I have returned mine as it would not stop crashing. (Google it and you will find that this is a VERY common fault )

The phone does an over-the-air upgrade from android 7.0 to 7.1 and fix the crashing, you are told to install the Sony Companion software that downgrades it back to 7.0!

The problem is that this phone has dreadfully buggy sony software that has not been tested. I don't appreciate it when manufacturers sell products that are CLEARLY faulty & expect their paying customers to beta-test their software. If you google this phone there are heaps of pages hits 'Why does my Xperia XA1 ultra keep freezing'?

This product is not of merchantable quality or fit for purpose. This handset has wasted 2weeks of my time with no resolution. I will continue to warn anyone who'll listen, to avoid buying a Sony Xperia.

Yup, I agree. Bought one as a stop-gap replacement but still using it 6 months later and had no problems whatsoever. Hot!

Voted this deal hot but the blurb is a little ridiculous.

"Borderless design"?! So they reduced the bezel from the sides and added it to the top and bottom with interest!

XA2 and XA2 Ultra are on their way with SD630 in tow. They're getting rid of dead wood here. Sony haven't really done anything with their design either. You'd think they don't even have a design team the way they keep pumping out the same crap over and over again.

So comparable to Apple then lol

Honestly, it's Android so if you don't like the software, just flash it and stick a different (stable) ROM on it. Problem solved

What on Earth are you talking about? I never mentioned anything about the software or Apple products. You really need to read carefully before you respond so confidently and make yourself look like an idiot in the process.

Its a real shame that people just put one of their experiences which skews others into not buying a product which is otherwise an excellent product with millions of other users who never have a problem.

Those fools who like this comment should remember that similar problems can be found for any phone in the market including premium and flag ships, so no point crying about one experience.

Sony customer support has been excellent to me and with the 2 year warranty they provide, they are just amazing. Had a problem with an Apple phone once and because it was out of warranty, those buggers charged me £!50 for a repair. Apple would never budge after their 1 year warranty is over.
Always remember that what you are buying is an electronic device manufactured probably in a same factory in china and just labelled differently.

HOT for an excellent product with its own limitations but obviously if you want a perfect product, you cant get that in this world even for 1000 bucks.

So just to confirm, you've only had one of these handsets? Or did you try a second? There will be millions of these on the market. I'd just like to understand what your one experience represents in terms of "the product [not being of] merchantable quality or fit for purpose."
Husband has one and the camera is dire. Don’t be fooled by the marketing jargon. It’s one of their cheap-as-chips budget 13mp units. Low light photos? Don’t even bother.

All I get from O2 and Sony is, have I tried rebooting, and have you tried installing Xperia Companion. I spent hours and hours installing apps, and after I downloaded Xperia Companion and installing it on my PC, it DOWNGRADED the phone from Android 7.1 to Android 7.1This worked for a day or so, and than started crashing, and then it started hanging during calls.

Without ANY apps running (that I am aware of)
Sometimes it would drop the call half way, and on a couple of occasions is refused to end the call until the phone was reset.
What galls me is that I bought this phone for £250, as backup to the handset (Nexus 6p - a great phone) that O2 said was under warranty, and wasn't. Wasting weeks going backwards and forwards from store to repair centre, back to me, Luckily I have phone insurance, so now I am STILL without my original phone (away for repair a 2nd time) and piece of just Sony XA1 Ultra (now obsolete) has been returned for a refund.

If you google the sony xperia XA1 Ultra 'faults' or 'freezing' or 'rebooting' you get loads of hits.

Sony's ONLY solution is install Xperia Companion and try using the repair tool.

It takes an hour, and I have done this 3-4 times.

Honestly you should have just sent your phone for repair and got it sorted rather than running here and there.

If you had problems with someone in CC, should have just emailed them or contacted someone else and got it sorted.

Absolutely no point crying out here and spoiling the OP post just citing and ranting about one experience.

And people who expect a excellent performance phone with awesome low light capable camera for £150, you really need to get your expectations right coz even phones which cost upwards of £600 struggle to do that. For the price you get an excellent performer with a decent camera that works great in daylight and struggles in night time just like all phones in this price range.

That escalated quickly...

I was referring to your comment about Sony churning out the same crap year on year but guess you didn't pick up on that.

As for making myself look like an idiot, I can't see how I would have unless of course I've baffled everyone with the mere mention of putting a different ROM on a phone. The comment wasn't specifically at you but, again, I guess you didn't get that.
There is a massive known issue with WiFi and Bluetooth on this phone. In brief if you leave Bluetooth switched on, within about 10 mins your WiFi will start dropping.

Disable Bluetooth and no issues at all.

It’s driven my g/f mad and Sony’s ‘fix’ is to ignore it and press on with development of the XA2 range.

Shame as otherwise on paper it was a decent upgrade from her Smart Ultra 6.

Link here where you can see Sony’s lack of action after months

if if anyone knows any other proper fix I’d love to know

Yeah I'm sure it had nothing to do with you being one of these sensitive halfwits trying to turn everything into an Android vs Apple debate. This is about Sony. The device in question. The device in the deal.

It "wasn't specifically at you"? Yet was directed to me in response to my comment. Makes sense, genius.
