The lte version lets you put a 4g SIM card in the tablet so you can use the tablet without wifi.

Any idea what currys/PC world refurb grade A items are like? I missed the Argos refurbished tablet z deal, so this is the next best thing, help appreciated

When people start comparing Android tablets with iPads this is the type of tablet they should be looking at, stunning product, brilliant display, fast, reasonably light, responsive & decent battery life.....

Tried one of these on 4G (I know this one is wifi only) and it was outstanding

Take most other tablets near the bathroom & you will have invalidated your warranty due to condensation damage

Looks like a good deal. Quick question. If you put a microSD in it, can you save iplayer programmes to that memory?

I've got €300 burning a hole in my pocket and want a tablet.... I'll be picking one up in the US where they're cheaper.

I've had my eye on this. Is it definitely worth the investment? How are the speakers? What concerns me is the Z2 tab is due out in Q2

(waterproof is a nice gimmick...not really planning to take a tablet in the bath)

I had a quick look at the Samsun Note 2014 edition.... but realised it's another $150 more

had it sent it back when first released

didn't thunk.it was worth 400

Not sure if has has he patched software for that but you can always use link2sd

I own the the 4g version
Absolute fantastic tablet
Widescreen ideal for films
Use as much as my iPad air
Easy to hold in one hand
Screen is excellent.
Heat added

New one out soon but that'll be more like £400. Hot from me

What's the speakers like? I had the lg gpad for a while and he speakers sucked so I returned it

z2 tablet was available at £399 on Sony website last time I looked

This is how to do Android tablets, not like that Samsung crap, this is way better.

Just so people know, the Z2 tablet is out in about 2 weeks for £399. The new tablet has faster processor, front facing speakers, Kit-Kat, is a bit lighter/thinner and has a slightly upgraded screen (but same resolution). It also comes with a free 3 year warranty if pre-ordered from Sony. Whether any of that is worth the extra £140 is up to you.

It was for me, so I'm awaiting delivery in a couple weeks time:)

Ok I just checked the sony.co.uk website and you are correct the 3 warranty offer runs out in April

This is the only tablet I've ever used or picked up that feels like a true rival to the full-size iPad (maybe other than a Nexus which would be akin to the iPad mini) - it's refreshingly different and very well-built with decent hardware too. Things like the stereo speakers, microSD slot and waterproofing are all nice touches.

At this price it seems like a bit of a no-brainer to me. I use the LTE version but it doesn't have a SIM in it.

Yup, just to clarify, you order from sony.co.uk, NOT sony mobile.

hmmm,

one can get a new nexus 10 for 229 form expansys.
expansys.com/goo…97/

Unless you need a sdcard slot, I am not sure that this is better for extra £30

gsmarena.com/com…084

One more nudge downward & it's mine.
:-)

This tab looks & feels good in the hand. Just a bit tad expensive right now.

Great tablet, love mine, but prices will start to fall as Sony are about to release a new version. For those that aren't keen on refurbs, might be worth holding on.

love mine too as does my 3 year old. I do use this tablet in the bath. Speakers are fine, got a cheap case of eBay but wish had spent more on that. Love the remote on this as my 3 year old hides our remotes so its handy.

Smaller footprint for the same screen size, more powerful quad-core processor, thinner, lighter, waterproof, better sound, better cameras (front AND rear), SD slot, better Bluetooth, better battery, better screen contrast ratio, FM radio, Sony Bravia engine, IR remote control. No-brainer.

Can anyone confirm what size micro card this can take, OP description states 64gb but Sony told me maximum 32gb?

Sure, it is a no brainier if you cherry-pick the specs.
You forgot to mention that the nexus has a better screen (resolution, color reproduction), slightly better sound, better battery and properly supported with updates as a nexus device. And I am not making this up, here are two proper reviews

I use this tablet everyday
It's fantastic
Ive always been an apple fan but I think they are falling behind in phones and tablets
I have the iPad air and the sony and would prefer to watch a film on the sony everytime
Fantastic tablet.

Don't confuse number of cores with quality of processor. The nexus runs A15 architecture and is very snappy. Specs wise the n10 is streets ahead unless you want a waterproof tab. I have an n10 but really want a waterproof tab so I am tempted but I think I'll wait and see what the z2 is like and if a new n10 is on the way.

I have £59 worth of nectar points so I am very tempted to cash them in and get this tablet for £200.

I was considering the N10 but it looks soo ugly. I saw a review on youtube saying the UI on the sony is slow and things crash often. Is that the case? Also what is the latest version of Android on this? Will they be releasing kitkat?

Hope this answers your question about kitkat availability: blogs.sonymobile.com/201…-4/

As for UI, one can always install different launchers if one doesn't like the Sony Xperia launcher.

Hope my two pence worth information is useful to someone...

I have had mine just over a month and it's excellent. I don't use it in anger but so far no crashes and a smooth ui

I haven't cherry-picked anything and I didn't mention the Nexus plus points (sorry, plus point, it does have a slightly higher res screen) because I was making the case for the Sony. Oh, and something I forgot - the Nexus is frickin ugly!!

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z runs an S4 Pro quad-core processor which is architecturally similar to the Cortex-A15 architecture and is newer, so having half the number of similar/older cores isn't really making a case for it. Other than a better/higher-res display I can't see how it's 'streets ahead'.

The waterproofing isn't a must-have for most, it's just a nice feature and shows Sony is thinking outside the box a little, they didn't need to develop this side of the tablet but it's almost giving a bit back to the consumer - you've spent up to £500 on a tablet, how hacked off would you be if it got wet and broke? For example, propping this up by the sink while doing the washing up or reading/browsing the web in the bath suddenly doesn't seem as far-fetched and stupid.
