Thought this was a great price for a very capable handset. The camera is the defining feature of these handsets, with a staggering 23MP sensor. Both colours are available as unlocked, however there are Three / Vodafone locked handsets available also, if that's your thing.

23MP is not at all relevant to the quality - Sony phones (and others) have proved it's not about the pixel count. Sony phone cameras have consistently under-performed.

this or the lenovo p2 hmm
"The overall galling factor of this phone is the screen though - whether it's just a case of being able to type quickly or entering text somewhere else, the screen response is just too slow and if you're a texting fiend, having a Whatsapp conversation becomes a nightmare.

"It seems like a trivial matter, but it blighted so many things within this phone that it's a really big factor in the score."

If you want to live without worrying about battery life then get the P2

Totally agree. Phone is not a patch on my previous z3c.

Excellent phone, just upgraded from a z3 compact and its much better
Great screen, good battery life, very quick and running nougat 7.0
Better benchmarks than a xperia Z5, Lenovo P2, Galaxy A5 2017 and similar to LG G5 SE to name but a few
If you came from a z3c get the X Compact.

Bright screen, better battery life, USB c and epic camera with laser focus. I tried this model as well but not as well specced as the compact version

If you came from a Z3c, the consensus is to get a Z5c. The X Compact had too many odd compromises and was pretty mid-range whereas the Z5c was always top-end, is still decent to this day and has waterproofing.

That does seem to be an option and I had a Z5C but just didnt like the style.

For me the reasons for moving to X Compact over the Z5C were:

Brighter screen
USB C
Much better camera owing to the laser focus - genuinely much better and the reason I moved from the Z3C which I still love
More RAM - Whilst the processor is lesser, this is more than made up by the extra ram imo
It also is waterproof - Sony list the device as waterproof in Japan but not europe - check the youtube videos for it's dunk in water

The only thing that I would improve is the shape/size of it, its taller and very slightly thicker that the z3/5C.

Snapdragon 650.... ugh!
I love the design and usability of Xperia phones but, be warned, their GPS accuracy is rubbish. It is so bad that when I go trekking, I still use my old moto g just for tracking purpose as it has much better GPS accuracy.

Still, I'd buy a Sony phone any time over a Sam-chong.

I only swapped from the Z3c to the Z5c as it was my backup phone and the exposed charging socket on the Z5c is a massive bonus as the flaps always failed on the Z3c and previous.

The 810 in the Z5c is definitely faster than the 650 but I guess not such a big deal. USB-C is a bit of a 'meh' point, depends if you want it more right now. Yes, I heard the camera is good but I don't really use it that much.

But trust me, the X is not waterproof (the big X is) but if you look at the SIM tray it has no seal so it can't be. And different regions have different specs and possibly slightly different model numbers.
I was shocked how restricted and uncustomisable the operating system was when I went from LG to Sony. Apps would always terminate if you minimised them. I don't think I'll ever buy their phones again.

My X compact has a seal and also the pressure sensor in the service menu. I don't think the x compact test was on a Japanese model but instead a supposed non waterproof one.

Decent price for the phone but the X line was a step down from the Z line IMO. I've been using the Z2 for nearly three years now and it's still blazing fast and a fantastic phone. A friend of mine recently got an S8 and apart from a bigger, higher resolution screen and better camera, the speed of both phones was practically identical. Makes you wonder why people spend so much on the latest phone when one from three years ago does the exact same things and is far cheaper. There really haven't been any must have, innovative features on a phone for a long, long time. They just seem to be getting bigger and more expensive!

I also have a sony z2. had it for 2 1/2 years without any major problems. Only thing is I think the battery is starting to show its age and it often doesn't make it a whole day.

I've got my eye on the honor 6x as a replacement....

Pretty average from new, by around 12pm it can easily be on 60% and lose 10% overnight..
Have this phone, & agree, battery isn't great, but I much prefer it over my work iPhone 7
more mega pixels doesnt mean better..

Not sure where you got your information from but as to not confuse buyers on hukd, this does not have better benchmarks than a sony xperia z5, my z5 scores approx antutu 95000~98000 (when running cool) and from the videos i have seen this scores around 75000~. From reviews though it may outperform the z5 on certain tasks however the whole benchmarks tell a different story and the z5 is ahead, that said this is still reasonable for the price despite the lack of waterproof and is still reasonably newish.

Check this = forum.xda-developers.com/xpe…ge4

Normally websites measure performance off the block and after unwrapping the phone. After the 7.0 update it has settled and scores as high as 97000 after leaving it inactive for a while. The snapdragon 810 is a beast and coupled with the dual cooling pipe the z5 really flies. Even the snapdragon 810 htc one m9 scores over 100k after the nougat/marshmallow update.

The 810 is a horrible SoC and you'd be mad to buy a phone with it now. Same for the 808.
my gflex 2 has the 810 and its great it was rushed now they got it to work great on marshmallow
Got the X and it's quite a good phone - contract is coming up - is it worth getting the XZ?

Not sure on your basis, most phones with snapdragon 810 overheating problems were fixed with updates, especially the z5 which has the dual cooling pipe. dont believe everything you read, the new phones also have some overheating problems. Can relate to your snapdragon 808 concerns however that was down to the lg g4 and the bootloop problem, the performance was actually really smooth, snapdragon 810 has got everything you need. Once i get hold of a pc i will upload my scores from antutu.

Specs mean nothing - it's the actual pictures that count and I'd not expect consistent results if I were you- you can get good ones but you'll get a lot of duffs too as Sony camera software just isn't that good and hasn't been from way back, at least as long ago as the Z1. Other manufacturers get better results from Sony hardware than Sony do.
Out of all the comments on this thread, I know I will be the poster with the least amount of technology experience but I have the 16gb version of this phone and trust me the battery is the pits. I am a senior citizen so no gaming etc., for me, its only the odd text, whatsapp or phone call I make and it seems like every time I go to use it, the battery needs charging and I wish the sound was louder. Camera is really good though,
how has this got hot?! I'm surprised anyone would want to buy a phone that's been "dropped again", let alone dropped once.
