the phone is for preorder on O2, CPW, EE and SkyMobile. Should be there on Vodafone soon.

The best deal seems to be on with O2 on refreshs plan. You can choose to pay the device in full for £630 and cancel the airtime. Also, can claim Sony headphones worth £329 (on Amazon they are selling at around £235). You might want to keep the airtime contract for a month to claim the headphones.

So, if you consider the cost of headphones at £235, the phone cost comes to about £400 which seems to be really good.

The sim free cost varies from £849 on O2 to £899 on CPW.

Good deal but dear or dear Sony, what on earth are they thinking sticking a 3330mAh battery into a 6.5" 4k screen panel

No amount of efficiency is going to save the battery life on this.
Yeah problem is just because its expensive and not Chinese phone people vote cold, although most Chinese phones are the same they still get hot, this isn't going to appeal to everyone but for people who want a true powerful flagship, with a professional camera controls, 4k-ultra-hd oled display and a 21.9 screen this is about right
Truth be told the problem with Sony phones isn't the phones themselves, it's the shoddy management team looking after the division.

From the mind boggling 6 month cycle they insist on which must cost a fortune in R&D (Sony Xperia 2 leaks are out already and this hasn't launched) to usually messy launches. This is the best example, phone announced at MWC along with other flagships in February and there's been absolutely no communication until retailers all of a sudden started selling it yesterday.

Clearly must be some stock/logistical problems because US launch is all the way in July. Not only is it a crucial market, as far as I can tell it's only launching in SIM free form without carrier support. I don't have the figures but I'm relatively certain that far more expensive flagship phones are sold via contract than people having to shell out $949.99/£849.

Review sites and prominent Youtubers are all very quiet on this phone which is really not helping generate the buzz for launch. Maybe review samples have been sent and everyone is on an embargo to only post after 30th, but again that's a poor decision when these guys are basically last to launch a flagship this year (apart from Note and Pixel).

I feel like they are also missing a trick in creating a fully integrated ecosystem with all their products, from Playstation to their TVs I'm sure they can create some interesting features with seamless connectivity like in IOS environment. I know there's Remote Play but haven't heard much about it frankly.

£1345? Jeez, that's steep, even with the add ons.

Don't distort reality Switch...

Xperia 1 is a beauty...a Netflix-inspired phone

Pixel 3a is the Insta-phone, so there you go

(Don't belong to either market)

I think the same, it's not me who you need to persuade...
Really glad they ditched the god awful bezels. About time! Looks really sharp device. Would primarily use It for Netflix If I ever bought one as I can't stand watching Netflix on my XR, Aspect Ratio is not great! Considering I use It for 50% of this It's a big part of why I'd look for a different phone for the future but Android OS Still turns me away from it.

Still overpriced, as per usual. Trying to compete with Samsung/apple/huawei , when they should be competing with honor/oneplus/xiaomi

I disagree, with freebie cost taken out of equation you're looking at direct competition in £400-500 market
(& without corner-cutting)

So why not just cut the price, instead of offering freebies, the freebies won't be there long (if they are fulfilled) then you're just left with an expensive Sony.

I have ordered this but still torn between this and Samsung S10 5G. But I think Samsung one is going to be super expensive (around £1100-£1200)
Really wanted this phone but I feel like Sony's not going to provide many Android updates if any

Seems like a great deal though!!

Is someone able to guide me on ordering this? Step by step? or do I have to be an o2 customer? As I don't see the refresh plan, just the monthly plan

I think many companies offer freebies including Samsung and Huawei. Don't know why you find Sony doing it out of line. I can't find any phone with this spec for this price. If you know please enlighten.

Yep, that'd be in ideal world, reality is sometimes more complicated (wish it wasn't)

However on this occasion, XM3 cans happen to be much in demand, a really valuable freebie (not cheap Chromebook, but best NC headphones)

I suggest prospective buyers not to open seal until you grab freebie, to avoid possible disappointment (not that I think promotion won't be honoured, but just in case)

You aren't listening. This phone is pitched at £799 sim free, I voted hot on your deal, as this is a very good deal, once this ends, then the phone will be overpriced, have I enlightened you now?

Probably. Sony can't price its phones as market leaders because they haven't been as good (being very good though, and great value 6 months after launch)

So I agree basically, Sony should come from behind like Huawei did, offering more for less - for example, a 4K OLED screen/cinematic aspect ratio nobody else is offering...

... but for less money SIM-free, otherwise they'll find it hard to break into exclusive premium club. I think they saw it, and so did O2, and that's reason why this deal is on the market. It's kind of nearly SIM-free as you can cancel airtime and keep freebie & handset, technically (I wouldn't try it as there's risk involved and can affect credit rating)

To make it thin and slim the battery would have to about this size. But have been using xz2 premium and battery lasts the whole day with about 20 percent left

I don't think there would be any effect in credit rating. Once you pay the device price in full the airtime is monthly rolling. I think should be able to cancel at anytime without any issue.
