Whilst it fails in comparison to the new Moto G, for the price it is an attractive proposition.

Add the fact that no topup is needed, plus you get a free £20 Amazon voucher thrown in, it is hard to beat at this £69.99 like price point. Unlocks currently cost £4 on ebay.
O2 claim their normal price is £139.99.

EDIT:

Please note that there are quite a few phones with the £20 Amazon Voucher offer on O2. Might want to check it out. I like the idea of XA1 myself.

Sony say you need to purchase this phone on a tariff. That might mean you have to use the supplied Sim thus making the price £10 more.

All O2 Sony E5 unlock sellers, or do you have one seller specifically in mind?

£4 is a touch expensive. I paid 99p for my last O2 unlock.

I hope the battery has better life than my xperia xa which is woeful , that model was also claimed by Sony as 2 days battery life !! false advertising ..also waiting on the nougat 7.0 update which was promised in the first quarter of the year !! contacted Sony but it appears they don't have any customer service!

If you want good battery life, it seems the rule of thumb right now is to stay away from Sony.
Anyone know if the battery can be yanked out with ease? Thxs. (one of the reasons I wont touch an ap*le phone)

How to buy? Do I need to select 10quid top up ?
In store or just online?
You are indeed a Lady, LadyEleanor. Well done on the £20 Amazon Voucher find. I am quite tempted on the XA1.
How do I unlock this?
I too bought the Sony Xperia advertised on Hotukdeals earlier this year.
To be fair, I read all the comments about the poor performing battery which I took on board. I am what you would describe as a very low user (I'm old for a start) but I can't re-iterate just how poor the battery in my Xperia is. It goes flat overnight and without doubt needs a full charge each morning to allow for my low usage. The only app extra I have downloaded was a pedometer and I can't see this making that much difference as it is only using the battery when out walking. I don't actually carry it around with me when I am at home.
So, unless this has a better battery, my advice is too give it a miss. The phone this Sony replaced was an old Blade A430 and the battery in there lasts 5 times longer.

So, please do check the battery out on this Sony offer, otherwise, you may be disappointed with your purchase.

I disagree. I have been using Xperia Z3C for 2 years and its battery easily lasts a day. What model did u buy? Or your phone was faulty. You can check which app drain the battery in the setting. Btw, 2 days battery on their ad means when you use the stamina mode.

That app will run in the background all the time regardless of your walking or not.

Uninstall the app & reboot ... use the phone a few days then you'll get a battery baseline.
720p, 1.5gb ram, mediatek cpu. Not very functional.
2 tin cans and a piece of string is cheaper still...

I don't think Sony is going to release an update for this phone. This is going to be stuck on Android 6.

Search hukd for "xiaomi redmi note 4" (global version), unbeatable value for about £115. I switched from s7 edge week ago, superslow delivery(to avoid customs) took 9 days(!). I'm happiest phone owner in the world: battery lasts twice longer, phone is nice and stable, little extra is ir blaster for remote control apps. But I knew where I'm coming to, as I had 6.4" xiaomi mi max before s7. Only downside is little noise at low light conditions photo, but camera is ok otherwise...
How does it compare to the Galaxy S4 which I want to replace.
Had this phone for 2 weeks, sold it, it lags at basic tasks, mediatek cpu is big downside here. I was happy owner of xperia z2 in past btw, this phone performed worse than old z2 in fact.
Any better than a Smart Ultra 6; my g/f wants a smaller phone? Assuming we can sell the SU6 for about £60 it's an almost no cost swap?

By the Video seems very easy and replacement about £8... youtube.com/wat…RRE
alcatel pixi can be picked up cheaper and would be a smarter buy than any sony phone... mostly because both are rubbish but alcatel at least sell it as cheap s**t.

The model is the Xperia XA, the same model that 'Coldo' refers to above. Is it possible that the Z3C and the XA have different batteries? I have limited technology knowledge, and Idealyou has suggested un-installing the pedometer and rebooting but honestly, it was hopeless from the word go. However, hindsight is a wonderful thing and there were loads of posts on the downsides of the battery. I really thought Sony were better than this.
Terrible handests sony make.
I own an xa and its horrible.
LG and Samsung are the best

I used the XA for a few weeks(before moving onto my ZUK Z2) ... I probably charged it once every 2 to 3 days. I'm a light user. Mostly texting and moderate web browsing and YouTube. I had ZERO social media apps on it. I had my dash cam app on it which used to pull stuff off the camera. I still use it now for the dash cam because of the micro SD card.
1.5 GB of RAM - that is better than 1 GB, but still not the current standard of 2 GB. There are already apps that will not work, and those are only going to get more in numbers. So while it is a good price, the phone may have a limited useful life.

Any of the Xiaomi ones with the 4000mAh+ batteries IMHO.

Using a Redmi 3S and it's never run out on a day no matter what I do. My previous phone (Samsung S4 Mini) would require 2 extra batteries swapped over in a similar 'surfing and using it all day' scenario.

Camera is mediocre mind you (sound broken when recording video) but it's all about the battery life, and I smiled a while ago when, on a day out, my 2 friends had to find a pub with a spare plug socket so that they could recharge their iPhones etc but mine was still on over 50%. Suckers haha!

Did you realize that this phone only has 1.5GB RAM. How could could it copes with the nougat 7.0 along with other essential applications such as Google map, WhatsApp, Gmail, yahoo mail ???

If you need that OS simply avoid buying this phone and look for a better specs wight more RAM..

These are some of the least demanding apps going. They work fine on a 512mb iPhone 4s. Comical.

Im sorry im not a power user but others have said that they are happy with the battery life and the 2gb Ram keeps it speed, they have no stock local to me atm so cant personally test. My SU6 has been great but too big for me so looking to stick with the brand.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Do not buy this phone. I had it and it was the phone from hell. I sent it in 4 times for repair and the problem with the phone restarting constantly did not go away. I got fed up and sold it to game for £60. I bought the Samsung Galaxy J3 2016 for £100 and haven't looked back since. Best phone I have ever used. The Sony was nice to look at, until I used it one day without a case and it got wrecked, the plastic backing and sides were absolutely crap at protecting a 5" phone. The battery life wasn't that great either, would run out easily in a day of light use. If you're going to buy this phone, please DON'T. YOU'LL SAVE A LOT OF HASSLE
