Xperia M2 with same hardware configuration as Moto G but better camera (8MP with 1080p rec), 4G, sd card slot and bigger screen. Additional a far greater stylish look than Moto G. Disadvantage: low ppi i.e. 229 ppi and low screen resolution. However Best Deal considering the fact that it has built quality of Sony. Please comment if you find a cheap unlock for this phone. Thanks

Major Features:
Quad Core Processor
4G LTE
4.8 inch screen

540 x 960 pixels, 4.8 inches (~229 ppi pixel density).

More pixels doesn't mean better camera automatically...

This looks like a great deal , would love to hear from someone who has a one and their experience of it .
I only just sold an experia P which was terrible , each Sony software "update" just introduced more problems .
Heat added anyway as this is a different phone
Cheers

Camera sample at GSMarena for M2 are not available. But I hope sony are good at camera department as always. Do you own Xperia M2? If so share your thoughts on camera quality.

No it doesn't. But in this case I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will be massively better.

Yupp I read about it when Moto E was launched. Its gonna be tough competition.. And the Choice between Moto G 4G and Xperia M2 depends on user.

If a user prefers LOOKS Xperia M2 is the option

If a user prefers better DISPLAY Moto G 4G is better option

Good find, looking for a spare phone.

I suspect your definition of massively might differ from many others tbh.

Great price but I think now I've had the MotoG for a while I'd have trouble with bloated skinned versions of Android which I assume Sony do like most others?

Thank you that you brought that point. I had used Xperia X10 for first android xperience. Then I moved to phones with stock android feel. I didn't like them so I moved back to Sony Xperia J because according to me, stock android phone lacked luxurious and premium feel. Yes I noticed that there were few bloatware but you can disable them from Settings > Apps. The TimeScape UI will use little more memory than stock one but 1 GB RAM is sufficient enough to overcome the memory problem.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will be better.

Happy now?

540x960 resolution and 229 ppi on a 4.8" screen will look awful.

From what I can gather from a little googling;

Plus;
MicroSD card slot
Decent Battery Life
Consistent with Sony's recent design language
Proven capable internals
Notification Light + 2-stage Shutter Key (rare features on modern phones, unfortunately)
4G

Minus;
Poor screen (resolution, colour accuracy, contrast, brightness and viewing angles... basically a pretty poor display)
Camera (Over-sharpens, samples look about on par with the Moto G - possibly could be improved with the Google Camera app?)
Bad call quality
Low sound output (mono loudspeaker is decent volume but poorly placed, headphone output is woefully underpowered (a common issue with sony's phones since the Z))

Hot, because for what it is, it's not bad - but in a post Moto-G world, the mid-low end of the market really needs to up the Ante.

Banned

Seems to fail at the basics according to this review

phonearena.com/rev…702

Poor call quality, camera and reflective display glass.

sony cameras of late have a tendency to over process the image and make it look washed out

Think I'll stick with my Xperia P thanks
It has the brightest display ever and a great camera to boot

Someone at sony needs firing for choosing that screen. If it had same res as the moto this could have been a cracking phone. Real shame.

I truly understand.. The 326 ppi with 720p display by Moto G has screwed all mid-rangers. I feel like Moto G has made all mid-ranger impotent LOL...

sony are being cheapskates for using that kind of display

Awful? Hardly. Just adequate, maybe.
Only a few years ago that would have been a standard display resolution.

But a few years ago (okay maybe mome than a few) CRT TV's were the standard, but that doesn't mean they are good. We look back at them now and realise just how poor they were, the same applies to what is now considered ancient obsolete mobile tech.

OK then get me a 4.8 inch 4g phone that can record at 1080p for £100.
An impossible task isn't it?

if your comment is just wrong wet post it.

Actually for sd content, which a lot of people still use even now, a good old crt is better than most lcds that replaced them. Sound was always better too as you can fit better speakers in a 2ft deep tv than a 2" one.

Good old marketing for you.

So, going your logic, the only difference between CRT and hd TV's is marketing?

Think you need to pop down to specsavers mate.

What are you on about?! Did you read the SD bit? In fact did you read what i wrote at all? Unless you're serious that SD content looks and sounds better on something like a tinny sounding toshiba 32" lcd upscaling and adding artifacts -even worse if its pretending to be 200hz+ to a 32" native CRT with nice big speakers inside?

I suggest you go to specsavers, and perhaps get a hearing test too.

Why do you think its overpriced? We Know Moto G 4G is arriving for £149 unlocked. This is a 8MP camera with 1080p recording and NFC which makes this phone a complete gadget in £149. Do you still think this is overpriced against Moto G 4G? If you still think it's overpriced name us a phone in top tier which isn't overpriced .. We would like to know which phone is not overpriced for you in this mid rangers.

londonguy

I think you are a bit critical to say it is over priced at £149.99, I'm not saying it is cheap cheap but nothing else has a 8MP Camera and NFC with 4G, couple that in with a "Brand name" in this bracket unless you start going down Chinese import routes which have their own issues with support from manufactures.

and in a months time there will be something better available , just because not many 4g phones around does not make this a bargain.

80% of the time i can use the cloud anyway

anyone find the dual SIM version of this anywhere

Reminds me of the Moto Razr days. Nice phone, awful VGA camera, sold like hotcakes.

And by this I mean the Moto G.
