Fantastic phone but keep it off Oreo, that saw the end of mine. XZ1 runs substantially better but also twice the price usually, it’s the difference between the SD820 and 835 that makes it I think

This is an often overlooked but very good former flagship handset - one of best non-AMOLED displays out there, decent camera, waterproof and non-bloaty software.

The XZ1 on music magpie can be had for £256 here if anyone is interested in that.

Mine runs significantly better on Oreo and was very sluggish on 7.1 due to the very common RAM management issues.

Still gets monthly updates, fantastic phone but slightly disappointing battery compared to older Z series phones. Has a few features oddly missing from the XZ1 such as double tap to wake, although I probably would opt for the XZ1 new for ~£300 which regularly pops up on Amazon as its got a better battery life, better camera and is lighter (my girlfriend has one and the weight difference is remarkable given the phones are visually almost identical)

I got severe lag on Oreo, like 2-3 seconds to wake or open the keyboard at times without anything running. XZ1 is the obvious choice if you can: full metal unibody, better/faster camera, 64GB onboard and battery is back to whys it should be for a Sony. I don’t care about bezels, with this annoying trend to remove them, I quite like something to hold onto.

I have an XZ2 but not that impressed all round, it’s faster for sure but no headphone jack and it feels fat because of the shape. It also looks like most other phones (at a distance, an LG G6 perhaps) whereas the XZ and XZ1 were uniquely Sony.

Double tap to wake is pointless

Double tap to wake is pointless

Use it as my primary way of waking my phone when it's on a table. My smartwatch keeps it unlocked when tethered and I just tap the screen to wake it. Just because you have no use for it doesn't mean others don't.

Right, despite double tap to wake drains the battery more
Wasn't the 820 the SoC with overheating and throttling issues?

Yup, the one and only, I had a oneplus 3 but never experienced such problems personally.

X Compact for 92.79 on Vodafone. I'm still using one of these and think it's pretty good, struggle to find much better under 100quid

Loud enough for me, though there's a Software glitch that means sometimes (3 times in 12 months for me) it goes ridiculously quiet and you have to fiddle with the volume control and it'll sort out, not noticed a pattern but only happened in YouTube.

For me turning it all the way up and then into silent and back up sorts it. Though your issue could be caused by something different.
